  • Patent number: 8149938
Abstract: A transmission of information within a wireless cellular network may include a first and second type of information. A subframe is produced that includes a plurality of symbols, wherein at least one symbol is designated as a data symbol and at least one symbol is designated as a reference signal symbol that contains a pre-defined reference signal. The first type of information is embedded in the data symbols. If the second type of data is expected, then the second type of information is embedded in at least one reference symbol by quadrature amplitude modulating the pre-defined reference signal. The subframe is then transmitted from one node in the network to a second node. In some embodiments, if it is determined that the second node is not expecting the second type of information, then a discontinuous transmission (DTX) response is embedded in the reference symbol instead of the second type of information.

Abstract: A method and system for supporting multiple hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) processes per transmission time interval (TTI) are disclosed. A transmitter and a receiver include a plurality of H-ARQ processes to transmit and receive multiple transport blocks (TBs) simultaneously per TTI. The transmitter generates a plurality of TBs and assigns the TBs to multiple H-ARQ processes. The transmitter sends control information for the TBs and H-ARQ processes associated with the TBs to the receiver. The transmitter then sends the TBs using multiple H-ARQ processes simultaneously per TTI. After receiving the TBs, the receiver sends feedback to each of the TBs indicating successful or unsuccessful receipt of each of the TBs to the transmitter. Abstract: A method for securely transmitting data messages in an HVDCT system. Each transmitting unit is connected to each receiving unit via at least two connection channels. Each data message includes a message counter that uniquely characterizes the data message, and each transmitting unit transmits the data message to each receiving unit via all of the connection channels. Each receiving unit calculates a comparison counter and compares it with the message counter in the received data message. If the message counter and the comparison counter do not match, a repetition request is transmitted to the transmitting unit for the purpose of transmitting a message counter that corresponds to the comparison counter. After the repetition request has been received, the transmitting unit accesses a transmission buffer, and the data message whose message counter corresponds to the comparison counter of the repetition request is transmitted via all of the connection channels.

  • Patent number: 8065581
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are presented for dynamically controlling the re-transmission scheme of acknowledgment signals. A source transmits a first data packet over a slot s1. If channel conditions are favorable, source transmits a second data packet over slot s2, which precedes the reception of any acknowledgment signals. A destination receives first data packet over slot d1 and second data packet over slot d2. Destination decodes first data packet during slots d2 and d3, and second data packet over slots d3 and d4. Destination transmits an acknowledgment signal (ACK1) associated with first data packet during slot d4. Rather then transmitting the second ACK1 associated with first data packet over slot d5, destination preempts this slot with an acknowledgment signal ACK2, which is associated with second data packet transmitted by source. Hence, destination is configured to overwrite the repetition of a previous acknowledgment in order to transmit a new acknowledgment.

Abstract: The invention relates to retransmissions in wireless communication systems. It is proposed to reduce the retransmission delays by utilizing feedback associated with a lower protocol layer than the conventional feedback messages of the ARQ functionality. After sending a packet from a transmitter towards a receiver, the transmitter monitors the link for a low-level control signal from the receiver. The low-level control information can e.g. comprise power control commands or be related to link quality indicators. Based on this signal, it is decided whether a retransmission is to take place, e.g. at the transmitter or at an external control unit.

  • Patent number: 8010861
Abstract: Fast recovery from losses is an important problem for reliable data communication protocols. The Internet standard TCP protocol (Transmission Control Protocol) implements two algorithms for that: an original one based on a special timer, and a later addition to TCP that is triggered when there are three packets received by the client after the missing one. Web communications are most frequently carrying rather small objects that are generally ineligible for anything other than timeout-based retransmission schemes. The present invention describes a system delivering performance improvements to TCP (and other reliable data communication protocols) that are compliant with present Internet standards. One improvement is to send duplicates of packets without waiting for a timeout to occur. Another is to split particular parts of a data stream into smaller packets. A third is to send packets out-of-order to force the remote host to acknowledge all packets that were successfully received.

Abstract: A source application reads a body of data in data block sized units and calculates a checksum value for each data block before sending the data block, the calculated checksum value and the identifier. Upon receipt, a destination application independently calculates a checksum value for each received data block and compares the two checksums. Non-matching checksums indicate a network-induced error in the data block. Identifiers for the erroneous data blocks are transmitted to the source application after all of the data blocks have been initially transmitted. The source application thereafter resends only those data blocks identified. The destination application repeats the process of comparing checksums and transmitting identifiers to the source application until all of the data blocks of the body of data have been correctly received, and then uses the data blocks to recreate the body of data.

  • Patent number: 7872964
Abstract: A file transmission technique that does not make retransmission control complex even in a case in which a transmission error occurs is provided. A communication terminal executes a transmission job for transmitting an inspection indication file to the apparatus. When there is an error either in transmitting the inspection indication file or in receiving an inspection result file, the communication terminal executes a retransmission job after a predetermined time lapses. At this time, if there is a new transmission job generated for the same apparatus, the retransmission job is deleted. Alternatively, if there is a different retransmission job for the same apparatus, a retransmission job that has been generated first is deleted.

  • Patent number: 7818647
Abstract: The present invention relates to method for controlling the transmission timing of data retransmissions in a wireless communication system wherein a HARQ retransmission protocol, is used to retransmit data from a transmitting entity to a receiving entity via a data channel. Further the present invention relates to a base station, a mobile terminal and a communication system employing the present invention. To overcome problems resulting from synchronous retransmissions in interference critical situations, the present invention introduces additional feedback signaling to a new HARQ protocol. The new NACK-S indicates to the transmitting entity to stop the synchronously transmitting retransmissions but to await a scheduling assignment for the retransmission from the receiving entity instead.

Abstract: It is possible to provide a radio transmission device, a radio reception device, and a radio communication method which can suppress increase of the feedback overhead and improve the throughput characteristic. In ST 304, an UE performs an error judgment for each of CW. In ST 305, a comparison is made on quality between streams in the CW containing the error. ST 306 transmits Nack and quality difference information to a BS. In ST 307, it is reported to the BS that an error has occurred in the CW in the preceding transmission and that one of the streams is a high-quality stream. Moreover, ST 307 selects data which has been transmitted as CW retransmission data in a low-quality stream in the preceding transmission and decides to transmit the selected data from two streams. ST 308 generates a retransmission CW. ST 309 arranges the retransmission CW in the two streams and transmits the retransmission CW to the UE.

  • Patent number: 7764693
Abstract: A radio communication system which automatically selects a communication path having a higher speed is provided when a plurality of communication paths having a different speed from each other are available for data transmission between the radio terminal and the base station control equipment. The radio terminal receives a data frame and sends back an ACK signal for the data frame via the communication path through which the data frame has been received. At this time, the radio terminal acquires data of the frame with a sequence number having received at the first time, and if the frame with the same sequence number is received later, the frame is discarded. However, the ACK signal is sent back in respective cases. The base station control equipment transmits a first data frame to the radio terminal via the plurality of communication paths and transmits subsequent data frames to the radio terminal via one communication path through which the ACK signal for the first data frame has arrived the earliest.
