Publication number: 20100309460Abstract: The invention provides a new class of photoconductive materials and devices, and methods for obtaining high internal photoconductive gain. The devices include a semiconductor or material with an electronic band gap provided in a confined geometry and which exhibits multi-exciton generation (MEG) when illuminated with photons with energies above the threshold for MEG. Due to carrier-carrier Coulombic interactions, multi-excitons within the confined material efficiently recombine via Auger recombination, in which a carrier from one exciton is excited to a higher energy level relative to the band edge. Carriers excited by Auger recombination are subsequently trapped by trap states that capture carriers excited high above the band edge more efficiently than carriers near the band edge. Carriers trapped by the trap states allow for the collection and recirculation of untrapped carriers of opposite charge when used as a photoconductive device, producing high internal photoconductive gain.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2010Publication date: December 9, 2010Inventors: Edward H. Publication number: 20100182596Abstract: A photo transistor has an active region spaced from a source by barrier. A drain is laterally spaced from the active region. Light incident on the active region creates electron-hole pairs. Holes accumulate at the barrier and modulate the effective barrier height to electrons. A gate reset voltage then is applied to gate which lower the barrier allowing the holes to escape.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 15, 2010Publication date: July 22, 2010Applicant: ST-ERICSSON SAInventors: John M. Patent number: 7746457Abstract: The present invention provides a light quantity measuring apparatus capable of properly measuring, in short time, light to be measured whose quantity fluctuates periodically. Charges generated and stored in photodiodes during a measurement period are read in a plurality of times. A control unit obtains pixel data according to quantity of the charges generated and stored by the photodiodes in a plurality of storage periods obtained by dividing a measurement period. Further, the control unit adds up the plurality of pieces of pixel data, and calculates pixel data according to the quantities of charges generated and stored by the photodiodes in the measurement period.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2008Date of Patent: June 29, 2010Assignee: Konica Minolta Sensing, Inc.Inventors: Kiyoshi Imai, Makoto Takahashi, Shinji Shimizu

Publication number: 20100157290Abstract: This invention enables a worker, who performs a work for optical axis adjustment, to easily grasp whether adjustment for further increasing the light receiving quantity is possible. In a multi-optical axis photoelectronic sensor, a minimum value of the light receiving quantities obtained for every optical axis is detected every time a process of measuring, while lighting each light emitting element 10 by turns, the light receiving quantity of a light receiving element corresponding to a lighted light emitting element 10 is repeated for one cycle, and a peak value of the minimum light receiving quantities detected in the past is detected. A bar graph based on specific values of the most recent minimum light receiving quantity and the peak value, or a bar graph showing a proportion of the most recent minimum light receiving quantity with respect to the peak value is displayed using a plurality of indication lights 100, each arranged on the front surfaces of a light projector 1 and a light receiver 2.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2009Publication date: June 24, 2010Inventors: Kazunori Osako, Takayoshi Takahara
