  • Patent number: 10814030
Abstract: A hybrid full-spectrum air purification device employs a UV light source; ionization, both negative and positive or only negative ions; and, adsorbent VOC filters, zeolite, potassium permanganates, carbon, polymers, tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, tromethamine, and/or the like, applied to carbon monolith structures. Room temperature bi-metallic nano-particle catalysts, such as supported noble metal based catalysts (e.g. platinum, palladium, gold, silver, etc.) with inert oxide in this case platinized tin oxide (Pt/SnOx) combined with, or without, non-noble metal oxides such as manganese dioxide (MnO2) and/or titanium dioxide (TiO2), and/or the like, may also be applied to the carbon monolith(s). The device is suitable for installation immediately above, or adjacent, a cooling coil with the air flow entering the germicidal (UV) area first, followed by the VOC catalyst filters and finally being exposed to the dual/single polarity ionization zone.

Abstract: For changing a property of a polar liquid, a transducer including a solenoidal coil is disposed at least partially within the liquid, which is prevented from penetrating the interior of the coil. An alternating electrical current applied to the coil produces a magnetic field about the coil. The current has a frequency and an amplitude such that the magnetic field has an effect on the liquid changing a property of the liquid at a distance of at least 5 meters from the transducer, wherein the property is gas exchange rate, surface tension, viscosity, freezing point, or partial vapor pressure. A system may include two transducers, wherein the electrical currents are offset in phase or frequency for controlling the effect.

Abstract: The invention provides microfluidic devices, systems, and methods for manipulating an object within a channel of a microfluidic device using an external electrode. The device has a channel disposed within the device, the channel having no included electrodes. The channel has a wall, at least a portion of which is penetrable by an electric field generated external to the device, the wall being penetrable such that the electric field extends through the wall portion and into a region within the channel. The system includes the microfluidic device and an electrode external to and not bonded to the device. In the method, the external electrode is placed adjacent to the device and energized to generate an electric field that extends through the wall of the device and into the channel, thereby manipulating an object within the channel.

  • Patent number: 10633266
Abstract: An apparatus for treating a contaminated fluid has a UV lamp within a tubular housing. A plurality of baffles within the housing create meandering pathways parallel to the lamp for exposing the fluid to the UV light along the entire length of the pathways. A photocatalytic coating on the baffles and inner surfaces of the housing is maintained within a pre-set radial distance, preferably no more than about 75 mm, from the lamp for optimal creation of a photocatalytic reactant. The contaminated fluid flowing through the meandering pathways is maintained in close proximity to the lamp and has adequate time for exposure to the ultraviolet light and photocatalytic reactant for treatment before exiting the housing. The baffles are removably positioned within the housing for convenient maintenance or to alter the length of the pathways, without re-sizing the housing.

  • Patent number: 10625260
Abstract: An analysis system may perform operations on an analyte that may be combined with multiple regents prior to being introduced into a flow cell. The instrument may include a volume into which the reagents to be combined with the analyte are aspirated one-by-one. The volume may be formed as a serpentine channel in a valve manifold associated with sippers for aspirating the reagents. The reagents may then be mixed by cycling a pump to move the reagents within the mixing volume or channel. For this, the reagents may be aspirated from a recipient into the volume or channel, ejected back into the recipient, and this process may be performed repeatedly to enhance mixing.
