Bypass An Inoperative Switch Or Inoperative Element Of A Switching System Patents (Class 370/217)
  • Patent number: 9485180
Abstract: In one example, a network device determines a set of candidate loop-free alternate (LFA) next hops for forwarding network traffic from the network device to a multi-homed network by taking into account a first cost associated with a second path from a first border router to the multi-homed network and a second cost associated with a second border router to the multi-homed network, wherein the multi-homed network is external to an interior routing domain in which the network device is located. The network device selects an LFA next hop from the set of candidate LFA next hops, to be stored as an alternate next hop for forwarding network traffic to the multi-homed network, and updates forwarding information stored by the network device to install the selected LFA next hop as the alternate next hop for forwarding network traffic from the network device to the multi-horned network.

  • Patent number: 9473392
Abstract: A technique for mid-span re-optimization of traffic engineered label switched paths within a network that uses a label switching protocol (e.g., MPLS) enables a network operator to move traffic to quickly prepare for link or nodal maintenance. The technique establishes, at an intermediate router, a first label switch path (LSP) along a path between an ingress router and an egress router. The intermediate router forwards traffic via the first LSP and establishes a bypass tunnel to protect against link failure between the intermediate router and a next intermediate router on the first LSP. The intermediate router continues forwarding traffic on the first LSP, instead of the bypass tunnel, based on the receipt of a link failure simulation instruction at the intermediate router from a network administration node. The intermediate router discontinues forwarding the traffic via the first LSP based on the receipt of second signaling.

Abstract: Jobs submitted to a primary location of a service within a period of time before and/or after a fail-over event are determined and are resubmitted to a secondary location of the service. For example, jobs that are submitted fifteen minutes before the fail-over event and jobs that are submitted to the primary network before the fail-over to the second location is completed are resubmitted at the secondary location. After the fail-over event occurs, the jobs are updated with the secondary network that is taking the place of the primary location of the service. A mapping of job input parameters (e.g. identifiers and/or secrets) from the primary location to the secondary location are used by the jobs when they are resubmitted to the secondary location. Each job determines what changes are to be made to the job request based on the job being resubmitted.

The extensions to the associated RSVP signaling method include a plurality of additional Association Types of an Extended Association object carried in a RSVP Path message transmitted by the head-end node to the tail-end node over the forward direction LSP, wherein the additional Association Types explicitly identify the provisioning of the forward and reverse direction LSPs as co-routed or non co-routed.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are described for reducing the latency in a transceiver. A transceiver includes a high latency communication channel and a low latency communication channel that is configured to be a bypass channel for the high latency communication channel. The low latency communication channel may be utilized when implementing the transceiver is used in low latency applications. By bypassing the high latency communication channel, the high latency that is introduced therein (due to the many stages of de-serialization used to reduce the data rate for digital processing) can be avoided. An increase in data rate is realized when the low latency communication channel is used to pass data. A delay-locked loop (DLL) may be used to phase align the transmitter clock of the transceiver with the receiver clock of the transceiver to compensate for a limited tolerance of phase offset between these clocks.

Abstract: Embodiments include a system for a multilevel network with inter-layer multipath redundancy between a first network layer of leaf switches and a second network layer of spine switches. Each leaf switch is connected to multiple spine switches to provide multiple inter-layer communication paths between the leaf switches and the spine switches. Each spine switch is assigned a common Layer 2 and 3 network address, while each leaf switch is configured with an inter-layer link selection protocol to selectively connect only one active inter-layer link between the leaf switch and the wide area layer while disabling all other available inter-layer links between the leaf switch and the wide area layer. Alternative inter-layer links is thus activated without requiring the leaf switch to be configured with a new address for the alternate inter-layer link or relying on any multipath functionality implemented within the spine switches.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention include an N-Node virtual link trunking (VLT) system comprising a set of N nodes collectively provide a logical fabric-level view that is consistent across the set of N nodes. Embodiments of the N-Node VLT system comprise a control plane mechanism to provide Layer 2 multipathing between access network devices (switches or servers) and the core network. The N-Node VLT system provides a loop-free topology with active-active load-sharing of uplinks from access to the core. Accordingly, the N-Node VLT system eliminates the disadvantage of Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) (active-standby links) by allowing link aggregation group (LAG) terminations on multiple separate distribution or core switches and also supporting a loop-free topology. Additional benefits of an N-Node VLT system include, but are not limited to, higher resiliency, improved link utilization, and improved manageability of the network.

Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for reducing power consumption, latency, and chip complexity in a datacom/telecom multiplexer and demultiplexer. Adding a high frequency analog domain data path around or in place of a standard digital core data path allows the elimination of the demultiplexing and multiplexing stages required to drop the data rate of data streams down to that required for a standard digital core. Latency is also reduced due to the higher operating frequency of sequential elements required for data operations. The digital core can be powered down when not in use, and can be activated when necessary.

Abstract: In one aspect, the present invention addresses Layer-3 (L3) connection monitoring between two “multi-attached” host nodes that are interconnected via an intervening communication network having a known network topology. The present invention provides the two-fold benefit of rapid connection failure detection and failure location determination. In one or more embodiments, the present invention “pinpoints” the failure location, improving the intelligence of any triggered failure recovery mechanism and/or providing better, more meaningful failure reporting. A BFD session is established between the local and remote host nodes for each L3 communication path between them, e.g., for each unique pairing of local and remote network attachment points. Upon the occurrence of an L3 connection failure, the pattern of up/down states for these BFD sessions is analyzed, along with knowledge of the involved network topology, to determine the apparent location of the L3 connection failure.

As long as the loss budgets are adequate, entire DWDM wavebands can be restored with no switching or manipulation of individual lightpaths. Following a substitution transient, the DWDM layer would never know the break happened. In environments where fiber switching devices are low cost, and ducts are full of dark fiber, this could provide a very low cost alternative to protect an entire DWDM transport layer (or working capacity envelope) against the single largest cause of outage.
