  • Patent number: 7909337
Abstract: A gasket which can uniformize the facial pressure on the thickened part more securely is to be provided. A gasket comprises a pair of base plates and stacked above and underneath, in which combustion chamber holes and bolt holes are bored, a doubling plate and shim plates intervene between these base plates. On this doubling plate, a second bead, which permits plastic deformation, extends in the circumferential direction of each combustion chamber hole. As the second bead is deformed according to the magnitude of the fastening load, the gasket height lowers where the fastening load is heavy and the facial pressure on the peripheries of combustion chamber holes is uniformized after fastening.

Abstract: A gasket interposed between facing surfaces of two members to be sealed for sealing a space between the surfaces, the gasket comprising a loop-like shape jointed gasket base plate formed by being jointed an inner periphery of one loop-like shape gasket member to an outer periphery of the other loop-like shape gasket member, the two loop-like shape gasket members having different spring constant respectively; and a bead portion formed along a circumferential direction of the loop-like shape jointed gasket base plate. The one of loop-like shape gasket members faces one surface of the two members and the other loop-like shape gasket member faces the other surface of the two members by the bead portion, when the gasket is disposed between the facing surfaces of the two members.

Abstract: A metallic gasket including a base plate having a convex metal bead formed, by bending the base plate, between a combustion chamber opening and on the outer periphery portion of the base plate, and a first thickness-increased portion formed thicker than the remaining portions of the base plate to provide a difference in thickness, by which a surface pressure is made to concentrate on the first thickness-increased portion to seal a joint between a cylinder head and a cylinder block when the metallic gasket is disposed between the joint surfaces of the cylinder head and the cylinder block and fastened by clamping bolts. An elastic sealing material is fixed to the convex portion of the metal bead and filled in a concave portion on the reverse side of the base plate to form a rubber bead, and the sealing material is deformed under compression in the through-thickness direction in cooperation with the deformation of the metal bead when the gasket is fastened with clamping bolts.

Abstract: The present invention relates to flat metallic gaskets, such as, for example, cylinder head gaskets on internal combustion engines, with at least three layers, namely a mid-layer, a function layer and a layer of a compression limiter. The mid-layer is arranged between the function layer and the compression limiter. The mid-layer has at least two essentially round fixing openings, outside a sealing region. The compression limiter is beaded around the edges of the fixing openings in the region thereof, and in this way fixes the compression limiter to the mid-layer. The function layer has recesses in the region of the fixing openings of the mid-layer, in order to accommodate the beaded region of the compression limiter, without increasing the total thickness of the gasket in the region of the fixing of the compression limiter.
