Abstract: A cementitious formulation comprising a cement and an oligomeric dispersant is provided. The dispersant is a reaction product of two or three moieties. The first moiety (A) is a nonpolymeric, functional moiety that adsorbs onto a particle, and wherein one or more A moieties together contain at least two residues to provide attachment of the dispersant onto a particle to be dispersed. The second required moiety (C) is a linear or branched water soluble, nonionic polymer that provides the dispersing capability. A third moiety (B), if present, is a nonpolymeric moiety disposed between the first and second moiety, to connect the first and second moieties. A method is provided for dispersing a cementitious formulation comprising a cement in water, including providing in said cementitious formulation the above oligomeric dispersant.

Abstract: Improved methods of cementing in subterranean zones penetrated by well bores are provided. The methods are basically comprised of the steps of preparing a cement composition comprised of a hydraulic cement, a biodegradable, substantially non-dispersing set retarder of low anionic character comprised of polysuccinimide and sufficient water to form a slurry, placing said cement composition in said subterranean zone and allowing said cement composition to set into a solid mass therein.
Abstract: The mechanical property known as “strength at young ages” of cement matrices or hydraulic binders may be significantly improved by adding dispersions of mineral fillers and dispersing agents. Abstract: Admixture or additive which provides water-repellency and flexural bond strength improvement in mortar, concrete, or cement, and particularly in masonry mortars. Abstract: A composition for and a method of promoting the flow of a concrete slurry through a pump and a conduit is provided. The composition is a dry particulate mixture comprised of a water soluble, inorganic material and a solvatable, organic polymer. The composition, when mixed with a suitable quantity of water, is useful in a method of priming a pump used to pump a concrete slurry. Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there are provided novel fiber reinforced building material formulations, comprised of an inorganic binding agent and synthetic fibers. The fibrous material employed in invention formulations is capable of undergoing progressive fibrillation upon agitation. As a result, fibers of lower initial aspect ratios, and higher addition rates than previously possible are disclosed, herein. Formulations containing Portland cement-based compositions and fibrillating synthetic fibers are also contemplated. In addition, there are provided methods of producing fiber reinforced building materials, including Portland cement-based compositions, and articles produced therefrom.

Abstract: A high temperature thermal insulation has a dry mixture which includes cement, gypsum and a special particulate material having small particles which exhibit good insulating properties. The particles have a low density polymeric core covered by a chemically inert coating such as calcium carbonate. A special liquid catalyst is added to the dry mixture to cause the particles to be bound together with the cement and gypsum. The cement and gypsum cover and protect the particles from melting due to elevated temperatures, and the particles are thus able to resist heat transfer in high temperature applications.

Abstract: Powdered and liquid fluid loss additives are disclosed for use in cementing wellbores, particularly oil and gas wellbores. Excellent fluid loss control is achieved over a wide range of conditions using various cements systems. The invention utilizes polyvinyl acetate polymers as a fluid loss additive. The polyvinyl acetate polymer is used in conjunction with a dispersing sulfonated polymer and surfactant. This highly effective combination is then adjusted to individual well conditions with chelating agent, cross-linking agent, biocides, antifoams, or combinations of these. The dispersants are novel dispersing agent polymers such as melamine sulfonate polymer, vinyl sulfonate polymer and styrene sulfonate polymer and mixtures of these. These dispersant materials are usually prepared at low pH and can be used in the acid form, or neutralized to form salts of the polymers, wherein the salt can be a Group I or Group II metal salt, or ammonium salts (common salts).

The calcium salt, preferably calcium nitrite, and the copolymer can be added simultaneously as one admixture, or separately. The invention relates also to methods for enhancing high early strength in concrete, cement, masonry, and mortar mixtures generally, and to precast concrete particarly, and also pertains to such hydraulic mixtures containing the calcium salt and copolymer.

Abstract: A water-borne polyurethane modified cement composition is prepared from a dispersion of a water-dispersible polyurethane, a cross-linking agent, which is a polycarbodimide having N.dbd.C.dbd.N functional groups, and cement. Optionally, a water-reducing agent, and a surfactant can be added. The modified cement composition has higher tensile strength, elongation, and water resistance.

Abstract: A method for producing cement useful for preparing pastes, mortars, concretes and other cement-based materials, having a high workability with reduced water content, high strength and density, and a rapid development of strength, which method includes a mechanicochemical treatment of cement. The method includes a two-stage mechanicochemical treatment of a mixture of cement and at least one of two components, the first component being a SiO.sub.2 -containing microfiller and the second component being a polymer in the form of a powdery water-reducing agent. In the first stage the cement and the first and/or the second component are intensively mixed in a dry state, whereby particles of the first and/or the second component are adsorbed on the cement particles.

Abstract: A coating composition giving a fresco-like appearance when mixed with a cement based plaster comprises a latex polymer binder, acrylic polymer binder, or two acrylic polymer cross-linking binders, particulate matter and chemical agents. The plaster composition preferably comprises 35 to 45 percent by weight cement based plaster; 50 to 60 percent by weight coating composition, 2 to 8 percent by weight colorant. A method for preparing a the plaster composition and a plaster wall, ceiling, or other surface comprised of the plaster composition applied to an appropriate wall, ceiling, or surface is also disclosed.

Abstract: Powdered and liquid fluid loss additives are disclosed for use in cementing wellbores, particularly oil and gas wellbores. Excellent fluid loss control is achieved over a wide range of conditions using various cements systems. The invention utilizes polyvinyl acetate polymers as a fluid loss additive. The polyvinyl acetate polymer is used in conjunction with a dispersing sulfonated polymer and surfactant. This highly effective combination is then adjusted to individual well conditions with chelating agent, cross-linking agent, biocides, antifoams, or combinations of these. The dispersants are novel dispersing agent polymers such as melamine sulfonate polymer, vinyl sulfonate polymer and styrene sulfonate polymer and mixtures of these. These dispersant materials are usually prepared at low pH and can be used in the acid form, or neutralized to form salts of the polymers, wherein the salt can be a Group I or Group II metal salt, or ammonium salts (common salts).
