  • Patent number: 5589773
Abstract: A system and method for assessing the electric and magnetic field generated by equipment under test (EUT) by maintaining the EUT in a specified, fixed tilt position, allowing the EUT to rotate while in that specified position and tilting the TEM cell through at least two angles about the EUT. Embodiments contemplate that a fixed tilt mechanism for maintaining the EUT in a fixed position relative to the tilting of the TEM cell is used. The present invention further contemplates various schemes for determining the electric and magnetic fields generated from the EUT based upon the composite electromagnetic reading from the TEM cell. These schemes, which result in improved measurements of the magnetic and electric fields, determine the angles to which the TEM is tilted.

Abstract: The invention is a device for expediting the cutting of boxes containing goods used in restocking shelves and the like. This device can either be free standing or operatively mounted on a stocking cart or dolly. In either case, a free-wheeling turntable is used to support the box being cut and a box positioner is disposed adjacent thereto to raise one edge of the box when the same is being cut. This positioner can then be lowered to allow the box to be rotated 90.degree. for the next cut, etc. thereby greatly expediting the cutting open of boxes. The box positioner for raising the box at least partially off of the turntable is mechanically activated by either a foot pedal in the free standing version or by a handle in the cart mounted version.

Abstract: An illustrative embodiment of the invention discloses a technique for disassembling a nuclear reactor fuel element without destroying the individual fuel pins and other structural components from which the element is assembled. A traveling bridge and trolley that span a water-filled spent fuel storage pool support a strongback. The strongback is under water and provides a working surface on which the spent fuel element is placed for inspection and for the manipulation that is associated with disassembly and assembly. To remove, in a non-destructive manner, the grids that hold the fuel pins in the proper relative positions within the element, bars are inserted through apertures in the grids with the aid of special tools. These bars are rotated to flex the adjacent grid walls and, in this way relax the physical engagement between protruding portions of the grid walls and the associated fuel pins.

Abstract: A transport car for transporting motor parts or complete motors along an assembly path consisting of sequential working stations. The car has a base frame supporting a signal receiver and a fixture for the motor parts or the motor. The base frame has a main section provided with at least two wheels and a support section projecting out from this main section and having a smaller width than the main section and having at least one wheel at or near its outer end. The fixture is arranged so that a motor carried by it is situated at one side of the main section on the same side as the support section.

Abstract: A workpiece support structure has a lower planar surface disposed above and parallel to an upper planar surface of a base assembly which is adapted to be supported on the forks of a fork lift truck for transporting the carrier and the workpiece. A plurality of air pockets are formed in one of the planar surfaces for receiving pressurized air from a suitable source so that the support structure floats on a cushion of air between the planar surfaces permitting substantially frictionless movement of the support structure relative to the base assembly for precision positioning of the support structure and thus the workpiece relative to the base assembly.

Abstract: A tree clamp, especially for a tree length harvester, having a compact arrangement of a movable jaw which folds partially inside of a fixed jaw and has a pivoted section to clamp the tree. The movable jaw and its pivoted section also grasp the butt end of the tree and lift it out of the teeth of the fixed jaw at the end of the processing step. The tree is then released and free to roll into a storage rack.An automatic sequence control is provided that includes a pivoted plate on the clamp which is depressed by the tree to initiate processing steps without requiring the operator's attention.

  • Patent number: 3936743
Abstract: Testing of integrated circuit components of the silicon wafer type for grading purposes is accomplished by supporting the wafer matrix on a platform type work table which is indexed in an x-y coordinate fashion, with the work table being moved vertically to a test position such that the test probes make contact with a precise predetermined position corresponding to the precise location of that portion of the integrated circuit to be tested. The work table is movable vertically with reference to a predetermined axis and rotatable with respect thereto such that the surface of the table remains perpendicular to the reference axis. The chuck assembly for moving the table includes a housing having a bore whose center forms the axis, with a chuck plate mounted for sliding movement in the bore. The end of the chuck plate is in the form of a flanged spool which receives bearing-eccentric assembly for effecting vertical movement while permitting rotation of the spool and the attached chuck plate.

  • Patent number: 3931962
Abstract: The present invention concerns a new vise intended to be mounted on bias-cutting sawing machines, i.e., on circular saw machines for miter cutting metallic sections, utilizing pivotal movement of the saw and the holding device for the work piece. The holding device is supported by a pivotal frame movable about the vertical diametral axis of the saw. The invention is characterized by the fact that it provides means for the contact surfaces or jaw caps of the work holding device always to remain parallel to the axis of the work piece, regardless of the angle of orientation of the saw with respect to the work piece, such means being designed with the saw blade always passing as close as possible to the jaws of the vise.
