Patent number: 5746783Abstract: A method and matter of composition for controlling NO.sub.x emissions from existing diesel engines. The method is achieved by adding a small amount of material to the diesel fuel to decrease the amount of NO.sub.x produced during combustion. Patent number: 5284492Abstract: An improved lubricity water and fuel oil emulsion is presented. The emulsion is used as fuel for an electric power generating turbine, and includes a lubricity additive selected from the group consisting of dimer acids, trimer acids, phosphate esters, sulfurized castor oil, and mixtures thereof. Also included is a method for improving the combustion efficiency of a turbine, using the inventive additives.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1992Date of Patent: February 8, 1994Assignee: Nalco Fuel TechInventor: Leonard Dubin

Patent number: 5259851Abstract: A hybrid fuel composition in the form of a stable water-in-oil microemulsion comprises a liquid hydrocarbon fuel, water, a glycolipid surfactant and a vicinal aliphatic diol co-surfactant. The hydrocarbon fuel can be a liquid fuel for autotraction such as gasoline or diesel fuel, or a liquid hydrocarbon fuel for domestic or industrial heating, such as gas oil, naphtha, kerosene and fuel oils in general.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1991Date of Patent: November 9, 1993Assignee: Eniricerche S.p.A.Inventors: Calogero Genova, Rosario Pappa

Patent number: 5176814Abstract: A heat source, may be on a high speed vehicle, may be cooled by transferring thermal energy from the heat source to an endothermic fuel decomposition catalyst in order to heat the catalyst to a temperature sufficient to crack or dissociate at least a portion of an endothermic fuel stream. The endothermic fuel is selected from the group consisting of normal paraffinic hydrocarbons and methanol. The heated endothermic fuel decomposition catalyst is contacted with the endothermic fuel stream at a liquid hourly space velocity of at least about 10 hr.sup.-1 to cause the endothermic fuel stream to crack or dissociate into a reaction product stream.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1991Date of Patent: January 5, 1993Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventors: Louis J. Spadaccini, Pierre J. Marteney, Meredith B. Colket, III, Alvin B. Stiles

Patent number: 5156652Abstract: Stable oil-in-water emulsions for pipeline transmission are formed at a temperature of from about 100.degree. F. to about 200.degree. F. preferably using at least one ethoxylated alkylphenol compound and a freezing point depressant for water to enable pipeline transmission at temperatures below the freezing point of water.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1989Date of Patent: October 20, 1992Assignee: Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd.Inventors: Armand A. Gregoli, Andrew M. Olah
