Abstract: Creating web application using cloud-based friction-free databases without web hosting knowledge. User credentials are received at a web application service for initiating a web application task via client software. The user credentials are analyzed to determine whether to grant the user permission to initiate the requested web application task. The web application task is initiated when the permission is granted. Data associated with the initiated web application task is received at the web application service for analysis of the data to host and render a web application based solely on received data provided without basis of web hosting knowledge.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to optimize workflow execution by making intelligent decisions regarding service requests to perform workflow processes on one or more servers are provided. For some embodiments, a workflow controller may analyze a workflow definition specifying a set of tasks to be performed in order to determine if multiple tasks may be performed locally, on a common server. If so, the controller may generate a remote service to perform the multiple tasks on the common server, without requiring intermediate transfer of data between a local server on which the controller is running and the common remote server.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for permitting an upgrade of extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes, independent of a customization performed by a user. In operation, one or more ETL processes are identified. Additionally, a user is permitted to customize the one or more ETL processes. Further, an upgrade of the one or more ETL processes is permitted and enabled.

Abstract: An application that enables users to effectively utilize and manage knowledge and data the user posses and allows other users to effectively and seamlessly benefit from the user's knowledge and data over a computer network is also disclosed. A method of processing content created by a user utilizing a semantic, ontology-driven portal on a computer network is described. The semantic portal application provides the user with a content base, such as a semantic form or meta-form, for creating a semantic posting. The semantic portal utilizes a knowledge data structure, such as a taxonomy or ontology, in preparing a semantic posting based on the information provided by the user via the content base. The semantic portal application prepares a preview of a semantic posting for evaluation by the user. The semantic posting is then either modified by the user or accepted and posted by the user for external parties to view.

Abstract: A technique is provided in which, in a foreign language document in which a space character is provided for separation of words forming a document, it is possible to reliably detect each word separation and reliably reinsert a space character in the separation. It is decided whether adjacent characters are included in the same word (i.e., presence or absence of space) using: decision by an English writing rule, decision by information as to whether there is a space character in source document data; decision by the identification of character string objects including adjacent characters; and decision by a gap between the character string objects including the adjacent characters. It should be noted that it is preferable to make a decision by these processing in order of this description.

Abstract: A system is presented for structured coauthoring of a document, the system comprising a server. The server includes one or more documents organized into sections, a document permissions module that stores user access permissions for each section of a document, a document update processing module that processes requests from a user to share document updates with other users and that processes requests from a user to receive document updates from other users and a document rendering module that renders a document for display on a client so that sections of the document are updated with shared document updates made by users. The user access permissions determine the extent to which a user can modify each section of the document.

Abstract: A method for capturing an image of a machine having one or more disks is presented. The method comprises creating a snapshot of the machine, the snapshot including full machine encapsulation, querying the one or more disks on the machine to obtain information stored thereon, creating metadata able to access one or more files, one or more folders, and the application on the machine, and capturing the snapshot, the obtained information and the metadata in the image. The method may also comprise migrating the captured image and/or extracting one or more files and/or folders from the captured image on another machine. The migration can be between physical and physical, physical and virtual, physical and cloud, etc. The method may comprise capturing another image comprising the snapshot, the metadata and changed information different from the obtained information.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for identifying obsolete discussion threads. The method includes extracting keywords from a discussion thread and assigning a keyword score to each keyword. The method further includes identifying a change event that is a change affecting a topic of the forum, extracting a keyword from a recorded medium recording the change event, comparing the keyword from the recorded medium with the keywords from the discussion thread to identify a matching keyword, and reducing the keyword score of the matching keyword to a reduced score based on the matching keyword matching the keyword from the recorded medium. The method further includes aggregating the keyword score assigned to each keyword to obtain a total score for the discussion thread, and displaying a warning on a user interface that includes the discussion thread when the total score is below a pre-specified threshold.

Abstract: A method of distributing a data over a network includes protecting the data as a protected document by encryption and watermarking, controlling access to the protected document based on permissions, checking for permissions from a database, recording a record of the step of checking in the database, and accessing the protected document if allowed per permissions from the step of checking. The method collects a so-called “document thread” indicating a fingerprint of the first accessor of the data and the distributions and uses subsequently made of the data. The method is operable via a web page interface, such as through a browser of a device of the network communicatively connected to a web server of a data center. The method is alternately operable atop a document/data management system, including a client device application of a device of the network communicatively connected to the document/data management system.

Abstract: Users sharing web pages and editing shared content are forced to manually refresh their web browsers to view a latest version of the content. This can be cumbersome and may not give users a true interactive content sharing experience. Functionality for dynamic sharing of content modifications and for automatic presentation of the latest version of the content can be implemented on the web browser to ensure that the latest version of the content is always presented to the user. By automatically retrieving content modifications made by one user and transmitting the content modifications to other users viewing and editing the shared content, users can be preempted from having to manually refresh the content presented on the web browser. This can result in a more interactive content sharing experience with little or no manual intervention.

Abstract: A document management system includes a memory and a controller. The memory stores access privilege information configured to define, for each display style of a document element displayed in an electronic document, privileges of users or user groups regarding access to a document element having a display style. In response to a request from a user to perform an operation on a document element in an electronic document, the controller controls whether the operation is executed or not on the document element, using the access privilege information stored in the memory, in accordance with a privilege among privileges of the users or user groups for a display style of the document element, the privilege being a privilege of the user or a user group to which the user belongs.

Abstract: A method and system of externalized data validation. Data input to applications is received. Metadata specifying types of the received data is received. Methods to cleanse the received data are determined based on the metadata. Based on the determined methods and received metadata, a validation engine external to the applications cleanses and validates the received data. The validated data is sent to the applications for use by the applications. Via a subscription service and without requiring updates to the applications, a service provider provides dynamic updates of the validation engine to mitigate newly identified events associated with input to the applications.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system of centrally managing core enterprise reference data of an enterprise that includes one or more processing units and one or more memory units, the system includes a storage medium having stored therein a process layer that implements one or more business configuration processes of one or more enterprise-level business workflows. The system further includes a storage medium having stored therein a service layer underlying the process layer that provides services that enable process tasks for the one or more business configuration processes and a storage medium having stored therein a data layer underlying the service layer and storing in a repository, core enterprise reference data that is received from one or more external data sources using a staging strategy that reduces data transfer time between the core enterprise reference data repository and the one or more external data sources.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for providing an answer to a question left unanswered in an electronic discussion forum. In some embodiments, a question that has not been answered may be identified in a first discussion forum. A second discussion forum in which to present the question may be determined, where the second discussion forum is more likely than the first discussion forum to result in an answer to the question. The question may then be presented in the second discussion forum, and one or more responses to the question may be received in the second discussion forum. It may then be determined whether one of the one or more responses includes a good answer to the question, and when the determination is that one of the one or more responses includes a good answer, the good answer may be presented in the first discussion forum.

Abstract: A request for a document is received at a user device while in an offline state. The request includes a public uniform resource locator (URL) corresponding to a location remote from the user device. The user device launches an application that intercepts the request and selects one of multiple local caches based on the public URL. Each of the multiple local caches is associated with a private URL. The user device accesses the selected local caches via a corresponding private URL to retrieve an editor. The user device modifies a URL history to replace the private URL with a public URL and provides the document, via the editor, to the user device.

Abstract: Provided is a document management system which allows a document management server to be accessed from a document management client terminal by using a database of the document management server as a backend engine, the document management system configured to determine an appropriate access method for opening a file. In order for the document management client terminal to open a file in the document management server having an exclusive control function, the document management system accesses the document management server according to file attribute information of the file held in the document management client terminal.

Abstract: In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for storing documents that are being tracked in an on-demand service. These mechanisms and methods for storing documents in an on-demand service can enable embodiments to provide the sharing of documents and the storing of the documents in association with a tag. The ability of embodiments to provide the sharing of documents and the storing can enable an efficient searching for a shared document. In an embodiment, the shared document is categorized upon being stored.

Abstract: Some embodiments of a workflow management system to process medical image data generated by a medical imaging device have been presented. In one embodiment, a user selects a workflow template with a predefined set of image processing stages, and applies the workflow template to the medical image data. Each of the predefined set of image processing stages in the workflow template includes one or more image processing operations. Each of the image processing operations is capable of generating metadata for processing the medical image data. The medical image data is then processed through each of the predefined image processing stages. The result of processing is a collection of metadata. Each metadata in the collection can be applied to the medical image data to generate a medical image view.

Abstract: A system provides document collaboration for a plurality of users. The system divides a central document into a plurality of sections. The system then assigns edit rights for a user for one or more sections, and read-only rights for the user for one or more sections. The system then generates a customized document for the user that includes the edit rights sections and the read-only rights sections.

Abstract: A document management system includes a document. One or more of a plurality of map-files of the document correspond(s) with a step of a multi-step workflow associated with the document. A random nonce is generated for each of the steps of the multi-step workflow except for an initial step of the multi-step workflow. Each of the random nonces i) is incorporated as a map-file entry into a respective one of the plurality of map-files corresponding with a step of the multi-step workflow that directly precedes the step of the multi-step workflow for which the random nonce is generated and ii) is used to perform a nonce-based initiating operation a respective one of the plurality of map-files corresponding with the step of the multi-step workflow for which the random nonce is generated.

Abstract: A plurality of computing appliances, each used by a respective user, provide for collaboration on a common project having an associated base image display. Data is stored in each of a plurality of separate respective data layers, of respective user data associated with a respective display for a respective user, responsive to user input. The authoring environment may synchronize content locks automatically and content only at the request of the user.

Abstract: The present invention can realize easy transition from a task managed by a To-Do list to a workflow. When an unprocessed task stored in the To-Do list database is converted by an instruction into the workflow in the client software, a document management system of the present invention extracts a workflow definition including an activity corresponding to an unprocessed task to be converted by the instruction and notifies a client software of the workflow definition. When the client software selects the workflow definition, server software creates an instance of the workflow corresponding to the selected workflow definition, and applies information about the task to be converted, to the activity corresponding to the task to be converted in the instance of the workflow.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to collaborative information object management and provide a method, system and computer program product for annotating collaborative information structures. In an embodiment of the invention, a method for annotating collaborative information structures can be provided. The method can include creating a collaborative information structure document (ISD) with each of an object section and an annotation section, adding a collaborative object in a collaborative computing environment to the object section of the collaborative ISD, adding an annotation for the collaborative ISD to the annotation section of the collaborative ISD, and storing the collaborative ISD for use as a collaborative object in the collaborative computing environment.

Abstract: System and methods for managing collaborative content resources, such as blogs, collaborative portals, and encyclopedias. In one embodiment, the collaborative resources comprise so-called “wikis” managed within an encyclopedia environment comprising a group of curators. The curators sponsor, peer-review, and accept or reject articles written by experts. When an article is accepted, the senior author joins the group of curators. Each accepted article has a curator and a group of assistant curators. When a registered user modifies the article, the modification is not shown to the public until it is approved by the curator or at least one assistant curator of the article. Upon approval, the user joins the group of assistant curators of the article. Each user has a rank, which in one variant reflects the number of times the approval or rejection decision by the user coincided with the approval or rejection decision by the curator.

Transition information indicate a number of occurrences of each transition relation, with respect to each analysis unit period. Change information indicates a change in the number of occurrences of each transition relation, by comparing the transition information for each analysis unit period between adjacent ones of the analysis unit periods.

Abstract: A system and method for the automatic generation of a website. The website is created upon a user request, where the user provides identification information that is used to search an information database. The information will provide a reference to a code that relates to a template that is used to specify the layout, style and content of the website that is to be generated, and the website is then generated in accordance with the structure of the template, based on content contained in the information database. The user may engage the system and method by means of e-mail or a dedicated website or other such suitable means.

Abstract: A method and system for providing an automated security access policy in a document management system are described. The security policies are applied based on metadata rules. Once a document is added to the document managements system, the metadata rules are evaluated using the metadata of the document. Based on the results of the evaluation security access policies are applied to the document.

Abstract: A document distribution system and method using a WebDAV protocol. The system includes a WebDAV server; and a first client to transmit a document to the WebDAV server using the WebDAV protocol, wherein the first client transmits the document to a predetermined directory of the WebDAV server. Accordingly, the document is transmitted to a specific folder of a document distribution system using the WebDAV protocol, so that the document distribution system can be configured without installing an additional file transmission protocol in the server. Also, various properties of data can be designated without modifying the data when transmitting the document.

Abstract: Techniques are described for managing relationships between entities in a content management system. Embodiments of the invention identify a relationship between a first entity and a second entity in the content management system. Embodiments monitor the first entity in the content management system to detect an occurrence of a triggering event specified in one or more management rules. One or more actions specified by the one or more management rules are then performed on the second entity in the content management system, responsive to the detected occurrence of the triggering event.

Abstract: A collaborative authoring application provides an authoring environment in which two or more users can edit a document concurrently. Each user edits a copy of the document, sends updates to a master copy of the document, and receives updates from the master copy of the document. The handler also may be configured to transfer at least a portion of the data from the blob storage to persistent storage in response to a commit instruction received from an application or generated by the handler. The handler also may be configured to retrieve any portion of the data stored in the blob storage and to send the same to a requesting application in response to an access request.

Abstract: The present invention provides a virtual network, sitting “above” the physical connectivity and thereby providing the administrative controls necessary to link various communication devices via an Access-Method-Independent Exchange. In this sense, the Access-Method-Independent Exchange can be viewed as providing the logical connectivity required. In accordance with the present invention, connectivity is provided by a series of communication primitives designed to work with each of the specific communication devices in use. As new communication devices are developed, primitives can be added to the Access-Method-Independent Exchange to support these new devices without changing the application source code. A Thread Communication Service is provided, along with a Binding Service to link Communication Points. Abstract: A facility for specifying and previewing changes to a web site is described. Sets of changes to a web site are scheduled for release at a specified time. While the changes are being specified using a tool/interface, methods for showing the change as it will appear on the live web site are implemented. Inconsistencies between specified changes and changes in future releases may be identified as the changes are specified. Web page preview functionality is provided to allow any release to be viewed before publication to a live web site. The preview further allows inconsistencies between selected changes and changes in other future releases to be identified.

Abstract: A distribution management system can facilitate synchronous and asynchronous communications, take advantage of electronic scheduling tools, support a facilitator paradigm, and store meeting communications for later retrieval. The system can create a collaborative environment for members of a team in communication with a computer network. An interactive forum can be provided in the collaborative environment in a manner offering varying degrees of structure for collecting information from the members of the team. The information can then be used to arrive at a collaboratively derived decision.
