Generic Control System, Apparatus Or Process Patents (Class 700/1)
  • Patent number: 7375035
Abstract: A host and ancillary tool interface methodology for distributed processing is described. The host tool manages a process, except for the generation of a product used in the process. To generate the product, the host tool provides an indication to an ancillary tool that the product is to be generated, and the ancillary tool generates the product after detection of the indication with no further intervention by the host tool. To provide the indication, the host tool preferably activates a control line whose voltage is monitored by the ancillary tool, or alternatively, sets one or more bits in a memory which is periodically checked by the ancillary tool.

Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling processes related to the amount of fluid in a container subjected to externally-excited motions. Fluid level sensor measurements in processing tanks on-board boats are confused by ocean waves and swells. A hydrodynamic model of a fluid in a tank can be constructed using non-linear dynamic model algorithms with inputs such as multi-axis accelerations, fluid viscosity, and apparent level measurements. The model can be used to filter-out boat motion disturbances to obtain a corrected level of the fluid in the tank. The corrected fluid level signal can be further processed using a dynamic model of the tank and associated input and output flow rates in a closed loop observer. The methods and systems are especially advantageous for offshore equipment such as cementing and fracturing ships.

Abstract: A clutch mechanism includes clutch members having an engaged position, in which torque generated by a drive is transmitted to an output, and a disengaged position, in which torque is not transmitted to the output. The clutch members are capable of slipping with respect to each other in order to prevent damage caused by overload conditions. The clutch mechanism further comprises an actuator associated with a clutch member. If the clutch members slip and a characteristic associated with slipping of the clutch members, such as the temperature rise of the slipping surfaces or the relative rotational speed of the clutch members is above a predetermined value, transmission of torque to the output is interrupted. The clutch mechanism is particularly suited for inclusion in a drive mechanism for the agitator of a surface treating appliance, such as a vacuum cleaner.

Abstract: Data is collected about samples that possess characteristics that change over time and that are contained in any array of containers arranged in a container spatial relationship. A matrix of cells is displayed in a cell spatial relationship corresponding to the container spatial relationship. The matrix user interface allows a user to enter a large number of data points per minute, compared to conventional systems, which may require a user to swipe a bar code, enter an indicia, or enter a row/column position prior to entering data. Data collection of characteristics of samples also can be scheduled, by storing past values of the characteristics of the samples and also storing rules in a rule base. The rules determine whether a characteristic of a sample is to be data collected and, if so, identify the characteristic which is to be data collected, based on the past values of characteristics of samples.

  • Publication number: 20080071389
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for the automated real-time collection, extraction, transformation, analysis and presentation of statistical process control (SPC) information. One or more monitored systems or processes generate operational process control information that is stored in its native form. An SPC system iteratively accesses this information, transforms it as required, and performs statistical processing to generate database tables, control charts and other predetermined forms of data output. The statistical processing output is then extracted by an automated SPC data extraction system in real-time. The extracted data is placed in a data wrapper and submitted, likewise in real-time, to one or more statistical analysis systems or models, which process the data to derive new specification limits. The new specification limits are applied to monitored systems and processes resulting in the generation of new operational measurements, which are in turn collected and processed.

Abstract: A system and method for providing increased availability of input/output (I/O) drawers during concurrent I/O hub repair are provided. The illustrative embodiments provide an alternative cabling scheme between an I/O planar and a plurality of I/O hubs that facilitates the I/O drawers being available even when an I/O hub fails. With this cabling scheme, a hypervisor or other virtualization mechanism configures routing tables in the firmware of the host system to cause data to be sent/received through the I/O hubs. In the event of a failure of an I/O hub, the routing tables may be updated by the hypervisor to utilize a different I/O hub coupled to the I/O drawer. By virtue of the modified cabling scheme of the illustrative embodiments, such updating of the routing tables allows I/O operations to continue at a single loop, or single barrel, throughput via the other I/O hub.

Abstract: In allocating processing units of a computer system to generate simulated diffraction signals used in optical metrology, a request for a job to generate simulated diffraction signals using multiple processing units is obtained. A number of processing units requested for the job to generate simulated diffraction signals is then determined. A number of available processing units is determined. When the number of processing units requested is greater than the number of available processing units, a number of processing units is assigned to generate the simulated diffraction signals that is less than the number of processing units requested.

Abstract: There is described a method and a system allowing the use of at least one resource of a first automation system in at least one second automation system, whereby the resource is made available by the first automation system and an identification characteristic is used for the unique identification of the resource in the at least second automation system. A user is enabled to navigate in a simple manner between the application locations of originator and user of a resource. This is achieved by the fact that the use of the resource of the first automation system in the at least second automation system is mapped as a bilateral reference in each case between the automation systems and is stored in each case in a storage area in the automation systems, whereby the bilateral reference also contains application locations of the resource in the respective automation system.

Abstract: A method and system for quantifying and correcting spatial-intensity trends for each channel of a microarray data set having one or more channels. The method and system of one embodiment of the present invention selects a set of features from each channel of the microarray data set. Based on the selected set of features, a surface is used to determine the intensities for all features in each channel of the microarray data set. Spatial-intensity trends within the microarray data set are quantified, based on the surface to the intensities for each channel of the microarray data set. After the surface has been determined, the spatial-intensity trend can be removed from the microarray data set.

Abstract: A system and method of fluctuation enhanced gas-sensing using SAW devices includes processes for improved chemical analyte detection, identification, and quantification through the measurement and spectral analysis of frequency fluctuations in the instantaneous frequency of a chemical sensor arranged to produce an oscillatory output signal when exposed to chemical substances. The system and method may use a chemical sensor, such as a surface acoustic wave (SAW) device. The spectral analysis produces the power spectral density of the frequency fluctuations, which are represented as a pattern that includes information about the analyte(s) such as, total adsorbed gas mass and diffusion coefficients. The diffusion coefficients may then be used to determine the number of molecule types and/or the concentration of each.
