  • Patent number: 4716798
Abstract: A pair of brackets is arranged side by side on a horizontal work surface so that a front flange of each extends down against a front edge of the work surface, and a rear flange of each projects upward. A large rectangular can to be opened is placed on its side on the brackets, with its bottom in engagement with the rear flanges. Side flanges on the brackets confine opposite sides of the can between them, and the top of the can is disposed at the front of the work surface. A T-handled, oblique bladed spear-like opener is then thrust piercingly longitudinally into the can through the top wall adjacent the rim. Preferably the width of the blade equals the width of the cut which needs to be made, so that four bayonet-like thrusts will neatly sever the lid from the can as a square of metal sheet. The task can be easily performed by one person, because the brackets by themselves hold the can at a convenient location for opening.

  • Patent number: 4716886
Abstract: A disposable double-clamp device for severing an umbilical cord while maintaining the severed ends thereof in a clamp. Two clamps are held together in a side-by-side relation by a shear pin. A cutting blade is located between the abutting clamps, its forward cutting motion being impeded by said shear pin. After the device is brought into a clamped position, further pressure is exerted upon the blade, which breaks the shear pin. A wedge on the blade provides outward lateral pressure to the two clamps, thereby stretching the umbilical conduit at the end of the cut as well as provide for clamp separation. The blade's cutting edge then easily cuts and severs the umbilical cord. Further downward pressure causes the wedge to separate both clamps, with the ends of each portion of the severed cord being clamped by one of the pair of clamps.

Cutting means are also attached to the body and are moveable in the general direction of such longitudinal axis towards the fiber support surface for severing such optical fiber such that the end face of the fiber is smooth and lies in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the fiber.

Abstract: An oscillating tool, particularly a cast cutter (40) having a support housing (46) with a cutting blade (70) interconnected to the housing (46) proximate one end thereof for oscillatory rotational movement about an axis (56) is disclosed. A torsion shaft (54) is fixedly interconnected at a first end (102) to the housing (46) so as to prevent rotational oscillation at the first end of the torsion shaft (54). The torsion shaft (54) further has a free second end (100) enabling oscillatory rotational movement of the second end (100) generally about the axis (56) of the cast cutter blade (70). A hollow tubular rotor support member (58) substantially more rigid than the torsion shaft (54) is attached to the torsion shaft (54) proximate the second free end (100) of the torsion shaft (54).

  • Patent number: 4466186
Abstract: The chiseling or trimming machine serves primarily to deburr welding seams from frames welded together of profiled plastic parts, such as are used for facades, doors and windows. The machine has a bearing surface on which the workpiece to be machined is placed against a stop angle and held firmly by means of holder cylinders. Furthermore the machine has a workpiece carrier displaceable with a transport device, and the tool holder supporting the chiseling or trimming die is supported on the tool carrier such that it yields in the upward direction in response to pressure. The bench machine is embodied as a hand-operated machine such that the bearing surfaces as well as at least one handle are disposed on an upper crosspiece of the tool carrier with its transport device, and that this crosspiece is connected by means of two rods with a lower crosspiece disposed parallel to the upper bearing surface.

Abstract: An improved portable circular saw with a pair of semicircular discs having a rotary sawing cutter disposed therebetween, the semicircular discs being fixedly secured to the upper surface of a table and vertically extending along the rotary sawing cutter with a close clearance kept therefrom, whereby remarkably high noise reduction and dust collection are ensured with substantially reduced danger of or without any danger of injuring of a part of a human body. According to another aspect of the invention a dust collecting device is provided having a dust collecting hood arranged above the upper half of the rotary sawing cutter, an inner wall included in the dust collecting hood to surround the central part of the rotary sawing cutter and a bottom plate on the table. A pair of semicircular plates may be fixedly secured onto the longer sides of the inner wall vertically extend along the rotary sawing cutter in the same manner as the aforesaid semicircular discs.

Abstract: A tool for cutting and removing a nut from a threaded shank member extending beyond the nut, a particular application being to remove from the depending end portion of the shank of a faucet the nut securing the faucet to a sink. A body is formed with a pair of substantially parallel bores, one of which is threaded along its entire length for attachment to the shank. One portion of the other bore is threaded to receive a bolt, the remaining portion of the other bore is smooth walled to receive a plunger which has a chisel edge at its end nearest the nut. The bolt engages the chisel edge to drive it between an inoperative position and an operative position engaged with the nut at which point continued advancement of the bolt results in breaking and removal of the nut.
