Abstract: The system includes a current injection device in electrical communication with the switch mode power supply. The current injection device is positioned to alter the initial, non-zero load current when activated. A prognostic control is in communication with the current injection device, controlling activation of the current injection device. A frequency detector is positioned to receive an output signal from the switch mode power supply and is able to count cycles in a sinusoidal wave within the output signal. An output device is in communication with the frequency detector. The output device outputs a result of the dounted cycles, which are indicative of damage to an a remaining useful life of the switch mode power supply.

  • Patent number: 7317992
Abstract: A method and tooling for inspecting a contour of an edge of a cutout formed in a disk, each cutout fixedly receiving a turbine blade. A first device receives the disk containing the cutouts. A second device has a sensor associated with the movement of an instrument, the first device securing the disk at a predetermined orientation to the sensor. The disk is secured to the first device, the instrument being directed along the cutout defining a path substantially parallel to a surface of the contour, the instrument remaining in physical contact with the surface of the contour. The sensor transmits a signal associated with instrument movement to an algorithm to convert the signal to two-dimensional positions along the tangent path along the surface of the contour. The acceptability of the edge contour of the cutout is determined by comparing the two-dimensional positions to predetermined ranges of values.

Abstract: A method for processing thermography signals. A time series of radiometric data is measured from a surface (104) of an object (102) over a period of heating and subsequent cooling, and a mathematical curve (1, 2) is fit to the data. An amplitude aspect and one or more shape aspects are identified for each curve. The amplitude and shape aspects are then used together to characterize features such as defects in the object. The amplitude and shape aspects for an array of such data may be combined in a single noise-free visual display (100) by associating hue (color) with the shape-aspect and luminance (brightness) with the amplitude aspect. Optionally, a second shape aspect may be identified and associated with saturation on the display. A visible image of the object may be overlaid on the display.

Abstract: A plurality of causal ladder is assembled in advance from component system events taken from previous system failures. The ladders classify the various transitions the system goes through from one set of observed states to another in multiple stages representing issues of differing urgency, importance and need for remediation. These stages are used at runtime to determine the criticality of any abnormal system activity and to accurately predict the component failure prior to the system crashing. Each ladder comprises a plurality of elevated stages representing criticality of the problem. At runtime, the causal ladder engine correlates real-time events received from the system to stages of one or more pre-constructed causal ladders and identifies a probable problem (and/or the faulty component) from the corresponding causal ladder. The causal ladder engine also determines the stage of the problem from event occurrences. At each stage, a different potential solution is identified for the problem.

Abstract: A force-moment sensor (1) is used as a switch, with which, depending on the introduction of forces and moments onto an operating part (5) of the force-moment sensor (1), software or hardware functions of a device (2, 2?) to be controlled are triggered. For this purpose, the output signals of the force-moment sensor (1) are analysed by comparisons with threshold values. The selection of a device or a function thereof does not have to be chosen in advance, but takes place while introducing a force or a moment into the sensor. The introduced forces or moments in each degree of freedom of the sensor are analysed. The selection of the device or function coincides with the driving. The device can thus be simplified since no special facilities for selecting devices or functions must be provided. Additionally, the selection and driving are accelerated by this temporal coincidence.

Abstract: An airflow metering device, including a conventional airflow sensing device signally connected to a signal processor is shown, having an input flow signal correlatable to a magnitude of mass air flowing past the airflow sensing device. The signal processor is operable to determine a flow correction factor based upon a direction and magnitude of the mass air flowing past the airflow sensing device. The output of the airflow metering device is an accurate measure of airflow, and comprises the input flow signal of the airflow sensing device adjusted by the flow correction factor determined by the signal processor.

  • Patent number: 7171313
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for sensing impact events in reciprocating machinery. The apparatus establishes first and second reference or threshold voltages, where the second reference voltage is greater than the first reference voltage. The number of impact events (N1) in a time window that exceed the first reference voltage and the number of impact events (N2) in a time window that exceed the second reference voltage are counted and an output current is generated representative of the number of such impact events. If no impact greater than the lower threshold voltage is received during a given time window, the apparatus detects and stores a peak voltage corresponding to the impact having the greatest magnitude received during that time window. Apparatus according to the present invention produces an output current based on the magnitude of that peak voltage.

  • Patent number: 7107159
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods to used a measured driving-point response of a nonlinear material to determined one or more elastic properties of the material. The present invention takes advantage of the full information represented by the transient component, the steady-state component, the anharmonic components, and the nonlinear response components of a measured driving-point response of a real nonlinear material, without limitation in the use of large-amplitude forces. The elastic properties are determined by forming and solving a time-domain system of linear equations representing a differential equation model of the driving-point motions of the material. Based on a single, short duration, large-amplitude driving point measurement, both linear and nonlinear properties can be determined; both large-amplitude and near-zero amplitude properties can be determined; and elastic-wave speed and elastic moduli and their variation with depth can be determined.

  • Patent number: 7076320
Abstract: Systems and methods that improve process control in semiconductor manufacturing are disclosed. According to an aspect of the invention, conditions in a cluster tool environment and/or a wafer therein can be monitored in-situ via, for example, a scatterometry system, to determine whether parameters associated with wafer production are within control limits. A cluster tool environment can include, for example, a lithography track, a stepper, a plasma etcher, a cleaning tool, a chemical bath, etc. If an out-of-control condition is detected, either associated with a tool in the cluster tool environment or with the wafer itself, compensatory measures can be taken to correct the out-of-control condition. The invention can further employ feedback/feed-forward loop(s) to facilitate compensatory action in order to improve process control.
