Abstract: Techniques for adjusting the frequency of data backups and initiating event-driven backups in a storage system are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a self-adjusting backup frequency, known as a “Change Rate Objective,” is defined to conduct or delay backups for one or more volumes in the storage system on the basis of an associated policy value. The Change Rate Objective may be tied to one or more business or data activity events, such as the amount and type of data changes since a last backup. The storage system may also be tailored to conduct or delay full or incremental backups on the basis of a Change Rate Objective that measures whether a full or incremental or differential backup is more appropriate. Various data or system failures, or data or business events may also be used to adjust the retention periods of continuous data protection (CDP) data and delay a rollup of CDP data.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a personal value for a user are disclosed. For example, the method collects data associated with the user, wherein the data that is collected comprises social connection data, enhances the data that is collected, receives a request, and generates a response to the request by using a personal value for the user, where the personal value is generated from the data that is enhanced.

Abstract: A database of user preference information is extracted and compiled from multiple websites by web-crawling robots without cooperation or specific participation by users. Users who interact with a website are frequently required to register and create a login or userID name that uniquely identifies them. Thereafter, when an individual rates an item, it is often recorded and published under their userID name such that other users can see how a specific individual rated the item. Although there is no requirement that a specific user register on different websites utilizing the identical userID, it is extremely common that this practice occurs and the use of identical userIDs on multiple sites is used herein to expand preference analysis beyond a single site. Once the database exists, user's can request or be passively offered suggestions that result from preference associations across multiple websites as performed by a preference analysis and suggestion function.

Abstract: Techniques for rating and committing events in an event processing system are provided. Events can be rated at a rating system according to information that is stored locally on the rating system. Rated events can be stored in a database system with these rated events being utilized to, among other things, restore information that is stored locally on the rating system.

Abstract: A device, server, method, and computer program product for reading an e-book are provided. The e-book may include at least a content identifier corresponding to a content in the e-book. The device may include a content navigator configured to present the content according to a command from a user and a processing unit configured to acquire the content identifier corresponding to the content presented by the content navigator, send the content identifier to a server, and receive from the server a message associated with the content. An output unit configured to output the message to the user may be provided.

Abstract: The use of search context to determine a manner in which related items are to be display to a user upon selecting a search result of a number of search results generated by a search engine. Upon the user selecting one of the search result items, details regarding the selected search result item are then displayed. The details include a listing of related items that includes at least a set of strongly related items. The context of the plurality of search result items is used to determine a manner of display of the related items. Thus, the display manner for the related items may be different according to the context.

Abstract: Provided are techniques for updating a physical data structure type. A persistence provider is updated with dynamic configuration data for the updated physical data structure type while an application is executing. The application that is executing is allowed to access the updated physical data structure type using the updated persistence provider to map an application level object type to the updated physical data structure type without restarting the application.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system for enabling parallel processing of an XML document without pre-parsing, utilizing metadata associated with the XML document and created at the same time as the XML document. The metadata is used to generate partitions of the XML document at the time of parallel processing, without requiring system-intensive pre-parsing.

Abstract: An approach is provided for determining results based on filtered information. A context request is detected from one or more programs. Another program determines to filter the content request, the one or more programs, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: For generating a word space, manual thresholding of word scores is used. Rather than requiring the user to select the threshold arbitrarily or review each word, the user is iteratively requested to indicate the relevance of a given word. Words with greater or lesser scores are labeled in the same way depending upon the response. For determining the relationship between named entities, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is performed on text associated with the name entities rather than on an entire document. LDA for relationship mining may include context information and/or supervised learning.

Abstract: Directional albedo of a particular article, such as an identity card, is measured and stored. When the article is later presented, it can be confirmed to be the same particular article by re-measuring the albedo function, and checking for correspondence against the earlier-stored data. The re-measuring can be performed through us of a handheld optical device, such as a camera-equipped cell phone. The albedo function can serve as random key data in a variety of cryptographic applications. The function can be changed during the life of the article. A variety of other features are also detailed.

Abstract: Texts may be classified by mapping the texts to concept space, and by dividing the concept space based on substantive classes. A concept space containing a diverse set of concepts is defined. One example of a concept space is the set of on-line encyclopedia articles, each of which is an example of a concept. A text is scored for relevance against each concept, and a vector is created containing each of the scores. The vector represents the text's position in concept space. For any given substantive class of texts, the concept space may be divided into regions containing texts that are members/non-members of the class. The dividing boundary may be determined by training a classifier on a set of labeled examples of texts that fall inside and outside the class.

An apparatus includes a content capture mechanism configured for capturing content including an object, and a processor configured for automatically associating an information structure with the object included within the content to form thereby tagged content. A method for using a user device for automatically tagging content includes capturing content including an object, receiving object information associated with the object when a sensor associated with the object is detected, and automatically associating an information structure with the object included within the content to form thereby tagged content, where the information structure includes at least a portion of the object information associated with the object.

Abstract: A web-based Relationship and Content Management Application combining an organization's CRM and ECM systems by integrating CRM's contacts with an ECM system's key features and functionality. The user of such is able to efficiently store and retrieve a combination of information for a relationship from CRM as well as from ECM, avoiding human error and providing data centralization. Users may store and retrieve content from both internal document repositories within an ECM system as well as external document repositories in the user's system. The major features consist of the ease of use and data consistency, plus the leverages of CRM as the centralization of data.

Abstract: A method and system for identifying a subject of a document and facts included within are described. A source document that includes facts and linking documents that include hyperlinks to the source document are identified. The anchor texts of the hyperlinks are identified and candidate labels are generated based on the anchor texts. One of the candidate labels is selected as the unifying subject of the facts. An information set, distinct from the source document, is stored in a facts database, wherein the stored information set includes the unifying subject, and source document information associating the source document with the information set.

Abstract: A content tagging and management capability is provided for enabling automatic tagging of content and management of tagged content. A method includes receiving content including an object, and automatically associating an information structure with the object included within the content to form thereby tagged content. The content may be received locally at a content capture device, and the information structure may be automatically associated with the object by the content capture device. The automatic tagging may be performed at the content capture device when the content is captured by the content capture device. The content may be received at a computer, and the information structure may be automatically associated with the object by the computer. The information structure may be available locally or retrieved from one or more remote devices.

Abstract: Various systems, methods, and machine-readable media are described for providing dynamic schema-based API mapping for traversing inter-cloud application boundaries. Embodiments provide for internal schemas to be created, enabling a system to create internal data objects from external data by using the internal schemas. Application schemas can then be created, enabling the creation of application data objects derived from internal data objects. The application data objects can be passed through an API to an external computing system, and can conform to any format specified by the application schemas.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for handling data in wireless communication devices where data may be captured and linked to a personal journal via indexing and mapping of context data tags abstracted from captured data. The captured data may be retrieved by matching a query to one or more context data tags indexed and mapped to the personal journal. A user preference utilizing one or more of the context data tags linked to the personal journal may facilitate captured data retrieval. The captured data may include multimedia data of an event pre-tagged with indexed information such as user ID, time, date, location and environmental condition or optionally one or more user's biometric data in response to the event. The pre-tagged captured data may be stored in the local host device or transferred to a remote host or storage for later retrieval or post processing.

Abstract: A social media organizer for instructional or educational content may maintain one or more media clips relating to used-defined educational or instructional topics. In one implementation, a device may maintain user-created sets of media clips, where the media clips in a set of media clips include instructional media clips that relate to a particular subject. The device may further receive rankings from users relating to a quality of the sets of media clips and determine one or more of the sets of media clips that match a user search request. Additionally, the device may provide an interface that provides commands for the user to control playback of the media clips.

Abstract: Methods and systems for authenticating a user and a consumer electronic device (CED) to a financial services provider (FSP) for purposes of communications initiated from the device and needing security, such as purchases and financial transactions, are provided. The FSP may compile information about a user's behavior from various sources, both public and private, including the CED. The information may be of a stochastic nature, being gathered by sampling user data and behavior at chosen times. The information may include indicators of user behavior—such as the user using the device to check various accounts and web-pages—and data from the device—such as GPS location. Based on the compiled stochastic information, and using a sliding scale, a throttling mechanism, acceptance variation, and pinging information, the FSP can compare current information from the device with what is known about the user and the device to provide a more accurate and reliable authentication process.

Family trees are generated showing portraits of family tree members with appropriate age indices and preferred social closeness indices and are modified by simply mouse-clicking on displayed portraits. Collections of portraits of selected individuals exemplarily of different generations with an average generational age difference or the same age index (all as children, all as parents or grandparents, etc.) may be displayed. Life stories can be developed, collated to portraits of different age indices.

Abstract: A process for tracking a consumer's behavior based on his or her entries into a number of cybernetic device sources such as personal computers, automated goods and services dispensing kiosks, automated teller machines and cell phones does not depend exclusively upon the presence of cookies implanted into such devices by vendors or upon a consumer's having provided a positive identification form. The process uses a pairing algorithm to comb elements of information from the source device visitation records in search of one or more common characteristics that can be presumptively attributed to a single consumer. Characteristics such as source device identifiers, phone numbers, street addresses or email addresses are each weighted by a weighting factor that is used to identify the consumer and attribute the visitation record and its associated activity to that consumer at a calculated confidence level. The attributed information can analyzed to track that consumer's behavior.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for creating a user profile for a subject user based on historical aggregate profile data for locations at which the subject user was previously located. In one embodiment, one or more location and time period pairs are determined for the subject user. Each location and time period pair defines a previous location of the subject user and a time period during which the subject user was at the previous location. Historical aggregate profile data is obtained for the location and time period pairs. For each location and time period pair, the historical aggregate profile data is generally an aggregation of user profiles of a number of users relevant to the location and time period pair. A user profile for the subject user is then created based on the historical aggregate profile data for the one or more location and time period pairs.

Abstract: Computer-implemented methods and systems for associating co-presence information with a media item comprise creating a media identification (ID) for the media item in response to a media device acquiring a media item. The media ID is broadcast to at least one peer device co-present with the media device. A transmission is received from a registered user of the peer device reporting receipt of the media record ID, and an arbitrary ID for the registered user is created. The arbitrary ID of the registered user of the peer device that reported receipt of the media record ID is then associated with the media item.

The computer program product analyzes the first set of information collected on a first database and compares the first set of information to a matrix which cross references the first set of information to a particular behavior. Computer program product then assigns a series of modules to the individual. The series of modules consists of steps which the individual must complete. The steps consist of an introduction video, vocabulary questions, a lecture, role play videos, peer to peer video, a post lecture, a shout back lab (opportunity for the individual to answer free form questions) and a quiz.

The first date field stores either the date when the first SQL statement was received by the database system, the date of the day that immediately follows the date when the first SQL statement was received by the database system, or a date that was entered into a field of a user interface.

Abstract: A topic modeling architecture is used to discover high-quality semantic classes from a large collection of raw semantic classes (RASCs) for use in generating responses to queries. A specific semantic class is identified from a collection of RASCs, and a preprocessing operation is conducted to remove one or more items with a semantic class frequency less than a predetermined threshold. A topic model is then applied to the specific semantic class for each of the items that remain in the specific semantic class after the preprocessing operation. A postprocessing operation is then conducted on the items of the specific semantic class to merge and sort the results of the topic model and generate final semantic classes for use by a search engine to respond to a query.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for aggregating and presenting tags.
