Abstract: A composition includes a substrate (a) including a surface and (b) a multi-layer coating of nanowires positioned on at least a portion of the surface. The coating includes three or more laminar layers of nanowires and a bottom layer of nanowires affixed to the surface and a top-most layer of nanowires. A nanowire within a laminar layer is oriented substantially parallel to another nanowire within the same laminar layer. Nanowires within adjacent laminar layers are not substantially parallel to one another. The top-most layer of nanowires has a refractive index of about 5% to about 70% of the refractive index of the bottom layer of nanowires, and the refractive index of the three or more laminar layers of nanowires is decreases by about 10% or more per laminar layer from the bottom layer of nanowires to the top-most layer of nanowires.

Abstract: A protective jacketing-insulation composite structure and method is provided for inhibiting the corrosion of a pipeline. The method includes forming a porous-insulation into an elongated-arcuate-shape, applying a sodium silicate solution layer to the insulation and at least partially within the pores thereof, permitting the sodium silicate solution layer to set to a threshold amount, adhering an outer facing to the sodium silicate solution layer after the permitting step is accomplished, installing the insulation and facing to the outer surface of a pipeline, and sealing any exposed edges or seams that may exist between multiple installed products. A structure such as made from this method can have a release layer and contact adhesive.
Abstract: The waterproof/breathable moisture transfer liner for a snowboard boot includes an inner liner selected from technically advanced fabrics which are carefully selected. A series of layers are provided outside the inner liner including foam material layers, breathable membranes, a supportive mesh or a moldable foam, and an outer shell fabric. The applicability of the liner to alpine, cross country and hiking boots, along with appropriate variations for each application.
Abstract: A method for producing a multi-layer plastic film comprising at least one compact cover layer and at least one layer which is arranged under the cover layer and made of extruded foamed plastic (foam layer), wherein the compact cover layer is connected to the foam layer thermally or by adhesion after extrusion and cooling of the foam layer to below the melting temperature. The layer made of foamed plastic is generated by blowing a propellent which is under positive pressure into a plastic melt during the extrusion process and by subsequently relaxing the propellent which is under positive pressure, wherein the foamed plastic is at first not cross-linked and is cross-linked together with the compact cover layer, in particular by high-energy radiation, only after the foam layer and the compact cover layer have been connected.

Abstract: Described herein are methods of preparing superhydrophobic and oleophobic surfaces by grafting poly(perfluoroalkyl acrylate) chains on silicon substrates with initiated chemical vapor deposition. The grafting enhances the formation of the crystalline phase. The crystalline structures reduce the polymer chain mobility, resulting in nonwetting surfaces with respect to both water and mineral oil.

Abstract: A thermoplastic architectural composite laminate material can include a light transmissive skin, a thermoplastic backing, an adhesive layer and an ink image. The adhesive layer can be between the light transmissive skin and the thermoplastic backing. The ink image can be printed between the light transmissive skin and the thermoplastic backing such that the ink image is visible through the outer surface. The composite laminate materials can be designed with improved temperature fluctuation tolerance, long-term moisture resistance, and tensile and peel strength. Further, the ink image in conjunction with certain adhesives can be highly durable. Such ink images can have a convincing appearance of natural materials such as marble, granite, wood, and the like, including wet-out and depth appearance which can be tailored in appearance and colors.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a composite foam material that is alkaline and heat resistance. The composite foam material comprises a foam layer that having a film layer attached thereto and in which at least one of the film or foam layers includes a carbon free radical scavenger agent that is dispersed therein. The carbon free radical scavengers neutralize free radicals that are generated in the polymeric material (e.g., film or foam layer) and help prevent the degradation of the foam composite material. In particular, foam composite materials in accordance with the present invention can be used in underlayment applications in which exposure to heat can degrade the underlayment. As a result, the durability and useful life of the composite sheet material can be extended. In some embodiments of the present invention provides a floor underlayment material that overcomes many of the problems discussed above.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a production method for an ultra-low-dielectric-constant film, in which ratios are optimised in a mixed solution having a matrix consisting of a poly (alkyl silsesquioxane) copolymer and a porogen represented by Chemical formula 1, and in which this mixed solution is subjected to ultraviolet curing during a heat treatment. The ultra-low-dieletric-constant film of the present invention can be used as an intermediate insulating film for next generation semiconductors instead of the SiO2 dielectric films currently used, since pores of from 1 to 3 nm are uniformly distributed at from 10 to 30% and a very high degree of mechanical elasticity of from 10.5 to 19 GPa is achieved at a low dielectric constant from 2.12 to 2.4.

Abstract: Nanoporous polymers with gyroid nanochannels can be fabricated from the self-assembly of degradable block copolymer, polystyrene-b-poly(L-lactide) (PS-PLLA), followed by the hydrolysis of PLLA blocks. A well-defined nanohybrid material with SiO2 gyroid nanostructure in a PS matrix can be obtained using the nanoporous PS as a template for the sol-gel reaction. After subsequent UV degradation of the PS matrix, a highly porous inorganic gyroid network remains, yielding a single-component material with an exceptionally low refractive index (as low as 1.1).

Abstract: By engineering thermal spray parameters, such as temperature and velocity, and engineering feedstock powder size and morphology, ceramic coatings may be produced having desired mechanical and thermal properties. The ceramic thermal spray coating may have a microstructure having about 10-80% by cross-sectional area of a particulate phase based on, surface area of the coating, and the particulate phase is uniformly distributed throughout the coating. The particulate phase is an unmelted portion of the thermal sprayed feedstock, which is highly porous and may be produced by agglomerating nanoparticles of the ceramic. Such coatings can be applied as TBCs or as abradable coatings.

Abstract: An organic/inorganic composite coating film comprising an inorganic material as a matrix and an organic material combined therewith. The coating film has a regular hollow structure therein, and the coating film surface has a rugged pattern with semispherical protrusions. Also provided is a large-area structural color film obtained by burning the composite coating film. The organic/inorganic composite coating film is obtained by applying an aqueous coating composition comprising a metal alkoxide, an aqueous dispersion of monodisperse polymer particles, and an acid catalyst to a substrate and curing the coating composition. Burning the organic/inorganic composite coating film gives the structural color film.

Abstract: A white film for a reflecting structure for surface light sources, which contains voids inside it and has a light stabilizer-containing coating film formed on at least one surface of it, is aged little with time and its brightness lowers little even when used for a long time. The white film ensures good image quality of display screens for a long time, and it is favorable to reflecting sheets and reflectors in edge light-type and direct back light-type surface light sources for liquid crystal display screens.
