Bypass An Inoperative Channel Patents (Class 370/225)
  • Patent number: 9172598
Abstract: A method is provided for establishing a reliable communication channel between an encapsulation node and a cluster of decapsulation nodes across a communication network. The method is implemented at the encapsulation node and comprises the following steps. A primary session is initialized with a primary decapsulation node in the cluster of decapsulation nodes during which an assigned address is received. A redundant session is initialized with a redundant decapsulation node in the cluster of decapsulation nodes. Data is transmitted to and received from the decapsulation node until a failure is detected. Once the failure is detected, data is transmitted to and received from the redundant decapsulation node instead of the primary decapsulation node.

Abstract: The WSAN simultaneous failures recovery method ranks each node based on the number of hops to a pre-designated root node in the network. The method identifies some nodes as cluster heads based on the number of their children in the recovery tree. The method assigns a recovery weight and a nearby cluster node to each node. Nearby cluster nodes serve as gateways to other nodes that belong to that cluster. The recovery weight is used to decide which node is better to move in order to achieve lower recovery cost. The recovery method uses the same on-going set of actors to restore connectivity. Simulation results have demonstrated that the recovery method can achieve low recovery cost per failed node in small and large networks. The results have also shown that clustering leads to lower recovery cost if the sub-network needs to re-establish links with the rest of the network.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed which facilitate the management of changes to a hosted network. In one aspect, a resource optimization manager obtains an identification of one or more changes to be implemented on a hosted network. The network validation manager component simulates the implementation of the identified changes and records state information associated with the monitored simulation. The network validation manager component generates a network change template that includes the information recorded from the simulation of the change to the hosted network. In another aspect, the network validation manager component can utilize network change templates to monitor the implementation of changes to the hosted network. The network change templates can then be utilized to determine whether to proceed with implementation of the change to the hosted network or whether to revert the hosted network to a condition prior to the implementation of the identified change.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide an integrated host and subsystem port selection methodology that uses performance measurements combined with information about active data paths. This technique also helps in resilient fabric planning by selecting ports from redundant fabrics. In a typical embodiment, host port to storage port pairs that create a path between a host and a storage device will be identified. From these pairs, a set of host port to storage port candidates for communicate data from the host to the storage device will be identified based on a set of resiliency constraints. Then, a specific host port to storage port pair will be selected from the set based on a lowest joint workload measurement. A path will then be created between the specific host port and storage port, and data will be communicated from the host to the storage device via the path.

Abstract: In a method (400) for routing packets between a plurality of top switches (110a-110n) and a plurality of leaf switches (120a-120n) using a balancing table (204, 208, 210) in a fat tree network (100), a failed link between at least one top switch (110n) and at least one leaf switch (120n) is detected (402). In addition, the balancing table (204, 208, 210) is modified (406) based on the detected failed link, and the packets are routed (408) between the plurality of top switches (110a-110n) and the plurality of leaf switches (120a-120n) in the fat tree network (100) based on the modified balancing table (204, 208, 210).

Abstract: Traditional computer networks have been designed with the need for highly reliable packet delivery. This is largely handled by a centrally managed simple send-acknowledge protocol. In a highly dynamic mesh network, these methods are inadequate to ensure the most reliable packet delivery. This invention uses the natural redundancy of routes in a mesh and other techniques to increase the reliability of a network, even as the paths to any given node are dynamic in nature.

  • Patent number: 9001647
Abstract: Link identifiers such as VIDs, selected from a defined range of values, are locally assigned by each node on a link state protocol controlled Ethernet network to each of its links or adjacencies. The link identifiers are assigned by the nodes such that each link or adjacency at the node is uniquely identified by a different link identifier. A link state protocol adjacency notification mechanism or other flooding mechanism is used to disseminate the locally assigned link identifiers to other nodes on the link state protocol controlled Ethernet network. The link identifiers are added by the nodes to their topology databases to enable detour routes to be locally calculated by the nodes on the network in a distributed manner. Upon occurrence of a failure, the link identifiers are used to source route traffic around the failure so that traffic may continue to traverse the link state protocol controlled Ethernet network.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a plurality of communication paths in a second direction in a communication network is determined, based on reversing communication paths established in a first direction in the communication network. Then, a path quality of the communication paths in the second direction is monitored. Based on the monitored path quality, it is then determined whether the communication paths in the second direction satisfy a communication requirement. Finally, a particular communication path of unacceptable quality in the second direction is detected when the particular communication path in the second direction fails to satisfy the communication requirement.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a source transmits one or more data packets to a destination over a primary pseudowire (PW). When a device on the primary PW detects a downstream failure of the primary PW, and in response to receiving one or more data packets from a source from the failed primary PW, the device adds a loopback packet identifier to the one or more received data packets, and returns the one or more data packets with the loopback packet identifier to the source upstream on the primary PW. Accordingly, in response to receiving the data packet returned with a loopback packet identifier from the primary PW (in response to the downstream failure), the source retransmits the one or more data packets to the destination over a backup PW.

Abstract: Tools and techniques are provided to provide Voice-over-IP (VoIP) communications. On receiving a user request to initiate a telephonic connection from a local site, at which the user is using a VoIP telecommunication device which has no link failover functionality, a system establishes over wide area network links at least two tunnels between a controller at the local site and another controller. Then the system transmits VoIP traffic over at least one of the tunnels from the controller at the local site to the other controller. The system also detects failure of the primary tunnel during the call and performs failover by changing a data path during the call to transmit packets over at least one non-failed tunnel.
