Abstract: A leak locating shingle comprises a body portion of the shingle with three tabs extending from a lower edge of the shingle. The upper corners of the body portion are trimmed at an angle. When two leak locating shingles are placed side by side, a water-trapping groove is created where the trimmed upper corners meet. If a leak occurs, water runs along the top edge of a shingle, until it encounters a water-trapping groove where the flow of the water trail is interrupted, due to the loss of a continuous path along the upper edge of the shingles. As water accumulates in the water-trapping groove, any water overflow occurs at the bottom of the water-trapping groove, causing the water to run over the top of the shingles. This limits the range of the water trail, and allows roof repair workers to more easily locate and repair the leak.

The starter block used in the starter course of a roofing project to facilitate the positioning the shingles upon a hip roof without causing said the shingles to bend. In one embodiment, the starter block and shingles are formed from a composite material, such as a combination of at least a polymer component and a filler component. The at least one course of shingles are positioned to lie flat on and at least partially overlap the course of starter blocks with the shingles extending back to the upper surface of the roof without substantially bending.

Abstract: A ridge ventilation system includes a plurality of ridge vent sections configured to be arranged end-to-end along the ridge of a roof covering a vent slot formed therealong. Each ridge vent section has an elongated longitudinally flexible top panel with a central portion, edge portions terminating at extreme edges of the top panel, and ventilation grids extending beneath and along the edge portions spaced from extreme edges thereof. The space between the extreme edges of the top panel and the ventilation grids forms or defines an overhang configured to receive edges of shingles in a course of shingles installed next to the vent section and to inhibit the edges of the shingles from rising up. The ridge vent sections also have depending deflectors for deflecting blowing rain and snow that might enter through the ventilation grids and filter fabric may be affixed to the bottom of the ridge vent sections to provide additional deflection of rain and snow.

Abstract: A method of securing an installed metal roof deck covered with at least one layer of insulation and/or sealer. The metal roof deck is supported by a plurality of parallel metal beams. Access holes are drilled through the insulation and/or sealer at opposite ends of a beam. Self-drilling, self-tapping screws are positioned through the pilot holes and turned through the metal roof and beams. A guide is used to drill additional access holes aligned with valleys in the metal roof deck. Self-drilling, self-tapping screws are drilled through the metal roof and beams. When no access is available for visual inspection of the deck and or the beams, the same locating process is followed in a “Blindly”, or by “Feel” way.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments of foam backing panels for use with lap siding and configured for mounting on a building. Also disclosed are lap siding assemblies and products of lap sidings. One such embodiment of the foam backing panel comprises a rear face configured to contact the building, a front face configured for attachment to the lap siding, alignment means for aligning the lap siding relative to the building, means for providing a shadow line, opposing vertical side edges, a top face extending between a top edge of the front face and rear face and a bottom face extending between a bottom edge of the front face and rear face. The foam backing panel has alternating high density portions and low density portions. Fasteners used to attach the foam back panel to an exterior wall pass through the high density portions.

Abstract: A plastic molded wall covering that includes a plurality of one piece plastic molded corner moldings mounted in a vertically stacked array. The corner moldings each have a pair of front panels disposed at an angle to each other and formed with simulated building elements, such as hand laid stone. The corner moldings have respective upper and lower interlock devices and internal support and reinforcing walls extending rearwardly of the front panels in interconnecting relation to the interlock devices. The internal support and reinforcing walls have a curved serpentine configuration with a curved junction line with the respective front panels such that any plastic molded sink mark exposed on a front side of the front panels from the integrally formed internal walls similarly is undulating so as to blend into the simulated building elements and not detract from its natural appearance.
