  • Patent number: 7200495
Abstract: Devices and techniques for estimating the concentration of one or more agents in a fluid environment employ a plurality of measurements of a sensor attribute that changes in response to an agent. Measurements taken before the agent/reagent combination reaches a steady-state may be used. The plurality of measurements are processed using a nonlinear, parametric model of the interaction between the sensor and the agent to determine the concentration of the agent. The model takes into account the finite capacity of a sensor reagent. The model characterizes the interaction of individual agent/reagent combinations with a set of parameters. These parameters require minimal testing to calculate. The invention enables the response of a sensor to an agent over the entire range of agent concentration levels to be efficiently and accurately characterized. The invention also enables the prediction of collective responses given parameters characterizing a plurality of agent/reagent combinations.

  • Patent number: 7110888
Abstract: I describe several techniques for characterizing molecules based on the shapes of their fields. The minimal distance between two molecular fields is used as a shape-based metric, independent of the underlying chemical structure, and a high-dimensional shape space description of the molecules is generated. I then show how these attributes can be used in creating, characterizing, and searching databases of molecules based on field similarity. In particular, they allow searches of a database in sublinear time. Next, I extend the utility of this approach by describing a way to automatically break molecules into a series of fragments by using an ellipsoidal Gaussian decomposition. Not only can these fragments then be analyzed by the shape metric technique described above, but the parameters of the decomposition themselves can also be used to further organize and search databases. The most immediate application of these techniques is to pharmaceutical drug discovery and design.

  • Patent number: 7062332
Abstract: If it becomes necessary to add, to a past device information list (past list), a record of device information of a target removed from a network, and if the number of records in the past list is already at its maximum so that it is impossible to store any more records in the past list, a microprocessor of a controller decides the priority of the removed target, based on device information of the removed target and on information of the kind of controller as stored in a configuration ROM in the controller. From records stored in the past list, the microprocessor searches for a record having a priority lower than the priority of the removed target, one by one in order from the first record therein. If the microprocessor finds a record having such a lower priority, the microprocessor deletes from the past list such record having been first found, and adds to the past list a record of the device information regarding the removed target.

  • Patent number: 7050859
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods to port controller state and context via non-volatile portable memory to controllers employing an open operating system. The present invention provides for saving a controller's state and context, for example after the controller has been suitably configured. The saved image can then be employed for subsequent controller startups to resume a particular state and context, utilized during maintenance to return a controller to a previously saved state and context, and employed to efficiently configure similar controllers via porting and/or loading the saved image to the similar controllers, which mitigates manual controller configuration. The present invention can be employed in connection with various industrial controller designs, memory configurations, and data transfer techniques. In addition, the present invention provides for serial and/or concurrent state and context transfers between controllers and memory devices.

  • Patent number: 7035739
Abstract: A method for associating a gene with a trait exhibited by one or more organisms in a plurality of organisms from a species. A genetic marker map is constructed from a set of genetic markers associated with the plurality of organisms. For each gene in a plurality of genes, a quantitative trait locus analysis is performed using the genetic marker map and a quantitative trait. The quantitative trait locus analysis produces quantitative trait locus data. A quantitative trait comprises an expression statistic for a gene. The expression statistic for a gene is derived from a cellular constituent level that corresponds to the gene in each organism in the plurality of organisms. The quantitative trait locus data are clustered from each quantitative trait locus analysis to form a quantitative trait locus interaction map. Clusters of genes in the map are identified as a candidate pathway group. An expression cluster map is used to refine the candidate pathway group.
