  • Patent number: 7570452
Abstract: In a position control device based on a current observer control for performing two degree of freedom control, calculation accuracy is improved using a fixed point processor. For a target position trajectory and position error, which are inputs of a two degree of freedom control system using an observer, relative values of which reference is the reference trajectory are used, so that the state variable of the observer can hold a relative distance from the reference position. Compared with the case of holding an absolute distance, a range where the value changes is smaller, and the number of effective digits of a decimal point can be increased, and calculation accuracy can be improved even if a fixed point method is used. As a consequence, control current becomes smooth and the generation of resonance and noise can be prevented in an acceleration period, and the generation of residual vibration can be prevented in a constant velocity period and deceleration period, and seek time can be decreased.

  • Patent number: 7567043
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of servo controlling an electric motor during its start-up, comprising at least one step of measuring the speed after a determined duration counting from the commencement of start-up. During a first start-up, the servo control system determines the deviation between the value of the measured speed and a preset value. During a second start-up, the servo control system modifies at least one duration parameter of the commands applied to the motor as a function of the deviation determined during the first start-up, so as to reduce this deviation in the course of this second step. Advantageously, the start-up comprises three phases making it possible to start the motor while avoiding making it too noisy. The invention also relates to an apparatus implementing the method.

Abstract: A scanner system includes a servo control unit. A rotation angle of a rotating shaft supporting a mirror is detected, and an error of the detected value with respect to a commanded value is integrated by an integral compensator so that the detected value is able to track the commanded value. A tracking error proportional compensator is disposed in parallel with the integral compensator so as to add a correction value proportional to the error to the integrated value of the error. A plurality of gains are prepared for each of the integral compensator, the tracking error proportional compensator, a detected value proportional compensator and a detected value differential compensator of the servo control unit. Each gain is changed in accordance with a travel angle of the commanded value. Thus, the mirror can be positioned quickly so that the machining speed can be improved.

Abstract: Arrangements and methods for implementing a “spin-down policy” for HDD motors that is “smart”, flexible and admirably achieves an objective of ensuring prolonged motor life as just discussed. To this end, one specific implementation involves (among other things) the addition of a dedicated cache that acts as a buffer element of sorts for writing or obtaining data during a period when a motor may be spun down, especially (but not necessarily exclusively) in instances when a notebook needs to be running for a large portion of the day. Other analogous implementations are of course possible that would achieve similar ends.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the present invention provide an anti-collision device used for a sample-loading system. This device may include a code plate, an optical coupler, a location signal-detecting unit, a drive pulse counting unit and a drive pulse-sending unit. The optical coupler detects the code plate during the relative movement between the optical coupler and the code plate and outputs detection signals. The location signal detecting unit determines whether to output location signals to the drive pulse counting unit. The drive pulse counting unit judges whether collisions occur to the sample-loading system. Some embodiments of the present invention provide an anti-collision method and a sample-loading system comprising the anti-collision device.

Abstract: An active front steering system includes a motor controller configured to compute a position error from a commanded position value and an actual position value, and then enter one of two modes—a commutation enable mode and a commutation freeze mode—depending upon the value of this position error. The commutation freeze mode applies when the absolute value of the position error is less than a predetermined threshold, and involves sending a set of signals to the motor's phase inputs such that commutation of the motor is prevented and a substantially constant motor hold torque is produced. The commutation enable mode applies when the absolute value of the position error is greater than or equal to the predetermined threshold, and corresponds to normal commutating operating mode.

  • Patent number: 7420348
Abstract: Optical disc drives designed for reduced power consumption switch the supply voltage in three stages between first, second, and third power supplies. The reduction in power consumption that is possible in the focusing and tracking drive circuits with three stage switching control is limited. This drive apparatus enables further reductions in power consumption. A drive output tracking signal is generated according to the drive conditions of the focusing or tracking drive circuit. The drive output tracking signal is applied to the drive circuit power supply, and the power supply is controlled according to the drive output tracking signal. A power supply change detector detects sudden changes in the drive output tracking signal, and inputs the detection signal to the DSP controlling the entire system. The DSP determines whether to improve the power supply response by comparison with predetermined conditions, and returns the result to the power supply.

Abstract: An apparatus for detecting manufacturing parameters of a machine tool is provided, which comprises at least a sensing and transmitting module, and a receiving module. The sensing and transmitting module has a sensor and a wireless transmitting module. The sensor generates a sensing signal with respect to processing parameter of the machine tool. The wireless transmitting module converts the sensing signal into a wireless signal and transmits the wireless signal to the receiving module. Then the wireless signal is decoded and sent to a processing unit for compensating the machine tool. In the present invention, it is not necessary to consider wiring arrangement so that the sensors can be disposed at positions that are close to the mechanism whose operating status could affect the machining process and the compensation, generated according to the foregoing sensing data, for machine tool will be more effective to improve the machining accuracy.

Abstract: A controller for motor activation providing accurate and repeatable position changes by pressing and releasing a push button switch. Repeatable position changes are made in an advance direction by triggering a digital counter for a predetermined number of cycles of a reference clock signal. Backlash in retard motion of the motor is reduced by similarly asserting a retard motor input for an amount of time determined by another digital counter with a following advance correction made automatically after the retard signal is applied, by applying a predetermined retard-advance movement amount, as again counted by a digital counter. The advance binary amount, the retard binary amount and the retard-advance binary amount of set through binary switch inputs to respective counters to count the respective time periods (TG3, TG1, and TG2).

Abstract: A circuit is adapted to activate a writer head of a data storage media drive during both the boost periods as well as the steady state periods. The current supplied to the writer head during the boost periods exceeds the steady state current and flows between positive and negative voltage supplies so as to provide the required magnetic flux change in the inductor disposed in the write head. During the steady state periods, a switch circuit is turned on to provide a second current path across the writer head. During the steady state periods, the current flows between the positive voltage supply and the ground to reduce power consumption. The switch circuit is turned off during the boost periods.
