Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for selecting an item to recommend to a user from a plurality of items. A first set of scores indicating degrees of association between items of the plurality of items may be calculated using a first scoring algorithm having a first scale, and a second set of scores indicating degrees of association between items of the plurality of items may be calculated using a second scoring algorithm having a second scale. The second set of scores may be adjusted to match the second scale to the first scale, and a third set of scores may be calculated for the plurality of items by combining the first set of scores and the adjusted second set of scores. An item may be selected from the plurality of items to recommend to the user based on the third set of scores.

Example embodiments may set forth devices, methods, and computer programs related to search engine inference based virtual assistance. The inference(s) may then be automatically displayed upon the inference(s) being determined. The text may be automatically received as input from a voice-to-text converter as voice-to-text conversion producing the text is occurring.

A program participant must send, and the system, receive, data representative of that program participant's media inventory. The system or program determines a relative similarity of each item from the collection of program participants as compared to each other item and from the similarity information clusters of similar items are identified. The clusters can be used to identify clusters of similar items in an individual program participant's media library and therefrom mixes of similar media items can be created.

Abstract: The present invention enables a unified way of accessing files generated by application programs configured to store contents in files in different formats, without using a conversion program. A database for holding correspondence between an identifier of a content and a storage position of the content is generated based on a backup catalog generated by a backup server, and contents are accessed by using this database. Contents generated by a plurality of different application programs are accessed in a unified way using a single name space.

Abstract: A live system manager may retrieve a current state of the live system, allow a user to edit the state, and generate a set of incremental commands that modify the current state into a desired state. The set of incremental commands may be then executed to create the desired state. In some embodiments, the set of incremental commands may be executed as a transaction. The live system manager may compare the current state to a desired state to generate the incremental commands, and may perform various validation operations during operation. A user may be presented options at various points to disambiguate the user's intentions.

Abstract: Methods and systems for receiving, mapping and structuring data from disparate systems in a healthcare environment are described. An example system for processing healthcare data includes an interface to receive input and display output, the input comprising a plurality of differently formatted healthcare messages and an identifier to identify a message type of the plurality of healthcare messages received. The example system also includes a mapper to map data of the plurality of healthcare messages to respective models based on the message type identified and a data store to store the models and corresponding mapped data.

Abstract: An embodiment of the invention includes a method for centralized URL commenting, wherein user-generated comment data is extracted from web pages on a plurality of web sites. Access control parameters are also obtained from the web sites. The comment data is tagged with identifiers indicating the web sites that the comment data was extracted from, URLs indicating the web pages that the comment data are on, and authors of the comment data. The comment data is stored in a repository. Keywords are extracted from the comment data; and, the keywords are normalized. The normalizing of the keywords includes creating a single normalized keyword for multiple keywords related to the same topic, and tagging comment data that include at least one of the multiple keywords with the normalized keyword. Read access and/or write access to the repository is controlled based on the access control parameters.

Abstract: Systems and methods facilitate a search and identify documents and associated metadata reflecting content of the documents. In one implementation, a method receives a query comprising a set of search terms, identifies a stored document in response to the query, and determines a score value for the retrieved document based on a similarity between one or more of the query search terms and metadata associated with the identified document. The method locates the identified document in a citation network of baseline query results, the citation network comprising a first set of documents that cite to the identified document and a second set of documents cited to by the identified document. The method further determines a new score value of the identified document as a function of the score value and a quantity and a quality of documents within the first and second set of documents.

Abstract: An invention for creating and managing, within an Information Governance framework, a Master Classification of Record Classes (MC-RC) and associated file plans within an entity and across jurisdictions where its sub-entities operate. The file plans are used to organize the records of the entity and apply governance rules to them, for example, retention and disposition. The invention may use two integrated modules. The first is an Information Governance Policy Module (IGPM) which may be used to create a MC-RC for the entity and corresponding governance rules for each of the Record Classes. The second is an Information Governance Control Module (IGCM) which allows administrators in the sub-entities to create and manage file plans using the Record Class definitions in the IGPM, associate these file plans with jurisdictions, and manage the sub-entity's records within them.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for seamlessly switching media playback between a media broadcast, such as a radio broadcast, and media from a local media library. When an electronic device determines that an upcoming media item in a media broadcast is not of interest to a user, the electronic device can switch playback from the media stream to a media item from the electronic device local library. The selected local media item can be related to a previously broadcast media item to ensure continuity in the user's listening or viewing experience. The electronic device can switch away from the local media item and return to the media stream when the media stream again broadcasts media items or segments of interest to the user.

Abstract: A processor performs line-rate filtering using hardware-assisted Patricia trees. A PCAP-style filter is converted into a form that can be inserted into a Patricia tree. The PCAP filter expression is parsed and converted into disjunctive normal form (DNF). Each DNF clause of the filter is inserted into a Patricia tree. The DNF clauses are checked for overlaps and the overlapping clauses are combined when possible.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing an information handling system having at least one hardware component, e.g. motherboard, bearing a unique identifier (component ID) in software-readable form. The method comprises generating a digital identifier (system trackcode) which defines the hardware and software configuration of the item, storing the system trackcode in association with the component ID in a manufacturing database such that the component ID can be used as a key to retrieve the associated system trackcode. During manufacture the component ID is read from the motherboard and used to retrieve the associated system trackcode from the database.

Abstract: Methods, program products, and systems implementing dynamic parsing rules are disclosed. Log data from a variety of log producers can be parsed using parsing rules to generate information about an information system. The parsing rules can include system parsing rules and custom parsing rules. A state machine can be used to detect conflicts between various parsing rules. A central server can distribute the system parsing rules and custom parsing rules to one or more remote servers for distributed processing. In a hierarchical parsing system, a first tier parser can be used to identify types of sources generating the log data. Log data from each type of log source can be sent to a second tier parser that corresponds to the type of log source.

Abstract: A method and system for controlling disclosure of trace data related to moving object. Abstract: A method embodied as a web application that enables the automated construction of project teams from profiles contained in data sources accessible through the World Wide Web. The data sources may include social networks, blogs, web pages, and postings on online discussion forums. The locations of these data sources are supplied by a system administrator (during configuration and maintenance) and by registered users of the web application. The web application allows the system administrator to create a set of templates describing the kinds of roles and skills required by the users of the web application. The web application identifies potential team members referenced in the information sources and constructs a semantic network describing the skill sets and team suitability of those potential team members. The web application allows a registered user to enter the roles and capabilities required for a project team they wish to create.

Abstract: Methods for processing streaming data records are provided that include facilities for defining and naming multiple input and output data streams using relational processing definitions and abstractions similar to those found in relational database management systems (RDBMS) and embodied as a set of communicating stream processing nodes. The result is a Distributed Data Stream Management System (DDSMS) which is also a kind of Relational Data Stream Management System (RDSMS). The former comprises a set of Relational Data Stream Management System (RDSMS) nodes, whereas the latter might contain only a single RDSMS node.

Abstract: A method for identifying components in figures extracts component numbers in a description section of a patent document that are coupled with a component name, and creates a component information list based on the component numbers. The method distinguishes each component number and respective positions of all the component numbers in a figure section of the patent document. The method detects a position of a cursor displayed on a display device when the figure section is being viewed. The method searches for a component name of a component number from the component information list when the cursor is positioned within a preset region around the component number, and displays the component name beside the component number in the figure section of the patent document on the display device.

A transaction's token passes down a pipe of services. The pipe can have forks and branches, so a transaction's token is passed from node to node carrying messages from one node to another. The overall transactional information is not lost from service to service; instead it is carried up and down the length of the pipeline. As the transaction's token is passed up and down the pipeline, its history passes with it. The pipe links a chain of nodes connected end-to-end.

Abstract: To help a database administrator assess the impact of database server changes on applications, trace files are preprocessed into intermediate files with events sorted by generation order. Unused event classes and columns of a trace file are excluded, and pre-calculated data may be included. Intermediate files are then dispatched across a set of clients, and replay occurs in a synchronization mode or a stress mode. Synchronization mode releases events in submission order, whereas stress mode releases events in emulation of their original timing. Replay parameters include server idle time cap, query timeout value, a connect-time scaling factor for scaling time between trace start and connection login, and a think-time scaling factor for scaling the time between events on a replay client—database server connection. Each replay client generates a result file, which a replay controller aggregates for administrator analysis.

The user dynamically accesses, via a fantasy sports game interface, the tagged media portions stored in the database by engaging in a dialogue with at least one server associated with the database and retrieving portions of the media presentation in response to user queries.

For example, a method according to one embodiment comprises: reading compressed audio data from a first audio file, the first audio file comprising audio data compressed using a first compression algorithm and bookkeeping data having a first format, the bookkeeping data specifying a location of the compressed audio data within the first audio file; and generating a universal representation of the first audio file without decompressing and recompressing the audio data, the universal representation having bookkeeping data of a second format specifying the location of compressed audio data within the universal representation.

Abstract: A distributed system with transaction support may have a transaction component and one or more data components. The transaction component may manage a transaction using a log sequence number for each operation, and then transmit operations to one or more data components with log sequence numbers. The data components may perform the data operations in an idempotent manner and return a reply. The transaction component may then write the operation, its log sequence number, and information from the reply message to its log. The transaction component is able to commit a transaction, as well as retry or undo portions of a transaction, by using the information stored on its log. This may be possible even when a single transaction uses multiple data components, which may be located on different devices or manage separate and independent data sources.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system for, and method of, calculating parameters used to determine whether records and entity representations should be linked. The system and method utilize blended field weights to account for certain types of partial matches. The system and method apply iterative techniques such that parameters from each linking iteration are used in the next linking iteration. The system and method need no human interaction in order to calibrate and utilize record matching formulas used for the linking decisions.

Abstract: A payment integrity system that processes data, including data associated with a biometric technology. The system includes a discovery module to receive insurance records from a source of data, which includes the data associated with the biometric technology, the records providing information that pertain to at least one transaction. A join order of a result set comprising multiple tuples is determined from the join query, and a nested hierarchy of dictionaries is maintained based on the join order. The nested hierarchy of dictionaries is used to encode each of the tuples of the result set so as to produce an encode tuple, and each of the encoded tuples is transmitted to a client system. Also provided is a method for decompressing results of a join query.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system for enabling parallel processing of an XML document without pre-parsing, utilizing metadata associated with the XML document and created at the same time as the XML document. The metadata is used to generate partitions of the XML document at the time of parallel processing, without requiring system-intensive pre-parsing.

Abstract: A media player for creating a media archive may include a media reader to read media content from a recording medium inserted into the media reader. The media player may also include an archival component to store the media content in a storage medium. In one embodiment, the media player includes a playback component to play back the media content from the storage medium concurrently with the storage of the media content by the archival component.
