  • Patent number: 11768375
Abstract: Variable-focus lenses are arranged as a lens pair that work on opposite sides of a see-through optical combiner used in a mixed-reality head-mounted display (HMD) device. An eye-side variable-focus lens is configured as a negative lens over an eyebox of the see-through optical combiner to enable virtual-world objects to be set at a close distance. The negative lens is compensated by its conjugate using a real-world-side variable-focus lens configured as a positive lens to provide for an unperturbed see-through experience. For non-presbyopes, the powers of the lenses are perfectly offset. For presbyopes, the lens powers may be mismatched at times to provide simultaneous views of both virtual-world and real-world objects on the display in sharp focus. Responsively an eye tracker indicating that the user is engaged in close viewing, optical power is added to the real-world-side lens to push close real-world objects optically farther away and into sharp focus for the presbyopic user.

Abstract: Molded ophthalmic lenses with improved optical qualities can be manufactured at high volumes at low costs to provide single-use lenses. These ophthalmic lenses are contact lenses for examination or treatment of the interior of an eye, are formed of a moldable material, and have a ring portion integral with an optical and eye contacting portions. The ring portion extends from the main body and the ratio of the height of the ring portion to thickness of the lens is about 0.1 to 0.2. These features reduce production costs and improve the optical quality of the lens including allowing any debris, bubbles and the like that tend to adhere to the surface of the mold during the molding process to collect away from the optical centerline of the lens so as to improve the optical quality of the molded ophthalmic lens and minimizing shrinkage during the molding process.

  • Patent number: 10588738
Abstract: Lenses and methods are provided for improving peripheral and/or central vision for patients who suffer from certain retinal conditions that reduce central vision or patients who have undergone cataract surgery. The lens is configured to improve vision by having an optic configured to focus light incident along a direction parallel to an optical axis at the fovea in order to produce a functional foveal image. The optic is configured to focus light incident on the patient's eye at an oblique angle with respect to the optical axis at a peripheral retinal location disposed at a distance from the fovea, the peripheral retinal location having an eccentricity between ?30 degrees and 30 degrees. The image quality at the peripheral retinal location is improved by reducing at least one optical aberration at the peripheral retinal location. The method for improving vision utilizes ocular measurements to iteratively adjust the shape factor of the lens to reduce peripheral refractive errors.

A method includes forming a first pivot-notch, a first stop-notch, and a first bias-notch in a first wafer by reference to first features formed on or in the first wafer. Also formed is a second pivot-notch, a second stop-notch, and a second bias-notch in a second wafer by reference to second features formed on or in the second wafer. A first wafer is mounted in an aligning device, wherein a two-contact element enters into the first pivot-notch, and a single-contact element enters the first stop-notch. The second wafer is mounted in the aligning device, wherein the two-contact element enters into the second pivot-notch, and the single-contact element enters the second stop-notch. A biasing force is exerted onto surfaces of the first and second bias-notches to align the first features with the second features.
