Abstract: Laryngeal surface electrodes are devices designed to hold a conductive surface against the vocal cords in order to pick up small electrical signals from the muscle known as electromyographic signals. Several embodiments of a laryngeal electromyography tube include a conductive electrode surface that is painted, screen printed or otherwise applied directly onto the body of an endotracheal tube, such that the final device has no raised surfaces which can injure the vocal cords. These endotracheal tube with integral laryngeal surface electrodes can be safely used placed for prolonged, continuous monitoring during surgery, after surgery and during intensive care treatment intubation without a need to remove and replace the tube at these various stages of treatment. In one embodiment, one electrode contacts the vocal cords and a second electrode contacts the tongue.

Abstract: The surface roughness of a copper sheet is adjusted to have an arithmetic mean roughness Ra of 0.5 ?m or more and 4.0 ?m or less in a direction parallel to a sliding direction upon connection, a mean projection-depression interval RSm of 0.01 mm or more and 0.3 mm or less in the direction, a skewness Rsk of less than 0, and a protrusion peak portion height Rpk of 1 ?m or less. Further, as a surface coating layer, a Sn coating layer group X observed as a plurality of parallel lines is included, and a Cu—Sn alloy coating layer is present adjacent to each side of each of Sn coating layers constituting the Sn coating layer group X. The maximum height roughness Rz is 10 ?m or less in a direction of part insertion. At the time of stamping the copper sheet, the copper sheet is surface-roughened by pressing, thereby forming depressions observed as a plurality of parallel lines in the surface of the copper sheet. The copper sheet is then plated with Cu and Sn, followed by reflowing to complete the production.

Abstract: Methods of making an energy harvesting device are described. A case and integrated piezoelectric cantilever to harvest vibration energy from an environment being sensed is produced via a print forming method injection molding method. The cantilever device consists of a piezoelectric material member, and a proof mass of high density material coupled to the piezoelectric member. The print forming method is used to build up the base and walls of the device as well as the neutral layers of the piezoelectric member. Metal layers are printed to form the electrode layers of the piezoelectric member and the electrical contact portions of the device. Passive components can also be formed as part of the layers of the device. The entire assembly can be encapsulated in plastic.

Abstract: A method connects two parts, which overlap each other only partially and have electrically conducting structures, mechanically and electrically at the same time. For purposes of electrical insulation and/or for mechanical and/or chemical protection, at least one of the conductors is extensively covered with an electrically insulating material beyond the overlapping area and including the connection surface. In order to establish the connection, the conducting parts are pressed against each other in the area of the connection surfaces of said conducting parts and in the area surrounding said connection surfaces. An adhesive is used as the electrically insulating material. The adhesive is put into a sticky state during the connection, thereby forming an electrical contact between the electrical connection surfaces and in the area surrounding said electrical connection surfaces, after which the adhesive is brought into a permanently adhering state.
