Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods that reduce power consumption for an electronics device including a display. The systems and methods alter video information in a display area and reduce power for a display device when a graphics item is enlarged and the enlargement threatens to increase perceived luminance for the graphics item or increase aggregate luminance for the display area. Altering the video information reduces the luminance of video information in at least the graphics item when enlarged. This may offset perceived luminance gained by human visual processing when an item increases in size. If the graphics item is smaller than the display area after enlargement, then other video information in the display area may also be altered to conserve power.

Abstract: A bridging device and a power saving method thereof are disclosed. When a bridging chip of the bridging device receives a power saving command transferred from a host and thereby enters a power saving state, a voltage converter of the bridging device is disabled accordingly and a selection circuit selects to couple a bus voltage to the bridging chip to power the bridging chip. The bus voltage is transferred from the host through a power pin of a connector of the bridging device. The connector is coupled to the host.

  • Patent number: 9471250
Abstract: The intermittent sampling of storage access frequency is performed by determining a duration of a collection window and a duration of an observation window within the collection window. A position of the observation window within the collection window is randomly selected, and frequencies of accesses of one or more storage objects during the observation window are observed. When a new access of a given storage object occurs, a delta time for the given storage object is calculated as the time of the observed access minus the timestamp of the most recent observed prior access of the given storage object. Optionally, the delta time of two sequential accesses of a given storage object in two different observation windows may be calculated as if the two different observation windows are immediately adjacent to each other.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are described for performing a cache line write back operation. For example, one embodiment of a method comprises: initiating a cache line write back operation directed to a particular linear address; determining if a dirty cache line identified by the linear address exists at any cache of a cache hierarchy comprised of a plurality of cache levels; writing back the dirty cache line to memory if the dirty cache line exists in one of the caches; and responsively maintaining or placing the dirty cache line in an exclusive state in at least a first cache of the hierarchy.

Abstract: A plurality of server computers in a network that includes load balancing processes to enhance performance employs a non-performance related variable, such as power consumption, and modifies the load balancing processes in response to the reading of the non-performance variable. Such variables do not affect the response and performance as perceived by a browsing client but do provide other advantages with in the environment as a whole. The non-performance related variable is employed such that one or more of said server computers are de-activated to reduce power consumption, and the load balancing processes balance load across the remaining active server computers.

  • Patent number: 9465565
Abstract: Provided is an image forming apparatus that is coping with the response and the energy-saving effect. The image forming apparatus has a host system and a proxy response system. The host system transmits response data for information request data in a normal mode. The proxy response system transmits the response data for the information request data in a sleep mode. The memory part of the proxy response system memorizes information of the response data from the host system, and sleep mode transit time. The sleep control part makes the host system shift from the normal mode to the sleep mode based on the sleep mode transit time. The sleep control part changes the sleep mode transit time according to quantity of the information of the response data memorized in the memory part.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for adjusting power consumption of a computing device. The computing device is configured with one or more sensors to sense when a user moves away and returns to the computing device. Over a period of time, the computing device determines a pattern of activity related to how long the user is normally away from the computing device during particular times of the day. The computing device may then adjust power consumption of the device or associated components during times of the day for which a pattern of activity has been determined. For example, the computing device may adjust a duration that the computing device will remain idle before power to the computing device is limited.
