Abstract: Mechanisms for performing zoning of devices, such as Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) devices, for example, in a storage area network (SAN) in which all host systems of the SAN are automatically mapped to all of the storage systems are provided. Mechanisms for automatically mapping backend storage enclosures to appropriate storage system controllers on the SAN are provided. The zoning is automatically performed based on whether ports/phys are coupled to host systems, storage systems, and whether there are storage system controllers associated with the storage systems. Based on the automatic zoning, mapping of the storage devices of the storage systems to the host systems may be automatically performed via zone permission tables. By automating the zoning, users that do not necessarily have a detailed knowledge of the storage device communication protocol or SANs may configure the SAN even if it utilizes a complex and large architecture.

The routing of data may further include routing a first OPEN request on a direct path through the first SAS expander to a port of a device and routing a second OPEN request on an alternate path from the first SAS expander and through a second SAS expander to the port of the device. The method further includes determining link availability between the second SAS expander and the port of the device, and, upon determination of a failed link or a busy link, re-routing the data transfer from the second SAS expander to the first SAS expander or a third SAS expander, or retrying the data transfer through the second SAS expander.

Abstract: A reciprocating plug detector is configured at the connector of a portable device and is pushed to generate a control signal when the portable device is plugged into a host system. A controller of the portable device then performs a command when receiving the control signal. When the portable device is unplugged from the host system, the reciprocating plug detector may also be used for generating the control signal and before the portable device totally leaves the host system, the controller performs other pre-defined command during these few milliseconds. The portable device is implemented with a variety of computer controllability and provided with power-failure protection for data.

Abstract: Relay buffers 600, 601, 602, and 603 in a computer module 110 and an I/O module 120 each have a noise filter circuit for determining the amplitude of a signal to/from PCIe interfaces 161 and 162 to distinguish a signal from noise and controlling ON/OFF of output signals. An I/O hub 300 and a PCIe switch 400 make a switch between enablement and disablement of the noise filter circuits in the relay buffers according to communication mode, and disables the noise filter circuits when communication is performed at a high rate. Cable removal detecting circuits 115 and 125 notify the I/O hub 300 and the PCIe switch 400 of a removal of a PCIe cable 151 to prevent a malfunction caused by noise that results from a PCI glitch.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for interconnecting Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) devices using either an electrical communication medium or an optical communication medium. Each device includes an out of band (OOB) encoder/decoder (endec) logic component to translate between standard OOB signals used by the devices and digitally encoded OOB signals exchanged over the communication medium. Thus the devices may be coupled using either optical or electrical cabling. The digitally encoded OOB signals may also be scrambled to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated during OOB communications using the digitally encoded OOB signals. The scrambled digitally encoded OOB signals may comprise information regarding capabilities of the device that generated the underlying OOB signal. Such information may indicate to the other high speed device certain capabilities of the transmitting device—the information to be used in establishing logical connections between devices.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for improving communication between processors in separate computer systems. Components and peripherals in individual computer systems communicate using input/output (I/O) buses such as PCI Express buses. The I/O buses are extended to allow interconnection between computer systems without having to introduce network infrastructure. A transfer controller supporting Direct Memory Access (DMA) is provided to allow even more efficient communication between computer systems.

Abstract: An improved method and apparatus is disclosed for communicating control information between components of an audio/video system. Processing and control logic is implemented to transfer a plurality of data streams on predetermined channels of a digital video interface. A first data stream contains video data received by a video interface receiver, where it is used to generate an image on a digital display. A second data stream contains control data, which is similarly received by the video interface receiver, and is used to control source devices coupled to the digital display.

Abstract: This invention discloses a method for smooth capacity expansion of data communication product, and a smooth capacity expandable system of data communication. Architecture of the system at least comprises circuit card and switched network card; and further comprises interface card of switched network, interface transfer card and connection optical fiber. Based on these, it provides one kind of multiple frameworks structure with interconnection between frameworks. When the capacity is expanded, the original circuit cards and switched network cards keep unchanged, only smoothly increases the switched network cards and numbers of circuit card frameworks. Therefore, it implements smooth capacity expansion and client investment protection at the same time. With adding backup cards, it also implements capacity expansion without interrupting the service.
