Abstract: An access cover for a receptacle fitting includes a cover plate connectable to the fitting at a location overlying a receptacle carried by the fitting. An access door includes a first portion slidably connected to the cover plate for movement between open and closed positions. The access door also includes a second portion having a first end pivotally connected to the access door first portion. The second end of the door second portion pivots to a first position overlying the receptacle in response to movement of the access door first portion towards its closed position, and pivots to a second position at which the receptacle is exposed and accessible through the cover plate in response to movement of the access door first portion towards its open position. Pivot features are formed on the cover plate and/or the access door for imparting rotational forces on the door second portion as the door first portion is slid between its open and closed positions.

Abstract: A high impact resistant rotationally molded door and process for molding the door has the hinge post integrally attached to the rotationally molded skin of the door. A hinge member is provided that has a perforate U-shaped metal sheet bonded to preferably the upper portion of the hinge post. The sides of the U-shaped metal sheet are spaced sufficiently apart so that registration with the subsequently rotationally molded plastic skin of the door occurs. This hinge member at the perforate metal sheet rapidly heats during rotational molding. The perforate metal thus bonds to integrally mold with the skin of the door. This bonding occurs as the hinge post is molded within the hollow door construction along its hinging edge. The hinge member attaches at the perforate U-shaped metal sheet to the skin of the door while all other portions of the hinge post are free to move with respect to the door. The door is thus formed without door warping during curing and shrinking of rotationally molded plastic door body.

Abstract: A gate includes a gate panel mounted on a post which provides a horizontal pivot where the pivot axis is at right angles to the gate panel and adjacent or at a bottom corner of the gate panel. The gate is carried on one side of the post so that the gate can be pulled in pivotal movement around the horizontal pivot axis so that the gate raises and folds inwardly beyond the mounting pivot to a retracted position standing up alongside the post. A winch assembly attached to the support beyond the post provides a cable which attaches to the panel at a position spaced outwardly and upwardly from the pivot so as to pull the panel to the raised position. A spring coiled at the pivot biases the panel to a mid point of its movement.

Abstract: A window assembly for buses and other vehicles in which a frameless window pane is mounted on a smaller mounting frame that provides a marginal portion of the window overhanging and concealing the backframe and bus wall, so that a row of such windows can be mounted in edge-to-edge relation for a streamlined “all glass” look. The mounting frame is Z-shaped in cross-section and joined to the window pane by an adhesive joint formed by double-sided adhesive tape, and the assembly has an egress frame that is hinged along the top to the backframe and secured by quick-release fasteners to the mounting frame. An alternative embodiment has an insulated glass construction in which a laminated pane smaller than the outer window pane is adhesively secured to the inside of the latter by a spacer that seals the insulating air space and supports the laminated pane.

Abstract: A flush-mounted articulated window assembly for use in a vehicle, the window assembly adapted to be mounted in a window opening such that, when closed, it is generally flush with the exterior surface of the vehicle. The window assembly includes a transparent sheet with at least one window-mounting member bonded by two separate adhesives to an inner surface of the sheet. The mounting member includes projections which space the mounting member from the inner sheet surface, and/or perforations which allow air and moisture to reach the space provided between the mounting member and the inner sheet surface. A first adhesive temporarily fixtures the mounting member to the sheet. A second adhesive permanently bonds the mounting member to the inner sheet surface. The bond created is sufficiently strong such that application of a load sufficient to cause a failure results in a failure other than in the adhesion of the adhesive to the mounting member and the panel.

  • Patent number: 6345415
Abstract: A hinge assembly has a hinge door that is pivotally mounted to a hinge base. The door has a flat body with a pair of square tabs extending laterally from one end. The hinge base has a flat frame with a rectangular aperture. A pair of parallel, rigid flanges extend from the aperture in the frame. Each flange has an entry hole that leads into a diagonal slot. The slots terminate in circular recesses. The hinge door is installed in the hinge base to form the assembly by initially positioning the tabbed end of the door diagonally in the aperture. The tabs are then elevated slightly above the frame and rotated into alignment with the entry holes. The door is angled into alignment with the diagonal slots and lowered in that plane. This motion causes the tabs to move past the entry holes, through the slots, and into the circular recesses to form the hinge assembly. The recesses closely receive the tabs on the door to allow pivotal motion therebetween.
