Abstract: The subject invention provides a drug delivery device for injecting medicament which includes: a tubular reservoir; a stopper slidably disposed in the reservoir; a spring for moving the stopper in the reservoir; at least one needle, the needle having a distal end for insertion into a patient, and a lumen extending proximally from the distal end, the lumen being in direct or indirect communication with the reservoir; a needle driver for displacing the needle; and, an actuator. Activation of the actuator causes the spring to move the stopper and the needle driver to displace the needle. The needle moves relative to, and separately from, the reservoir with the needle being displaced. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a drug delivery device is provided wherein a needle is moved, relative to the reservoir, in being displaced for injection. Abstract: The present invention generally provides a device for inserting needles and alleviating the discomfort associated with needle insertion. In certain embodiments, the device is suited for injecting butterfly needles and particularly butterfly needles that are attached to infusion tubing. The patient or caregiver loads a butterfly needle with tubing attached into the base of the drive plunger. The needle with tubing attached is retracted into the housing of the device by retracting the inner plunger. Once retracted, the device is activated and ready to administer a needle into the tissue of a patient. The device is then placed on the location of the skin where injection is desired. The surface that contacts the skin may be textured and may include a contact switch that causes the device to vibrate when slight pressure is applied through contact with the skin.

Abstract: The various embodiments described herein relate to fabricating and using open microfluidic networks according to methods, systems, and devices that can be used in applications ranging from home-testing, diagnosis, and research laboratories. Open microfluidic networks allow the input, handling, and extraction of fluids or components of the fluid into or out of the open microfluidic network. Fluids can be inserted into an open microfluidic channel by using open sections of the open microfluidic network. Passive valves can be created in the microfluidic network, allowing the creation of logic circuits and conditional flow and volume valves. The fluid can be presented via the microfluidic network to diagnostic and analysis components. Fluids and components of the fluid can be extracted from the open microfluidic network via functional open sections that are easily interfaced with other microfluidic networks or common laboratory tools.

Abstract: The pharmaceutical injection device of the present invention comprises a cartridge holder, a main case, a piston, a motor, an opening component, an open/closed detection switch, and a controller. The motor drives the piston in either an insertion direction in which the piston is inserted into a pharmaceutical cartridge, or a pull-out direction in which the piston is pulled out of the pharmaceutical cartridge. The opening component opens the cartridge holder in conjunction with the movement of the piston in the pull-out direction. The open/closed detection switch detects whether the cartridge holder is open or closed. When the open/closed detection switch detects that the cartridge holder is open, the controller controls the motor so as to stop the piston.

  • Patent number: 9940440
Abstract: A total dose of a therapeutic agent to be delivered to a patient by an infusion device over a total period of time is automatically divided into a plurality of unit doses to be delivered to the patient over a plurality of unit periods of time. The infusion device is automatically programmed to deliver one of the unit doses of the therapeutic agent to the patient over its respective unit period of time, after which the one unit dose is delivered, and a determination is made of whether an error occurred in delivering the one unit dose to the patient. Delivery of the total dose of the therapeutic agent to the patient may include iteratively automatically programming the infusion device to deliver successive unit doses upon determining that no error occurred in delivering a previous unit dose to the patient. Accordingly, the risk of improperly dosing the patient with the therapeutic agent in an event of a software or hardware anomaly within the infusion device is prevented or reduced.

  • Patent number: 9913943
Abstract: A trigger assembly for an automatic injection device which by its operation releases a biased element of the device for movement. The trigger assembly includes a button pressable by a user, and a lock member. Prior to the button being plunged, a blocking element on the button is abutted by a button-engaging surface of the lock member to prevent lock member rotation, thereby allowing an engagement surface on the lock member to remain in engagement with an engagement surface of the biased element so as to restrain motion of the biased element. When the button is plunged, the blocking surface moves clear of the button-engaging surface to allow the lock member to rotate, during which rotation the engagement surfaces disengage to release the biased element for movement.

Abstract: A system, method or apparatus to detect abnormalities in delivery of a fluid may include an infusion apparatus that is controllable to cause one or more perturbations in a fluid flow (e.g., each of the one or more perturbations in the fluid flow may result in a measurable perturbed force response). A force signal representative of the perturbed force response may be used to determine an integrated perturbed force response value (e.g., using integration of the force signal over a perturbation time period; the integrated perturbed force response value being representative of an additional force caused by the at least one perturbation over an equilibrium force). A ratio between the integrated perturbed force response value and a normalizing value (e.g., based at least on a maximum perturbation force of the perturbed force response) may be used to determine if fluid flow is occluded.
