  • Patent number: 5988651
Abstract: A metal gasket of the invention is used for a cylinder head gasket or a pipe connecting gasket. The gasket is basically formed of a single metal plate having a base portion extending substantially throughout an entire area to be sealed, and includes a bead protecting portion extending outwardly from the front surface and a sealing bead adjacent to the bead protecting portion. The bead protecting portion and the sealing bead are formed in the metal plate. The bead protecting portion has no substantial compressibility, but the sealing bead has a compressibility. Thus, when the metal plate is compressed, the bead protecting portion provides a surface pressure without substantial resiliency, and the sealing bead provides a surface pressure with resiliency and is protected from being completely compressed by the bead protecting portion. The gasket can be made thin.

  • Patent number: 5957463
Abstract: A metal laminate gasket of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine. The gasket is formed of first and second metal plates laminated with each other, and a metal ring. The first plate includes a base portion, a curved portion extending from the base portion to define a first opening, a flange extending from the curved portion and located under the base portion, and second openings corresponding to bolt holes of the engine. The second metal plate is situated under the base portion, and includes a third opening greater than the first opening and fourth openings situated under the second openings. The metal ring is situated between the flange and the base portion, and includes narrow portions and wide portions alternately arranged to each other. • Patent number: 5895054
Abstract: A metal gasket of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine, especially for an engine with a cylinder liner. The gasket is formed of a first metal plate having a first hole greater than a hole of the engine, an annular ring and a sealing device. The annular ring has an inner size substantially corresponding to the hole of the engine, an outer size substantially corresponding to the first hole, and a thickness greater than that of the first metal plate. The annular ring is situated inside the first hole and attached to the first metal plate. The sealing device provides a surface pressure on the first plate outside the annular ring. Even if there is a gap between the upper end of the cylinder liner and an upper surface of the cylinder block, the annular ring can seal around the hole together with the sealing device.

  • Patent number: 5895055
Abstract: A metal gasket used for an internal combustion engine is basically formed of a metal plate. The gasket includes at least two openings with a narrow intermediate area therebetween, edge portions situated around the openings, curved portions extending from the edge portions to define the openings, the curved portions situated adjacent to each other extending in the directions opposite to each other, and flange or turning portions extending from the curved portions and located over the edge portions. A stepped portion is located between the edge portions situated adjacent to each other. Therefore, when the gasket is tightened, the stepped portion is compressed to provide a surface pressure thereat to seal the narrow intermediate area.

  • Patent number: 5879011
Abstract: This metal gasket comprises a beaded base plate, an intermediate plate and a thin plate, and secures a stable long-standing sealing performance with a face-to-face pressure balance kept properly. This metal gasket is provided with full beads on the beaded base plate, stopper beads on the intermediate plate, and folded portions, which hold the edge portions of bores of the intermediate plate, and full beads, which are laminated on the stopper beads on the intermediate plate, on the thin plate. The folded portions are formed so that they are not laminated on the stopper beads when the metal gasket is in practical use, i.e., when the folded portions are in a compressed condition. The folded portions and stopper beads display a stopper function of preventing the full compression of the full beads on the beaded base plate, and a sealing function of preventing the entry of a combustion gas into the clearances defined by the full beads.

  • Patent number: 5879012
Abstract: A metal gasket of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine and is basically formed of one metal plate. The plate includes a hole, an elongated or annular recess formed on the metal plate to surround the hole and a bead formed in the elongated recess. The elongated recess extends from an outer surface of the metal plate, and the thickness of the bead is less than the thickness of the metal plate. A top portion of the bead projects outwardly beyond the outer surface of the metal plate. Thus, when the metal plate is tightened, the top portion of the bead is compressed to a level corresponding to the outer surface of the plate to protect the bead. Therefore, creep relaxation of the bead is reduced or prevented.

  • Patent number: 5863046
Abstract: A metallic cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine comprises a carrier plate sandwiched between flat cover plates, the multi-layer structure having a pattern of openings as dictated by the arrangement of engine cylinders, head mounting bolts and fluid flow passages. • Patent number: 5842702
Abstract: A metal laminate type cylinder head gasket of the invention is basically formed of first and second metal plates laminated together. The first metal plate includes a heat preventing portion for defining a first hole for a cylinder bore, a main sealing portion situated around the heat preventing portion, and a base portion. The heat preventing portion shuts off heat from the cylinder bore thereat, and the main sealing portion forms a solid portion for sealing around the first hole. The base portion extends from the main sealing portion to substantially cover the entire area of the engine. The second metal plate includes a second hole with a diameter greater than a diameter of the main sealing portion, and is situated adjacent to the base portion of the first metal plate. The second metal plate is not substantially affected by heat in the cylinder bore.

  • Patent number: 5794945
Abstract: This metal gasket comprises a bead base plate with first beads and a sub-plate stacked on the bead base plate. The sub-plate is made of a thick metal plate and formed with second and third beads and stepped portions. The second beads, the third beads and the stepped portions combine to form triple seal lines, which improve the sealing function. The sub-plate is formed with the second beads opposing the first beads of the bead base plate, with the high third beads formed inside the second beads around the holes and with the stepped portions formed outside the second beads around the holes. The third beads prevent ingress of burning gases to the first beads and also serve as a stopper to prevent the first beads from being flattened completely. The third beads therefore can add durability to the sealing function realized by the first and second beads, enhancing the sealing performance of the first and second beads and reliably preventing burning gases from escaping between the opposing surfaces.
