Introducing Material Under Pressure Into A Closed Mold Cavity (e.g., Injection Molding, Etc.) Patents (Class 264/328.1)
  • Patent number: 8899453
Abstract: A dispensing device for dispensing a liquid product from a container containing said product comprises a first chamber and a second chamber. An inlet passage comprising at least one inlet opening establishes a fluid connection between the first chamber and an interior part of a container having the dispensing device mounted thereon. An outlet passage adapted to deliver liquid product being dispensed by way of the dispensing device is fluidly connected to the second chamber. An intermediate wall divides an interior part of the dispensing device into the first chamber and the second chamber. The intermediate wall defines an edge, and the intermediate wall is arranged in such a manner that an intermediate passage between the first chamber and the second chamber is defined at said edge.

Abstract: A method of injection moulding a plastics component includes providing a first mould member with a mould cavity, which is defined by an internal surface, and a second mould member with an external surface whose shape is complementary to the shape of the mould cavity. Either the internal surface or the external surface carry an elongate formation with an elongate apex. The method includes advancing the second mould member into the mould cavity such that the apex is spaced from the opposed one of the internal surface and the external surface by a predetermined distance and the internal surface of the first mould member and the external surface of the second mould member together define a mould space. Molten polyolefin material is then injected into the mould space to substantially fill it. The predetermined distance is so dimensioned that the polyolefin material does not completely fill the space between the apex and the opposed surface and the slit is thus formed.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing defect-critical articles from a molding resin comprising at least 98% clear polymer and additives including a heat stabilizer and a UV blocker in an injection molding machine. According to the apparatus, there is provided an injection molding machine in combination with a molding resin. The injection molding machine's resin delivery assembly is made from a powder metallurgy formed into solid non-coated parts having a Chromium-Vanadium (Cr/V) blend. As the molding resin interacts with the resin delivery assembly, the resin only contacts the solid non-coated parts whereby the resin experiences less degradation and provides improved quality for the defect-critical articles. The method includes the steps of plasticizing, injecting, and cooling. During the plasticizing and injecting steps, the molding resin only contacts solid non-coated parts made from a powder metallurgy material containing a Chromium-Vanadium (Cr/V) blend thereby producing reduced defect articles.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a device and method for the treatment of, ocular hypertension, glaucoma, and increasing the amplitude of accommodation. In an illustrative embodiment, the device includes a self-expanding wire. Once the device is within the posterior chamber between the iris and anterior lens capsule, the wire expands to compress the ciliary muscle. When the device is in place the scleral spur is moved posteriorly resulting in traction on the trabecular meshwork, which causes a reduction in intraocular pressure for the treatment of patients with ocular hypertension and glaucoma. In addition, the compression of the ciliary muscle increases the force of contraction of the ciliary muscle, which increases the amplitude of accommodation in patients with deficient accommodative amplitude and presbyopia.

Abstract: This invention relates to a process of making a fiber-reinforced composite. Glass fibers may be provided. These glass fibers may be treated with a sizing composition that has a coupling-activator compound with the formula: S—X-(A)n, where S represents a silicon-containing coupling moiety capable of bonding to the surface of glass fibers, X represents a linking moiety, and (A)n represents one or more polymerization activator moieties. The treated glass fibers may be combined with a resin to make a fiber-resin mixture. The resin may have a monomer, a catalyst, and an activator compound capable of initiating a polymerization of the monomer. The monomer may be a lactam or lactone having 3-12 carbon atoms in the main ring. The fiber-resin mixture may then be cured so that the monomer polymerizes to form a thermoplastic polymer matrix of the fiber-reinforced composite. The thermoplastic polymer matrix may be formed by in situ polymerization initiated from both the surface of the glass fibers and the resin.

The plastic barrier screen is first formed from injection molding a part with multiple square or hexagonal holes ½ to ? opening size in a uniform pattern, including longitudinal dividers between such holes of 2 to 6 times the final desired screen barrier cross sectional area of the longitudinals respectively. The molded part is then stretched along the longitudinal elements of the mold to molecularly orient at elevated temperature to produce a larger planar dimension of 2 to 6 times the original plastic screen with high strength molecularly oriented monofilament longitudinal elements.
