  • Patent number: 5760501
Abstract: A structure for a compression driver motor assembly which utilizes a pot with an integral top plate and a pole cap, thereby reducing magnetic losses and permitting manufacture of a driver structure with fewer parts and reduced weight. A more efficient process for manufacture of the motor assembly is also disclosed. The pot is manufactured with an integral top plate which is adapted for use with a large pole cap. The pole cap is affixed to the top of a permanent magnet and forms the magnetic gap with the top of the pot. The magnetic circuit of the driver thus includes a permanent magnet, a pot, a magnetic gap and the pole cap. The motor assembly is assembled in a process requiring fewer steps and less elaborate tooling than the motor assembly of the prior art.

  • Patent number: 5614778
Abstract: Compressed air is introduced into a cylinder chamber to displace a piston closely to a target position. Then, a ball screw shaft is rotated about its own axis by an electric motor to inch the piston to the target position. Upon arrival of the piston at the target position, the ball screw shaft is stopped by a brake mechanism to hold the piston accurately in the target position. The drive shaft of the electric motor extends parallel to the ball screw shaft, thus reducing the entire length of a servo cylinder apparatus. Solenoid-operated directional control valves, for supplying compressed air to the cylinder chamber and the brake mechanism are coupled integrally to a cylinder assembly, so that pipes are shortened for allowing the piston to be displaced and stopped quickly and accurately.

Abstract: An electromagnetically actuated friction welder produces orbital motion at interfaces between parts (usually of thermoplastic material) to bond the parts by fusion generated by friction. This welder can also be operated alternatively to produce reciprocating vibratory forces thereby providing flexibility as to the selection of an orbital or reciprocating mode, depending upon the joint to be welded. • Patent number: 5231336
Abstract: An electromagnetic actuator is disclosed which is especially suitable for active vibration control applications. The actuator may be either of the moving coil or moving magnet type so that a moving element undergoes reciprocal motion in response to an electrical input signal. The invention allows the force of the moving element to be linearly related to the amplitude and direction of the input current with a high degree of efficiency. In one embodiment, the moving element is decoupled from any mechanical load so as to produce reaction forces which may be used to cancel vibrational forces.

  • Patent number: 5231337
Abstract: An acoustic compressor is disclosed for generating a high pressure acoustic waveform within a chamber containing a working medium. The compressor comprises an actuator body solidly mounted to the chamber with a vibrating armature spring-mounted within. The chamber and actuator body are resiliently mounted so as to be vibratable. Owing to reaction forces, vibration of the armature causes vibration of the chamber which generates an acoustic waveform in the medium. By matching the resonant frequency of the armature to the acoustic resonant frequency of the chamber and driving the armature at that frequency, extremely high pressures within the chamber may be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5229671
Abstract: In a rotary actuator (1) with rotary slide valve (3) for controlling a throttle cross-section, the sealing of the pneumatic (16) and of the electrical part (17) is to be improved. For this purpose, the shaft (11) is supported twofold, both on this side and on the other side of the rotary slide valve (3). Both roller bearings (13, 14) are located in a one-piece housing (12). As a result, the tolerance-related width of the air gap between rotary slide valve (3) and control opening (6) is reduced, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, an isolating seal between the parts (16) and (17) is formed by the bearing (13). The rotary actuator (1) is particularly suitable as idle-speed rotary actuator for internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 5219034
Abstract: A vehicle powered by a magnetic engine, which engine includes a block fitted with multiple cylinders for receiving magnetic pistons attached to a crankshaft and electromagnets mounted in the engine head for magnetically operating the magnetic pistons by electric current reversal. A polarity timer is connected to the vehicle battery through a variable resistor which serves as an accelerator to vary the current through the respective electromagnets and operate the magnetic pistons at a desired speed. Alternating current is generated at the rear axle of the vehicle by means of an alternating current generator, which current is stepped up and rectified to direct current for charging the battery, by operation of a battery charging device.

  • Patent number: 5203172
Abstract: A hydraulic engine apparatus and method that converts pulsed electromagnetic energy into mechanical force and motion. The engine apparatus produces usable mechanical power by pumping action made possible by a reciprocating piston in a cylinder acting on a fluid that is responsive to the pulsed electromagnetic energy. The cylinder is provided with check-valved input and output ports at both ends of the cylinder, which output ports are hydraulically coupled to a hydraulic motor for delivering mechanical power from the hydraulic motor's output drive shaft. The piston has embedded permanent magnets that coact with the pulsating electromagnets to produce the reciprocating action. The piston permanent magnet has prodruding ends which are received within central bore portions of core members of the electromagnets for producing increased magnetic pull.

  • Patent number: 5180939
Abstract: An improved device for generating an alternating electrical current is disclosed, employing a stationary electrical exciter coil and inductive ouptut coil, and a pair of reciprocating elements to selectively alternate between a plurality of magnetic flux field paths. The reciprocating elements each have relatively staggered magnetically permeable portions for alternatingly establishing one of the magnetic flux field paths. The alternating flux field paths, each passing through the center axis of the inductive output coil, cause the reversal of the direction of magnetic flux flow through the center axis, inducing the inductive coil to generate an alternating output current.

  • Patent number: 5160393
Abstract: An electromagnetically actuated friction welder produces orbital motion at interfaces between parts (usually of thermoplastic material) to bond the parts by fusion generated by friction. This welder can also be operated alternatively to produce reciprocating vibratory forces thereby providing flexibility as to the selection of an orbital or reciprocating mode, depending upon the joint to be welded. The velocity of motion is controllable preferably around the resonant frequency of the driven structure by adjusting the frequency of the AC power which operates the electromagnetic drive motor of the welder. A plate which carries one of the parts to be welded and which is driven is flexurally mounted for movement in an orbital plane or planes containing the interfaces without substantial tilting by an array of stiff members, such as rods, located around the drive motor, attached to the plate at one end and to a tubular structure at the opposite ends thereof.
