  • Patent number: 7382067
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a linear actuator in which reliability is improved, and performance is also easily improved. The present invention provides a linear actuator including a stator, a movable element having an iron member, and being reciprocatable with respect to the stator, a permanent magnet fixed to the stator so as to be opposed to the iron member, and a coil fixed to the stator. Because both the coil and the permanent magnet are fixed to the stator, electrical current does not have to be supplied to the movable element, and the feeder lines connected to the coil will not be broken due to the movement of the movable element. In addition, the weight of the movable element will not be increased even when the weigh of the permanent magnet is increased in order to obtain high magnetic flux density for improvement in performance. Moreover, because the movable element does not include a magnet, a magnetizing operation does not have to be applied to the movable element.

  • Patent number: 7288861
Abstract: An inertial actuator for active vibration control utilizes a single cylindrical actuator module of the “voice coil” type. A moving armature assembly, including a soft iron shell with a tubular sleeve coaxially surrounding a core with two permanent magnets and corresponding pole plates, is suspended compliantly by a flexure assembly including a multiple-stack array of shaped flexure strips and a pair of end support flexure plates mounted to a base. Two magnetically charged annular air gaps at the pole plates in the moving armature traverse two corresponding annular coils wound in a tubular bobbin that extends as a heat-sinking mounting column attached to the base. This form of inertial actuator provides cost benefits along with improved performance and reliability due to the stability of the moving parts and uniformity of linear motion.

  • Patent number: 7288860
Abstract: An electrical generator includes one or more magnets that move relative to one or more conductors to generate an electrical signal in each conductor. Each magnet has ferrofluid bearings in the vicinity of its opposite ends to provide a low friction interface between the magnet and a support structure. The ferrofluid bearings establish a field expansion medium that directs at least a portion of the magnetic field so that a greater portion of the field intersects the conductors than in the absence of the medium. The magnet aspect ratio is preferably on the order of unity.

Abstract: A reciprocating motor includes: an outer stator (4) in a support frame (2); an inner stator (6) disposed at the inner circumferential surface of the outer stator (4) with a certain air gap and mounted at the outer circumferential surface of a cylinder (16); a magnet (10) disposed to be linearly movable between the outer stator (4) and the inner stator (6) driven by the winding coil (8) due to move the piston (18); and the locking unit (30, 32), installed at the lateral face of the inner stator (6) for preventing the inner stator (6) from moving in an axial direction. Therefore, the reciprocating motor can improve reliability of a motor by preventing an inner stator (6) from moving in an axial direction by vibration caused by linear movement of the magnet (10).

  • Patent number: 7279814
Abstract: A moving coil actuator that moves in a rapid back-and-forth motion is constructed with a magnet assembly that concentrates the magnetic flux in a region of limited length and with a coiled electric conductor that includes two separated regions of densely wound coil, the assembly and conductor arranged such that only one of the coil regions resides in a concentrated flux region at either end of the actuator stroke. This is achieved with either a single region of concentrated flux or two spatially separated regions of concentrated flux. In either case, the force constant, i.e., the motor force generated in each coil per unit of current through the coil, is non-linear, with a maximal force at each end of the stroke and a minimal force at the stroke mid-point. The result is an efficient use of the electric current and relatively small amounts of materials of construction, and accordingly less weight for the actuator to carry during its travel and its changes of direction.
