  • Patent number: 4753415
Abstract: A mold comprises a pair of openable and closeable mold halves separable along a parting line. By this invention, each mold half defines a recessed outer surface portion which communicates with the recessed portion of the other mold half in the closed position. Each mold half defines a bridge portion which extends over its recessed portion and is positioned adjacent to the parting line. Thus, a lifting hook may pass into the recess defined by the outer surface portion to engage the bridge portion of a separate mold half, or to engage both bridge portions of both mold halves in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4718565
Abstract: The invention relates to a plastic jug or flask, in particular a plastic jacket of an insulating jug or flask that is produced by injection moulding in a multipart injection mould having axial separation joints, and has on the jacket surface a relief ornament which exhibits substantially vertical and spiral projections defining between them resilient jacet surface strips. The problem underlying the invention is to design the jug or flask so that it can be produced in a two-part injection mould. This problem is solved in that the jacket surface strips (14) make, in the region of the single separating joint of a two-part injection mould, exterior angles with the median axial plane (E) of the insulating jug (1) or of the plastic jacket (2) equal to or slightly greater than 90.degree..

Abstract: Apparatus for reducing the waste area in a mold for an article molded from a heat-fusing material by a powdered vinyl process, has a mold box disposed adjacent the backside of a mold surface for controlling the temperature over respective first and second areas of the mold surface. The waste area elimination is accomplished by isolating and insulating the section of the mold defining the waste area. A kerf is cut into the mold around the waste area to isolate the area. The kerf is filled with castable silicone to insulate the waste area from the heated segments of the mold. To obtain the coating, the mold is filled with powdered vinyl and the excess material is removed from the mold by dumping the plastisol from the mold into a return tank.

  • Patent number: 4422986
Abstract: The injection molding of brushes, particularly miniature brushes such as for the application of cosmetics, is carried out in a mold in which each of the cavities defining the bristles is defined by a plain surface of one mold piece and a grooved surface of another mold piece. The mold pieces are clamped together and a brush is formed by injection molding. An ejector rod facilitates removal of the molded brush from the mold, thus making it unnecessary to separate the mold pieces to remove the molded brush. However, the mold pieces may be unclamped and separated to allow the mold to be cleaned of foreign matter or broken bristles.

  • Patent number: 4407766
Abstract: Truncated contact lenses are produced in a direct casting operation using a mold assembly of a male mold member and a female mold member, both of which have molding surfaces and only one of which is provided with an inwardly flexible continuous rim portion. When vulcanizable or polymerizable constituents are placed in the mold, the two mold members are brought together, the flexible rim is flexed inwardly and the finished lens of the desired shape is obtained. The flexible rim is composed of a circular portion having two ends and a straight line connecting the two ends. This defines a chord and provides the finished lens with the truncation desired.Preferably the lens also has a toric surface and prism ballast to assist in positional stability of the lens on the eye of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 4406439
Abstract: A poured concrete forming system for spa pools, and the like, comprises a form having two collapsible form members each having a closed perimeter. The lower form is shaped to fit within the perimeter of the upper form, and is positioned directly thereunder. A reinforcing grid is mounted within the upper form to securely retain the upper form panels in the preselected configuration, and also suspendingly supports the lower form. The assembled forms are set into a reservoir, such as a hole in the ground, and concrete may be poured about the form to create a monolithic spa pool construction.

  • Patent number: 4390335
Abstract: A die, punch and core rod assembly for a powder compacting press wherein the core rod or rods remain stationary while the punch or punches are reciprocable relative to the die. The invention provides individual longitudinal position adjustment for the core rods by fitting the end of the core rods in a threaded member such as a set screw threading in a bore in the core rod support plate. Alternatively, the invention provides for position adjustment of the core rod support plate by supporting the support plate below the die plate by spacer sleeves having a threaded peripheral portion threading in a bore in the core rod support plate. By combining an adjustable core rod support plate with individually adjustable core rods, the core rods can be adjusted longitudinally relative to each other, and in unison by way of the position adjustment provided for their support plate.

  • Patent number: 4387066
Abstract: What is disclosed is a method for making a foamed resin sheet from a body of hot foamable synthetic resin containing a blowing agent, which method comprises heating said foamable body to a temperature which initiates foaming, limiting lateral expansion of the resulting foam by contact with a limiting surface while permitting free expansion of the foam thickness, then limiting further expansion of the foam thickness by contact with a limiting surface, and then cooling the foam below the foaming temperature while maintaining said limitations on foam expansion in the lateral and thickness directions by contact with said limiting surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4383672
Abstract: The invention contemplates mold tooling adapted for the molding of a variety of thermoplastic parts. The mold comprises two die elements which carry die-insert plugs, and the mutually facing surfaces of these plugs determine the shape of the part to be produced. In order to retain the insert plugs (3, 4) in the die elements (1, 2) in such manner that they can be simply and easily replaced, that surface (7, 8) of an insert plug (3, 4) which faces its supporting die element (1, 2), and that surface (5, 6) of the supporting die element (1, 2) which serves to receive the involved insert plug (3, 4), are developed as polished spherical surfaces of the same radius R.sub.N. Each interchangeable insert plug has a spherical seating surface of the same spherical radius R.sub.N.

  • Patent number: 4383819
Abstract: A bucket shaped container having a rim opening smaller than the diameter of the sidewall thereof is injection molded from thermoplastic material using a die set including a molding core which collapses to allow axial removal of the molded container from the mold. The molding core comprises a plurality of individual, wedge shaped outer core sections which collectively form a continuous molding surface and are slidably mounted on a tapered inner core to allow axial sliding movement of the outer core sections relative to the inner core. Each of the outer core sections is also mounted for radial sliding movement on a mounting plate which circumscribes the molding core and is mounted for reciprocating axial movement relative to the inner core. Reciprocation of the mounting plate produces simultaneous axial and radial movement of the outer core sections throughout their entire lengths between an expanded molding position and a collapsed container releasing position.
