  • Patent number: 9788297
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for improved delivery notification using a wireless node network having an ID node, a master node, and a server. The master node detects a signal from the ID node as the ID node approaches the master node located substantially near a delivery point, where the ID node is related to an item being shipped (such as being in or part of the package that holds the item). The master node determines shipping information related to the ID node and an intended recipient of the item being shipped (e.g., via server inquiries), and transmits a notification from the master node to the identified recipient, the notification informing the intended recipient about the item being substantially near the delivery point. In some aspects, the master node may transmit an instruction to the server, which causes the server to transmit the notification to the intended recipient.

  • Patent number: 9774490
Abstract: A system and method for propagating fault information in an Ethernet OAM network having multiple levels of OAM domains. An Alarm Indication and Suppression (AIS) frame is generated by a Maintenance Intermediate Point (MIP) node upon detecting a fault condition in a first OAM domain, which is transmitted to one or more Maintenance End Points (MEPs) of the first OAM domain. Upon receiving the AIS frames, the MEP nodes are operable generate another AIS frame for propagating to an adjacent higher level second OAM domain. Responsive to the AIS frame from the lower level first OAM domain, any alarms caused in the second OAM domain due to the fault condition in the first OAM domain are suppressed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a disaggregation apparatus (4) for being used in a multi-group electrical network (5), which comprises multiple electrical groups (1, 2, 3), each comprising one or more appliances (11, 12, 13, 21, 22, 23, 31, 32, 33). A determination unit (7) determines an electrical group (1, 2, 3) comprising an appliance, of which an operational state has been changed, based on first changes in mains voltages (V1, V2, V3) measured while the operational state change occurs, second and third changes in the mains voltages (V1, V2, V3) measured while switchable loads (1n, 2n, 3n) are switched, and the resistances (R1n, R2n, R3n) of the switchable loads (1n, 2n, 3n). Thus, a misdetection due to an operational state change of an appliance in another electrical group may be avoided and the accuracy of disaggregation may be improved in a multi-group electrical network (5).

Abstract: A mobile cart that holds a bag for receiving solid waste generated during a medical or surgical procedure. The cart includes a sensor that monitors whether or not an object containing metal is placed in the bag. A processor monitors the signal output by the sensor. If the sensor signal indicates that an object with a minimal amount of metal is placed in the bag, the processor momentarily asserts an audible alarm and continuously asserts a light alarm. The light alarm remains asserted until turned off. If, while the light alarm is on, the sensor signal indicates a second object with the minimal amount of waste is placed in the container, the processor again momentarily asserts the audible alarm. This provides notice that it may be necessary to investigate the contents of the bag to determine if not one but two or more objects were inadvertently discarded.

Under these rules, a determination of probable loss (for example, theft, inadvertent leaving behind) of one of the mobile devices depends, at least in part, upon the activities and/or status of other mobile devices in the set. For example, if a first mobile device in the set is expected, under the machine logic rules, to always be near a second mobile device in the set, then a determination that the second mobile device is located far away from the first mobile device may trigger a warning, or other mitigating action, that the first mobile device has probably been lost.

The protrusion is located adjacent to the extension, distant from the alarm device, and can include a key, switch, connector, or the like. The protrusion, in some cases, can be releasably connectable to a housing that is in turn connected to the extension, so as to form a loop in which an item can be secured for protection, e.g., from theft.

Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with electronic components such as a touch screen display. The touch screen display may be controlled based on information from a proximity sensor. The proximity sensor may have a light source that emits infrared light and a light detector that detects reflected infrared light. When the electronic device is in the vicinity of a user's head, the proximity sensor may produce data indicative of the presence of the user's head. Variations in proximity sensor output due to user hair color and smudges on the proximity sensor can be accommodated by using a dynamically adjustable proximity sensor data threshold in processing proximity sensor data. Proximity sensor data may be analyzed in real time to detect signal strength fluctuations that are indicative of the presence of low-reflectively dark hair on the user's head. Threshold adjustments may be based on the presence of dark hair.

The methods involve: receiving, by a Radio Frequency Identification (“RFID”) tag (1141) coupled to the object, a Radio Frequency (“RF”) interrogator signal transmitted from an RFID reader (108); processing, by the RFID tag, the RF interrogator signal to determine if the RF interrogator signal applies thereto; and performing operations by the RFID tag to direct a person's attention directly to the object by activating at least one alerting mechanism (220) electrically and mechanically coupled to the RFID tag when the RF interrogator signal is determined to apply to the RFID tag. In some scenarios, the alerting is additionally or alternatively performed by a beacon (110).

Abstract: A location and mapping service is described that creates a global database of indoor navigation maps through crowd-sourcing and data fusion technologies. The navigation maps consist of a database of geo-referenced, uniquely described features in the multi-dimensional sensor space (e.g., including structural, RF, magnetic, image, acoustic, or other data) that are collected automatically as a tracked mobile device is moved through a building (e.g. a person with a mobile phone or a robot). The feature information can be used to create building models as one or more tracked devices traverse a building.

Abstract: A system and method comprises a plurality of RF antennas having beams directed to a storage space in which medical items having RFID tags are stored. Each antenna is controlled to inject energy at a different frequency in a frequency-hopping set of frequencies to activate the tags. The return signal strength is monitored and for each tag that responds, the antenna location, frequency of the injected energy, identification response, and signal strength are stored as identification data. If a tag fails to respond in new scans, the antenna at which the tag last responded receives all the frequency-hopping frequencies in an attempt to locate the tag. If new tags are found, they are compared to a list of expected new medical items.

Abstract: Interfacing application programs and motion sensors of a device. In one aspect, a high-level command is received from an application program running on a motion sensing device, where the application program implements one of multiple different types of applications available for use on the device. The high-level command requests high-level information derived from the output of motion sensors of the device that include rotational motion sensors and linear motion sensors. The command is translated to cause low-level processing of motion sensor data output by the motion sensors, the low-level processing following requirements of the type of application and determining the high-level information in response to the command. The application program is ignorant of the low-level processing, and the high-level information is provided to the application program.
