Abstract: The present invention is an improved cosmetic applicator which contains a new and novel apparatus to expose and retract a cosmetic stick contained within the applicator apparatus. The apparatus comprises an internal threaded shaft supported on a base which includes rotation means such as a knob, the shaft having a multiplicity of spaced apart threads on its exterior surface. A hollow cylindrical shelf having means at one end to support a cosmetic and a pair of interior oppositely disposed male teeth adjacent its opposite end which interact with the threads enables the shelf to ride up and down on the threaded shaft as the knob is turned to thereby expose and retract the cosmetic supported at the upper end of the cylindrical shelf. A hollow exterior cylindrical casing is supported at one end within the base and surrounds the hollow cylindrical self and the cosmetic supported thereon. The cylindrical casing is covered by an exterior cylindrical casing when the apparatus is not in use.

  • Patent number: 6918511
Abstract: A dispensing device comprising a container with product outlets, a screw that operates a piston within the container and a torsion spring that biases the screw. The torsion spring includes a hoop having one or more inner tabs. The hoop is frictionally engaged with an interior surface of the container. A boss is fixed to the screw and a flexible arm interconnects the hoop and boss. The torsion spring also includes a spoke that is angularly offset from the flexible arm. Application of a rotational force to the screw urges the piston toward the container outlets, causing the flexible arm to yield, allowing the boss to rotate relative to the hoop until the spoke engages an inner tab. Further rotation releases the hoop from frictional engagement with the container. Once the rotational force is removed, the hoop re-engages the container interior surface and the flexible arm regains its original shape, causing the hub and screw to counter-rotate, which simultaneously moves the piston away from the fluid outlets.

  • Patent number: 6820776
Abstract: A device for dispensing solid material from a tube having a longitudinally displaceable internal piston moved by an externally operated spindle threading through the piston. At its base the spindle has a narrowed, non-threaded region, such that when the piston is fully withdrawn into the tube, the threads of the spindle and piston slip if the spindle continues to be rotated. To prevent the piston threads from completely disengaging the spindle threads, the spindle's non-threaded region is shorter than the piston's internal threads. In this way, the spindle will not break even if it continues to be rotated after the piston is fully withdrawn into the tube, yet it readily engages the piston threads when turned in the opposite direction to displace the piston towards the dispensing end of the tube. Thus the device as a whole remains reliably usable.

Abstract: A device for packaging and distributing a substance, for example, a liquid. The device includes a housing for the substance, a piston movable in the housing, and a piston-driving mechanism. The piston-driving mechanism includes a first element turnable relative to a second element to cause axial displacement of the piston in the housing, after at least one of the elements has turned an amount relative to the other. The device can include a ring for transforming relative rotation of the two elements over a first angular path in a substance-dispensing direction into relative axial displacement of the two elements. The ring can be arranged to turn firstly with the first element over the first angular path and to co-operate with the second element to cause the axial displacement. Secondly, the ring can turn when relative rotation of the two elements is continued beyond the first angular path, relative to the sleeve element by being driven in rotation by the second element.

Abstract: Here is disclosed a thrust-out type container for a rod-like article such as a lipstick basically comprising a body and a cap. The body has an axis C extending in a vertical direction and comprises, around the axis C and radially outward from the axis C, a movable member, an inner cylindrical tube, an outer cylindrical tube and a control tube in this order. An intermediate cylindrical tube is interposed between the outer cylindrical tube and the control tube. The intermediate cylindrical tube is fixed to the control tube and rotatable around the outer cylindrical tube. An outer peripheral surface of the intermediate cylindrical tube and an inner peripheral surface of the cap come in air-tight contact with each other. Abstract: A stick type cosmetic material feeding container which houses a stick type cosmetic material in such a manner that the stick type cosmetic material can be fed out prevents a spiral engagement mechanism from breaking at the uppermost limit or the like. The stick type cosmetic material feeding container further eliminates unsteadiness of the spiral engagement mechanism and can obtain the stress of slide due to the spiral engagement mechanism. A front cylinder 10 having a tip opening hole 11 through which a stick type cosmetic material advances and retreats is rotatably connected with a container body 3. A core chuck member 30 having a spiral section 34 is inserted in the container body 3 and a rotation regulating mechanism for synchronously rotating the front cylinder 10 and the core chuck member 30 is provided. Further, an elastic engagement section 68 is provided in a through hole 61 of an elastic cylindrical body 60 which rotates synchronously with the container body 3.

Abstract: In the outer sleeve there runs a threaded spindle which is mounted in a bearing sleeve (5) and on which a piston (30) is movable up and down. The outer sleeve (1) is in relation to its inner diameter Ad considerably longer than with known glue sticks. The ratio of the inner diameter Ad of the outer sleeve (1) to the length AL of the part of the outer sleeve which serves for receiving a rod-like adhesive mass (10) here lies in the region of 1:6 to 1:15. This however according to the invention demands that the threaded spindle is configured such that it simultaneously serves as a conveyor worm. Thanks to the special configuration of the piston (30) is spite of the great length of the threaded spindle there is achieved a bending-breakage stabilisation.
