  • Patent number: 7393886
Abstract: A superior cement dispersant and a concrete composition containing the cement dispersant, the cement dispersant being a water-soluble amphoteric copolymer which contains an alkylene oxide adduct of a polyamide polyamine having an unsaturated group and at least two types of polyalkylene glycol ester. When the cement dispersant is compounded with a concrete composition, the dispersion performance thereof increases with time, and the concrete viscosity is effectively decreased. The cement dispersant composition contains a water-soluble amphoteric copolymer or the neutralized salt thereof as an essential component, which is obtained by copolymerizing an alkylene oxide adduct of a polyamide polyamine having an unsaturated group, (meta)acrylic acid or an alkali metal, ammonium, or alkanolamine salt thereof, an ester of an alkylene glycol and methacrylic acid, and an ester of an alkylene glycol and acrylic acid. In addition, the concrete composition containing the above cement dispersant is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7350574
Abstract: Methods of retarding the setting of a cement composition comprise including one or more secondary amines substituted with a carboxyl group or salts thereof (e.g., 3-hydroxy N,N?-iminodisuccinic acid) in the cement composition. The inclusion of such materials in cement compositions may be highly beneficial. In wellbores having BHCT's of less than or equal to about 250° F., the use of the secondary amine as the set retarder ensures that the thickening time of the cement composition is sufficient to allow the cement composition to be pumped to its desired downhole location. Further, the secondary amine may be used in combination with conventional set retarders to enhance the ability of those retarders to increase the thickening time of the cement composition at higher BHCT's, e.g., from about 250° F. to about 525° F.

Abstract: A polymer-cement composite comprises, by weight percent, about 40% to 50% inert, inorganic filler material, such as silica sand; about 12% to 23% latex, preferably in aqueous suspension; about 20% to 25% hydraulic cement; and about 7% to 13% reactive silica. The reactive silica is a pozzolanic material, and in preferred embodiments, where the cement is portland cement, comprises an advantageous mixture of precipitated and ground silica. All solid components have a particle size of less than about 300 microns. The polymer-cement composite is preferably made by dry mixing of the powdered components throughly in a high intensity mixer, adding the liquid components, and wet mixing to form a thoroughly blended, de-aired green mixture. The green mixture is formed into any desired shape, cured, and dried. Preferably, the product is cured in a warm, moist environment.

Abstract: A method of making a grout composition which reduces the amount of bleed water from grout used in bonded post-tensioned concrete applications is provided. The method includes forming the grout composition by combining copolymers with other materials into a hydraulic cementitious composition. The copolymers are formed from structural components a) to c) and optionally d) which are mono-unsaturated compounds, with a generally linear macromolecular structure. By reducing the amount of bleed water in bonded post-tensioned concrete applications the grout composition provides protection from corrosion for the steel members, including stranded tendons and solid bars. The reduction in the amount of bleed water is achieved without significantly increasing the viscosity of the grout mixture thereby allowing good pumpability, placement, and maintenance of other properties such as resistance to volume change, long working time and acceptable strength development.
