  • Patent number: 7009721
Abstract: A user uses a control panel (13) to specify quick memory transmission and instruct the machine to begin the procedure. The first page of the document is scanned in by a scanning unit (14) and stored in a image memory (19). Upon storing of the image of the first page of the document in the image memory (19), NCU (17) automatically dials a transmission recipient. Additionally, a monitoring unit (16) allows the user to hear the sounds of the communication signals at the start of transmission. If, during the scanning of a second, third, or later page of a multi-page document, free space in the image memory (19) falls below a given value, then the page at which the memory became full is indicated to the user, thereby indicating the page at which retransmission should begin.

  • Patent number: 6977742
Abstract: An apparatus for estimating printer resources compares an amount of printer resources required to print a document to an amount of printer resources available at a printer to determine whether sufficient resources are available to successfully print the document. To solve this problem, a data communication apparatus according to this invention notifies a partner apparatus of the receiving capacity in the normal reception mode of the apparatus at the start of communication. If high-quality transmission is designated for image data transmitted from the partner apparatus, the data communication apparatus determines whether the image data exceeds its own receiving capacity in the high-quality reception mode. If the image data does not exceed the receiving capacity in the high-quality reception mode, the data communication apparatus performs high-quality reception/recording; otherwise, notifies the partner apparatus of its own receiving capacity in the high-quality reception mode.

The method comprising defining an information distribution policy with respect to the fax traffic, then monitoring the fax traffic in accordance with the distribution policy, where the monitoring comprising: (i) de-modulating the fax traffic being monitored into a digital stream; (ii) reconstructing from the digital stream a graphic image representing at least part of the information within the fax traffic; and (iii) analyzing information within the reconstructed image, and then applying the distribution policy with respect to the analyzed fax traffic.

  • Patent number: 6785014
Abstract: There is provided a facsimile apparatus which transmits image data so that the image quality level of the received image can be kept in a range appropriate to the transmission signal rate without extending the transmission period of time in consideration of the data transmission rate varying with the communication conditions between transmitting and receiving facsimile apparatuses. A document is read by an image reading unit as an image having halftone densities so that the image of the document is converted into binary image data having different two or more gradients in a binary processing unit. A central processing unit conducts signal rate matching of the data transmission rate of the image data between the transmitting and receiving facsimile apparatuses through a communication line, line control unit and a modem.

  • Patent number: 6785021
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating facsimile transmissions has one or more store and forward facilities, each associated with a plurality of subscriber facsimile machines, typically coupled over the switched telephone network. The store and forward facilities include a computer for controlling operations and mass data storage equipment. A subscriber to the system delivers an outgoing facsimile message to the store and forward facility with which it is associated, which records the fax message together with data as to originating facsimile machine and destination facsimile machine. The store and forward facility then delivers the facsimile message to the intended receiver facsimile machine, either directly or through another store and forward facility. If unsuccessful on an initial attempt, the store and forward facility periodically retrys to send the facsimile message.

  • Patent number: 6775035
Abstract: It is so arranged that even if a procedure which does not report the number of lines of an image before image information is transmitted gives rise to an error, the occurrence of the same error can be prevented when a message is re-transmitted. To accomplish this, a reading circuit (14) reads a JPEG color image when facsimile transmission of the image is performed in a direct transmit mode. While the image is being stored in a memory (18), the number of lines in the image is counted. If the number of lines counted attains a predetermined number, the image is encoded in accordance with the JPEG standard and then is transmitted. Here the number of lines is transmitted as zero before the image information is transmitted. If an error occurs on the receiving side, the image is re-transmitted. At re-transmission, the counted number of lines is transmitted before the image information.

Actions to be taken are based upon a time-variable set of input conditions which may be determined from one or more of the destination, the source, a database of past delivery attempts, and a human analyst. The actions may include one or more of resubmitting the fax document to the network for a next delivery attempt, cancelling the document, sending a request to the source or destination for additional delivery information, and identifying the destination as a technical problem. Abstract: Pixel information and control information transmitted by a facsimile machine 1a is received by a procedure controlling circuit 13 having a MODEM 13a for facsimile machines. A facsimile procedure controller 14 decodes the pixel information and the control information. A connection/transfer controller 15 edits the decoded information and produces a control packet and a pixel packet. The control packet and the pixel packet are output to a local area network (LAN) 4 via a LAN controller 17 and a LAN control circuit 18. When receiving a facsimile, the control packet signal transmitted via the LAN 4 is converted into pixel control information by the connection/transfer controller 15, and the pixel control information is supplied to the facsimile procedure controller 14. The connection/transfer controller 15 also converts the received pixel packet signal into pixel information. The pixel information is temporarily stored in a memory 16.

Abstract: Disclosed is a color-file communicating facsimile apparatus that is capable of communicating non-document image files through a simple method. A FIF (Facsimile Information Field) is provided with bits indicating that a color file to be transmitted is an sYCC JPEG-encoded file in which the concept of resolution is absent and bits specifying the sYCC full-color mode. If these bits have been set, a transmitting side sets resolution information and image-width information to any values. If these bits are valid, a receiving side ignores resolution information and image-width information in the FIF and performs print-out using information that has been obtained from header information of the received JPEG file. If these bits are invalid, ordinary transmission, reception and print processing are carried out.
