Abstract: A replaceable mold cavity for use in the production of golf balls is disclosed herein. The mold cavity has a plastic insert with an inverse dimple pattern thereon that is formed from a plastic molding material, and a support cup in which the plastic insert is placed for the golf ball molding operation. The plastic insert may have a metal layer thereon that has an identical inverse dimple pattern. The entire replaceable mold cavity may also be composed of a plastic material. The use of plastic molding materials to form the plastic insert, or the entire mold cavity, allows for rapid production of golf balls having different dimple patterns which allows for expedited testing and introduction of new golf balls.

Abstract: A paint film laminate is co-molded over a desired plastic substrate to produce an automobile bumper member, chin spoiler or rocker panel part. Along a desired surface of the part, such as, for example, a border between a part surface having one segment covered by paint film and a second segment comprising the exposed substrate, the edge of the paint film is embedded in the plastic substrate along a surface discontinuity such as a recess or ridge so that an aesthetically pleasing sight edge having a desired contour exists along this surface portion. The sight edge is formed during the co-molding process via the provision of an incline or ramp along a desired mold cavity surface. When the co-molded part is installed in its intended application, the paint film edge is substantially hidden from view by the surface discontinuity.

Abstract: A graphic image is applied to a candle by depositing paper having a preprinted image atop a pool of molten wax for a few moments so that air is driven from the paper. The air-free paper is then positioned inside a candle mold and molten wax is poured into the mold. When the wax has cooled and the candle is removed from the mold, the paper is air bubble-free and is therefor transparent and not visible. The image is as clear as if it had been printed onto the candle. In a second embodiment, the image-bearing paper, after having been deposited atop a pool of molten wax for a few moments, is rolled into a cylindrical shape and placed concentrically into a candle mold having an interior diameter greater than the external diameter of the cylinder. Molten wax is then poured into the mold and the candle is removed when the wax has cooled.

Then the decoration sheet is heated and softened by a curved hot platen, and thereafter it is drawn through suction ports of the female die to bring the sheet into close fit to the inner periphery of the molding cavity. The deformation amount of the decoration sheet heated and softened is decreased in premolding the sheet into the molding cavity surface of the female die. Abstract: Method of lining a pipe. An outer pipe of ferrous metal is lined with a lining pipe of crosslinked polyethylene which is initially provided as a precursor lining pipe. The precursor lining pipe is initially made of cross-linked polyethylene with an external diameter equal to the internal diameter of the outer pipe. The initial pipe is then drawn through a die to form a pipe with a smaller diameter. The material of the pipe is memory material so that when it is melted it automatically expands to the original size. The precursor pipe is inserted into the outer pipe and melted by drawing a burner through it. The burner burns fuel gas supplied with combustion air through a hose by which the burner is towed. Hot products of combustion melt the polyethylene causing the precursor lining to expand automatically into the lining pipe. This is supported by gas pressure of a desired value inside the lining pipe until the polyethylene solidifies on cooling.

Abstract: In the method, after the pattern-bearing film is fed to the female mold, the distal end of the film is fixed under a lower portion of the female mold, and at the same time the film is retreated by a force from the film supply portion. Thus, this tightens up the film so that the slacks or wrinkles cannot be formed on the film. Therefore, the film can be fortunately spread around the parting surface of the female mold. In the apparatus, the film suppressing frame is pressed to the female mold through the sliding rod arranged in the female mold, in such a manner that the female mold embraces the frame. Thus, the pressing of the frame is performed by a simple structure, and the film is accurately positioned to the internal surface of the female mold. Also, the film suppressing frame is constituted to advance from and retreat to the female mold. Thus, this causes a space between the both molds and an outside standby position to be useless. A space around the apparatus can be effectively utilized.

Preferably, the insert member is spaced from the inner walls of the tool assembly in order to permit mold material to flow and solidify in this space. The fixture assembly is removable from the interior of the molded unit through one or more access openings that are formed in the molded unit.

  • Patent number: 5902536
Abstract: The present method includes an apparatus for filling and sealing an opening in a laminate and in particular sealing the cut-out notch area of a vehicle windshield. A mold fixture includes a mold, a backing plate, a sealant inlet and a vent. The mold has resilient sealant contacting surfaces that provide a smooth surface for forming the surface of the sealant filling the opening. The mold fixture is clamped to the laminate such that selected portions of the mold overlay the opening and remaining portions of the mold overlay selected portions of the laminate immediately adjacent the opening. Sealant is injected into a cavity formed by the laminate and the mold fixture to seal the opening. The sealant is allowed to cure to achieve a desired hardness and the mold fixture is then removed from the laminate.

Abstract: A unitary or one-piece acoustical cabinet grille frame and a method for making the one-piece grille frame. In the unitary acoustical cabinet grille frame a sound-transmissible fabric is integrally bonded or fused to serrations in a slot within the shaped plastic face. In the method for manufacturing the one-piece acoustical cabinet grille frame, a sound-transmissible fabric is placed over a shaped plastic face. A heated fusion blade having the configuration of the slot is placed over the sound-transmissible fabric. The fabric is forced into contact with the plastic serrations in the slot and the plastic serrations are plasticated or melted. The sound-transmissible fabric is then fused with the plastic. Finally, the heated fusion blade is removed from the slot and the plastic is allowed to cool.

  • Patent number: 5885662
Abstract: An article including a panel-like structure constructed to be mounted in an automobile vehicle to form a part of the interior thereof, and a process for making the same. According to this process, an outer layer defining at least a portion of the exposed exterior surface of the structure is prepared by applying a water-dispersed thermoplastic polyurethane composition and a heat-activated reactive crosslinking monomer onto a mold surface and thereafter drying the composition. Next, a rapidly reacting composition is sprayed onto an inner surface of the outer layer while the outer layer is retained on the mold surface to form a polyurethane elastomer inner layer that is interfacially chemical bonded to the outer layer. The inner layer with the outer layer interfacially chemically bonded thereto is then united with the rigid substrate so that the rigid substrate serves to reinforce the outer layer.

Abstract: A method of making a toothed belt. A toothed belt is made by guiding a strip of fabric to pass through a thermosetting resin to soak it with thermosetting resin, then the soaked fabric is guided to pass through a pair of toothed rollers to form a series of toothed grooves thereon, thereafter the fabric is guided to pass around a plane roller and simultaneously rubber material is fed into the space between the outer peripheral surface of the plane roller and said fabric. Then, the fabric is wound onto a cylindrical mold having corresponding toothed grooves thereon and its two ends are glued together to loop around the cylindrical mold, then reinforcing cords and rubber sheets are covered over the fabric. Finally, the rubber material is vulcanized to form a toothed belt. Fabrics treated by the method demonstrate considerately greater flexibility or extendibility to comply with bending when under operation. Furthermore, the tooth contour of the belt will be more accurate than conventional ones.
