  • Patent number: 8907793
Abstract: A security system for monitoring a shipping container being transported on a cargo transport vehicle and methods for making and using same. A mounting device removably couples a container security device (CSD) to the cargo container. Monitoring cargo inside the container and detecting vehicle intrusions and container damage, the CSD includes an anti-tamper sensor, a microcontroller, a communication device, and a plurality of accelerometers and strain gages. The microcontroller generates an alarm signal based on output data from the anti-tamper sensor and records container events. The anti-temper sensor undergoes individual and integrated sensor processing procedures; whereas, the integrated sensor processing procedure determines a container alert status. The accelerometers and strain gages define a moment of inertia of the cargo container.

  • Patent number: 8902065
Abstract: In various representative aspects, a security alarm system for protecting an HVAC unit from theft. The system includes an alarm; a control box; a switch connector comprising two terminals, as well as an open state and a closed state; and a fastener that holds the switch connector in the close position while connected to an HVAC unit. The conductors connect the switch connector to the control box, forming a circuit. The control box can apply an energy potential across the circuit, detect an energy flow across the circuit, and trigger the alarm if the energy flow stops. Normally, the terminals do not touch each other, and the switch connector is in its open state. When they touch each other, the switch connector goes to its closed state. If the fastener is removed from the HVAC unit, the switch connector returns to the open state and triggers the alarm.

  • Patent number: 8830061
Abstract: A portable alarm system for notifying a user of theft or movement of an object when the user is at a distance from the object. The portable alarm system may generally comprise a sensor unit and a remote unit. The sensor unit may be placed on or embedded within an object to be protected and have one or more sensors for detecting vibration and/or motion of the sensor unit and thereby the object. The sensor unit is activated when vibration or movement input exceeds a predetermined trigger level value. When the trigger level value is exceeded, an alarm signal is transmitted to the remote unit. The remote unit receives the alarm signal and may generate one or more alarms to indicate object vibration or movement. The one or more alarms may include but are not limited to an audible buzzer, light indicators, and remote unit vibration.

  • Patent number: 8816859
Abstract: A training toilet design that can be adapted for either a dog or a cat or other animal and even for a young human child is disclosed. A space or enclosure receives the trainee and upon receipt a switch is actuated. The switch can either be a pressure actuated mechanical switch or a motion detector switch. In response to the switch changing state, a microcontroller is actuated to provide any one of a number of responses. Responses include an audible encouraging comment when the trainee exits and for when entering the toilet. A timing lapse programmed into the microprocessor can ensure that the exit message is played only when there has been a predetermined lapse time between the entrance and exit of the trainee. Modes that are provided by different combinations of these features are determined by a mode switch that is operable by the user.

  • Patent number: 8816853
Abstract: A self-shunting security system for detecting the absence or presence of a removable auxiliary alarm assembly for preventing theft of one or more products operatively connected to said system. A port is operatively attached to circuitry and is adapted to receive the removable auxiliary alarm assembly. A shunting assembly is also operatively attached to the circuitry and is disposed in relation to the port for detecting the absence or presence of the removable auxiliary alarm assembly within the port. The port and shunting assembly are in parallel electrical configuration. The shunting assembly automatically forms a first closed circuit when the removable auxiliary alarm assembly is not inserted into the port.

  • Patent number: 8816856
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring a status of a medical instrument is provided. Using an input peripheral associated with a computer terminal, a code associated with the medical instrument to be subjected to a cleaning operation after a previous use of the medical instrument is received. A timer for monitoring a duration of the cleaning operation is initiated. In response to completion of the cleaning operation determined based on the timer, a status of the medical instrument in an electronic record associated with the medial instrument stored in a non-transitory computer-readable medium is updated to indicate that the medical instrument has been cleaned. An indication that the cleaning operation being performed on the medical instrument is complete is then issued.

  • Patent number: 8816854
Abstract: A system for detecting electronic article surveillance (“EAS”) marker shielding includes an EAS subsystem a metal detector, a cart detection subsystem and a processor. The EAS subsystem is operable to detect an EAS marker in an interrogation zone. The metal detector is operable to detect a metal object in the interrogation zone. The cart detection subsystem includes a sensor array. The cart detection subsystem is operable to differentiate between a wheeled device and a human passing through the interrogation zone based on the sensor array. The processor is electrically coupled to the EAS subsystem, the metal detector and the cart detection subsystem. The processor is programmed to receive information outputted from the cart detection system and information outputted from the metal detector to determine whether to generate an alarm signal based on the presence of EAS marker shielding.

  • Patent number: 8816858
Abstract: An apparatus for preventing loss of an item and quickly searching for the item includes a slave configured to act as a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag having unique identifier information in an internal tag memory; and a hand-held master configured to function as an RFID reader and to permit the change of at least one of a recognition distance and a recognition width, at which the master recognizes the slave. When the distance between a user and an item is out of a predetermined range, a warning such as an alarm or voice signal is provided to the user, so that it is possible to prevent loss of the item. Alternatively, it is possible to quickly search for a misplaced item whenever the user desires it and has misplaced the same.
