Abstract: Systems and methods are described for intelligent default selection of characters to be entered via an on-screen keyboard. Based on one to several criteria, a character most likely to be selected for entry via the on-screen keyboard during a search request is determined and a selector is positioned at that particular character. If that character is indeed the character the user wishes to enter, the user does not have to execute any navigation steps to enter the character, but can—with a single actuation—enter that character. In many instances, the user will only have to enter the selection without first having to navigate to the selection. As a result, the number of times buttons need to be actuated by the user to enter a character string can be significantly reduced.

Abstract: Embodiments for a networked system that supports access to media assets as well as social interactions amongst users are disclosed. One aspect can pertain to a networked system and method for providing recommendations to users of the networked system. The networked system can provide media content and/or a social network to users. For example, the networked system can pertain to a media system incorporating social networking. The networked system can evaluate users and/or activities to determine when and to which users a recommendation should be provided. Another aspect can pertain to creation or editing of profiles. The profiles can be used with an online media system. A profile for a user can include information about users, including a media profile that represents the media interests of the user. The profiles can also facilitate social networking via the online media system.

Abstract: Provided are a mobile device and method for operating a graphic user interface (GUI) in connection with a specific screen of a media-related application. In the method for operating the GUI, the mobile device displays a GUI screen containing a media region and a text region. The media region is provided for at least one medium disposed therein. When text is inputted in the text region, the mobile device correlates the text with one of the at least one medium. Additionally, when there is a touch on the media region, the mobile device modifies the GUI of the touched media. This method allows a user to conveniently write a message to which at least one media is attached. In case where a plurality of media are attached to a message a check of the media selected as an attachment and the associated text can easily be made.

Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for searching multiple search services in parallel and utilizing multiple search providers in a computer system. Multiple search providers are installed onto a browser application of a user computer system. Upon receipt of a user search query and a user designated search provider, an instant answer is automatically displayed without any user interaction. Other aggregated results are displayed together in a combined window pane. One section displays results of any recent searches that match the search query entry. Another section displays search suggestions provided by the designated search provider. Another section displays results of any previously visited sites in which results of the previously visited site match the search entry. Additional searches of different designated search providers can also be made. These multiple searches of multiple search providers are conducted from the same browser window as the initial search.

Abstract: A method of displaying an available character capacity in a character entry window includes calculating an available character capacity based on characters entered by a user, displaying the entered characters in a character entry window, and displaying an indication of the available character capacity at a position in the character entry window adjacent to the last character entered by the user. A method of displaying an available character capacity on a graphical user interface includes calculating an available character capacity based on characters entered by a user, displaying the entered characters on the graphical user interface, and displaying an object in the graphical user interface in a specific color corresponding to the calculated available character capacity.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for detecting an action providing input associated with an element of a user interface and/or graphical model, and providing an indicator to indicate the action has been detected. The user interface and graphical model may provide one or more elements that may be editable or otherwise changeable by a user or programmatically via executable instructions. The action may provide input that may change a value of the editable element of the user interface or alter an element of the graphical model. Upon detection of the action, the present invention provides an indicator in the user interface or the graphical model in a manner associated with the detected changed element. The indicator may be a visual indicator or may be any other sensory type of indicator, such as a sound, force, or tactile indicator. As such, the indicator provides a prompt to a user that one or more elements of the user interface or graphical model may need to be saved, applied, or any changes canceled.

Abstract: Criterion-based feedback allows users to provide useful information in a quick and easy to understand fashion. When information for an item is relayed to a user, the user is provided with the ability to provide feedback for any criteria relating to the item. In some embodiments, this feedback takes the form of a submission of a response to a question or statement pertaining to a criterion for the item. The user is able to create new responses if the existing responses do not adequately convey the feedback that the users wishes to submit. Further, a user can also submit entirely new questions and/or statements, along with corresponding new responses, that correspond to a criterion relating to the item. Such an approach provides flexibility for users to quickly and easily provide feedback on specific criteria that might be useful for other users viewing information for that item.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for composing a message in an online textbox using a non-Latin script. In one example, the method includes receiving a selection of a target language for composing the message in the online textbox, loading a hash table and an integer n that are associated with the target language, adding to a queue a character inputted from a QWERTY keyboard, and applying appropriate parsing and mapping techniques to the queue using the hash table and the integer n to display an appropriate script of the target language.

Abstract: Method of and system for evaluating and annotating live or prerecorded activities, such as live or prerecorded public speaking. Evaluations and annotations may be generated in real-time while the activity is taking place or afterwards without the need for a video or audio recording, or may be generated while recording or watching a recording. The technique comprises a hierarchical multi-level menu of canned and/or custom comments, canned and/or custom detailed descriptions of comments, custom notes, supplemental informational content, and community-contributed content. The technique also comprises selecting, in response to user input, canned and/or custom comments from the menu, generating timestamped, color-coded annotations corresponding to the comments, and storing the annotations in a database without modifying the prerecorded activity file if any was played while evaluating. Annotations are displayed in real-time during the evaluation and can also be displayed during playback at a later time.

Abstract: A computer establishes a wireless wide area network (WWAN) account simply by entering his telephone number in a user interface (UI) which is sent to an Internet server and correlated with the user's telephone account. A utility notes when a usage limitation for a period is approaching and in response disables wireless updates and automatically executes the updates when a landline connection is sensed.

Abstract: A system and method that enables a designer to build electronic forms and corresponding hierarchical schemas are described. Displays of hierarchical schemas, electronic forms, and components used to build the hierarchical schemas and electronic forms are provided to the designer. The designer selects components and arranges them on a display to visually build an electronic form. As the form is built, the corresponding hierarchical schema is incrementally updated to reflect changes made to the electronic form.

Abstract: A method of inspecting a physical asset using a mobile computing device is disclosed. Data regarding the asset and its condition is collected on the mobile device by a user, and may include photographs, audio or video recordings, text or other types of data. The data is automatically annotated with the current time and the geo-location of the device. The data is transmitted to a server and saved in a manner such that it may not be modified. This allows for auditing, as well as tracking of the asset over time by comparing data entered at one time with data entered at another time. Reports may be automatically generated from the saved data when desired. Pre-defined fields for data entry may be presented for ease of use. In some embodiments, the asset being inspected is a building, house or apartment.

Abstract: There is disclosed a user interface for selecting a photo tag. In an embodiment, the user interface embodies a method of selecting a photo tag for a tagged photo, comprising: providing a tag entry field for entering a photo tag; in dependence upon a string entered by a user, displaying in a matching tag list any tags from one or more selected tag sources matching the entered string. The method may further comprise displaying a tag type for each tag appearing in the matching tag list. The method may further comprise allowing user selection of a tag in the matching tag list to complete the tag entry field.

Abstract: Extracting data from web pages. User input is received defining a tabular form. User input is received correlating portions of the form with user selected data items contained in one or more first web pages. The user input is correlated to create an ontology defining relationships between the user selected data items based on the definition of the tabular form. One or more other web pages are accessed, and based on a context of the one or more data items in the first web page being similar to a context of the selected data items in the one or more first web pages, one or more similar data items are extracted from the one or more other web pages. The extracted data items are correlated to each other in accordance with the ontology defining relationships between the user selected data items and are output as a user searchable data structure.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a system, method and technique for operating a communication device. According to an embodiment, information contained in a contact record is displayed, where the information includes a plurality of entries. Each entry is associated with one of a plurality of communication types and includes an identifier for use with an application of the associated communication type. An input is detected corresponding to a user's selection of one of the plurality of entries. In response to the user's selection, the application of the communication type associated with the selected entry is automatically executed by initiating a communication using the identifier included in the selected entry.

Abstract: A method and system for enabling location entry is provided. A text string entered into a free-form location entry field of a user interface is received. At least one location potentially matching the text string is retrieved from a location database managed by a computer system. The at least one location is provided to the user interface for presentation to a user of the user interface.

Abstract: A method provides, as part of a computer administration system, an administration interface that can operate on almost any computerized device that has a user interface. The computer administration system manages components of a computer system and the administration interface is operable to configure the components and to provide dynamic performance and configuration information of the components to the user as the components operate. The method provides a “commentary input” area on the administration interface while providing the performance and configuration information of a specific component or a set of components. Thus, the method can receive comment(s) about the specific component(s) of the computerized system in the commentary input area. When this occurs, the method stores the comment(s) in a data store in a manner that associates the comment(s) with the specific component(s) that was being monitored.

Abstract: User input to a computing device comprises a demarcated portion and a remainder portion. The demarcated portion comprises a label or data type which is associated with an application. On processing the user input, the associated application is instructed to open a data object and use the data of the demarcated portion and the remainder portion for the data object. Rules specify which applications may be associated with which data types and labels.

Abstract: The embodiments include a system and a method for establishing a communication connection after searching the World Wide Web. The system can include a first communication device for forming at least one communication connection between the first communication device and a second communication device, search means adapted to accept a query, access means can be adapted to search and identify relevant phone number information using the query, and create at least one icon to link the first communication device to a relevant phone number included in the relevant phone number information identified by the query, and reformulate the query if no relevant phone numbers are identified during the search. The system also includes click-to-dial means adapted to establish at least one communication connection from the first communication device to the second communication device.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically advertising items put on display, as well as protecting those items against theft. The system and method include an event sensor associated with the item and connected to a monitoring and alarm transmitter for initiating an advertising experience on an associated and local graphic display whenever the item is manipulated or approached by a patron. Should the item be removed or taken from its display stand, a wireless alarm is automatically transmitted to a receiver of an authorized person. The system and method also perform a logging function when a patron approaches the item or removes it without taking it away. The system and method also include the ability to provide power to electronic items that are on display.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to methods and apparatuses for responding to a problem associated with a self-service machine. For example, some embodiments provide a method that includes: (a) determining that a problem associated with a self-service machine occurred during a transaction involving the self-service machine and a user of the self-service machine; (b) prompting, via a user interface associated with the self-service machine, the user to submit a request, where the request is to receive, at a mobile device accessible to the user, a communication regarding the problem; (c) receive the request via the user interface; and/or (d) send the communication regarding the problem to the mobile device accessible to the user.

Abstract: A competitive event statistic delivery system, device, and method is disclosed. The system may include a primary display configured to display a competitive event. The system may also include a secondary display configured to display multiple streams of statistics as they relate to events displayed on the primary display. A selector may be configured to allow a user to dynamically and selectively pick from among the multiple streams of statistics for display on the secondary display.

Abstract: The user of an Internet-enabled CE device such as an Internet protocol TV (IPTV) can enter search terms describing desired Internet-sourced programs, and Internet channels are monitored to detect when the desired programs become available. When a desired program is detected an alert appears on screen, which can be selected to navigate to a current alert user interface (UI) from which detected desired programs can be selected for presentation.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, system and/or computer program product dynamically display ancillary content on a webpage. A text entry is detected as an input to a find engine that locates and highlights the text entry within a main body of a webpage being displayed on a computer. A scope of the text entry is determined based on the textual context of the text entry and the type of webpage being displayed. An in-place adjustment is then utilized to automatically retrieve and display ancillary content on the webpage based on the textual context of the text entry and the type of webpage being displayed without refreshing the main body of the webpage.

Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for replicating text at a virtual keyboard. Characters submitted to, displayed at, or accumulated for submission to an application data field are echoed at a keyboard data field that is in relatively close proximity to virtual keys used to enter the characters. Thus, a user does not have to alter their field of view to the application data field to determine what was submitted to the application data field, what was entered at the application data field, or what is to be submitted to the application data field. Accordingly, embodiments of the invention permit a user to much more easily see what they typed using a virtual keyboard. The need to alter a visual field of focus between an application data field and a virtual keyboard is significantly reduced, if not eliminated.

Abstract: An electronic messager with a predictive text editor, including a storage unit for storing a data structure associating, for each one of a plurality of a user's contacts, usage data for the user's history of usage of words in communications with the user contact, a data manager coupled with the storage unit for generating the data structure in the storage unit, and for updating the data structure as additional communications with each user contact are performed and additional usage data is obtained therefrom, and a text predictor coupled with the storage unit, for receiving as input a character string and a designated user contact, and for generating as output an ordered list of predicted words, based on usage data in the data structure associated with the designated user contact. A method is also described and claimed.

Abstract: This disclosure describes a system in which individual employee records can be updated across multiple services by an administrator at the interface to a particular service. Multiple services may be provided with this capability. This will eliminate the need in the current art for a central directory that contains a service description that will be common across all services. The technology eliminates the need for the development of this directory and the training of administrators in its interface. Administrators may utilize their training in one service interface to update records across multiple services. This will enable the more rapid development of solutions utilizing services from multiple vendors. Administrators need not be trained on interfaces for all services but can apply routine global updates from a convenient and familiar interface.

Abstract: A sketching and searching application for idea generation is described. In an embodiment, a software application is described which has a user interface which comprises a sketching area. When a user draws or annotates a sketch in the application, the application automatically searches for images based on the sketch and displays results in the form of images outside the sketching area. These images are used to inspire new ideas and to facilitate the creative process in a way that is closely linked with the sketching process. When the sketch is updated, additional searching is automatically performed and new results are displayed. In some examples the sketching area is deformable and deformation may cause new results to be displayed and in some examples the user is able to drag image results into the sketching area to enable tracing of the image or to include the image in the sketch.

Abstract: A best-fit rigged body model can be generated for a user based on body measurements provided by the user. Existing, and already known, rigged body models can be filtered, such as via a Principal Component Analysis to eliminate body models that are very similar in a measurement space whose dimensions are comprised of body measurements that can be, or actually were, collected from the user. The body measurements provided by the user can be expressed, in measurement space, as a combination of fractions of one or more existing body models. Such a combination can be computed through a Least Square Error analysis. A best-fit rigged body model can be generated for a user by amalgamating existing rigged body models in accordance with this previously determined combination of fractions of the one or more existing body models.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for identifying a first pattern formed by a first set of document elements. The method associates a tag that identifies the first pattern with the document. The method then identifies a second pattern formed by a second set of document elements and the tag. The method associates a second tag with the document. The second tag identifies the second pattern and is associated with a fact. Some embodiments provide a graphical user interface (GUI) for manually processing tags associated with a document. Further, different embodiments provide a system for performing iterative fact-extraction on a set of documents.

Abstract: Voice stream augmented note taking may be provided. An audio stream associated with at least one speaker may be recorded and converted into text chunks. A text entry may be received from a user, such as in an electronic document. The text entry may be compared to the text chunks to identify matches, and the matching text chunks may be displayed to the user for selection.

Abstract: A text string may be captured when a user initiates a selection event in a web browser. In response to the selection event, the text string is derived from the selected element(s) in a rendered web page. The text string is automatically placed in a web-search text-entry field of the web browser without further instructions from the user. The user can modify the text string before querying a web-search engine.

Abstract: Embodiments herein include a method that receives a previously created variable data print file. The method iterates through pages of the variable data print file to identify reused objects and decomposes the variable data print file into a decomposed document template, comprising the reused objects, and into a decomposed (factored) variable data file, comprising objects other than the reused objects. In some embodiments the method can further decompose the reused object into image and graphic objects, and into non-image and non-graphic objects. This allows the image and graphic objects, the non-image and non-graphic objects, and/or the decomposed variable data file to be edited without needing to go back to the application that-originally generated the variable print data file.

Abstract: Described is a technology by which a user pastes selected data into a command line of a program, including when the selected data is non-textual. Upon detecting the paste (or drop) action, a variable name is automatically generated and inserted at the current point in a command line, where it acts as a proxy for the pasted data itself. A data structure comprising the selected data or transformed data corresponding to that selected data is maintained in program storage, e.g., RAM allocated to the program. In one aspect, a handler may be used to transform the data from one format into another that may be used by a particular program. For example, text may be reformatted into an array on which the program operates. The handler may be selected from a plurality of possible handlers, including customized handlers.

Abstract: A handheld electronic device includes a reduced QWERTY keyboard and is enabled with disambiguation software. The device provides output in the form of a default output and a number of variants. The output is based largely upon the frequency, i.e., the likelihood that a user intended a particular output, but various features of the device provide additional variants that are not based solely on frequency and rather are provided by various logic structures resident on the device. The device enables editing during text entry and also provides a learning function that allows the disambiguation function to adapt to provide a customized experience for the user. The disambiguation function can be selectively disabled and an alternate keystroke interpretation system provided.

Abstract: A communications redirection service is implemented when current communications service data for an account is forwarded through a packet switching network. An instruction is received through the packet switching network for the communications redirection service to redirect communications addressed to the first receiving communications address to a second receiving communications address when the communications are from a specified sending communications address. The instruction for the communications redirection service is forwarded to a communications service manager through a data network. Communications addressed to the first receiving communications address are redirected to the second receiving communications address in accordance with the instruction for the communications redirection service when the communications are from the specified sending communications address.

Abstract: In an example embodiment, an online advertising management platform maintains an account that includes data relating to an order for advertising provided by an ad network affiliated with the platform. When the platform receives a login that identifies a user as having access rights to the account, the platform displays a view that includes a window displaying data relating to the order and a toolbar in a standardized location relative to the window. The toolbar includes a tab. When the user clicks on the tab, the platform displays a tabbed window that includes a list of the informational messages, regardless of whether an informational message on the list has been read or dismissed by another user allowed access to the account. The platform locates the window contiguous to the toolbar over some but not all of the view displaying the data relating to the order.

Abstract: A system and method for configuring identification codes associated with electronic records is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a user interface enables a user to create or edit an identification code configuration by displaying identification code characteristics and receiving corresponding identification code characteristic selections. The identification code characteristics include information segments, separators, and identification code types. The identification code characteristic selections are stored in a database or other data storage structure so as to define the identification code configuration. Preferably, the identification code configuration is used to generate a plurality of identification codes each of which is associated with and provides information about an electronic record.

Abstract: A method of controlling a portable electronic device includes rendering a first virtual keyboard corresponding to a first language on a touch-sensitive display of the portable electronic device, rendering a second selectable feature corresponding to a second language when the first virtual keyboard is rendered on the touch-sensitive display, detecting selection of the second selectable feature corresponding to the second language, and rendering a second virtual keyboard corresponding to the second language in response to detecting the selection.

Abstract: A method including obtaining metadata specifying screens based on a business logic of the matter management workflow, generating, based on the metadata, the screens each including screen objects, where the matter management workflow includes a sequence of the screen objects specified by the metadata based on the business logic, receiving a matter management user input via the screen objects to navigate the matter management workflow, receiving a screen tester user input specifying a test instruction including a first specification based on the screen objects, generating, using the first specification and without further user intervention, a test sequence including a second specification based on the metadata, applying the test sequence to the screen objects to generate a first result depicting an evaluation of navigating the matter management workflow according to the business logic, and generating an alert in response to the first result indicating a violation to the business logic.

Abstract: A graphic rendering of searchable fields of a database, which rendering simulates a geometric solid having a plurality of facets. Each facet, which has its own thematic identity, can accept search inquiries and display results. Virtual manipulation of the geometric solid will expose a succeeding facet to direct view, which succeeding facet may reflect both data uncovered from a prior search inquiry and also related data which was not directly requested. The facets enable the user to organize data according to the various thematic identities of basic facts. The geometric solid assists in enabling the user to intuitively grasp how best to retrieve and interrelate data from the database. Subsidiary geometric solids more limited in content than the original geometric solid may be generated and displayed.

Abstract: Embodiments provide interactive computer-implemented rich heterogeneous content authoring features. In an embodiment, a computer-implemented method includes an interaction model that uses an input state associated with a user operation and an electronic page interface to provide an interactive authoring experience. In one embodiment, a note taking client can include an interaction model used in part to automatically control aspects of an electronic note page. Other embodiments are included and available.

Abstract: Mobile devices provide security based on geographic location. With such a technique, a mobile device may automatically check its current location against geographic information as to the location(s) in which it is permitted to operate. When the user attempts access to the device, the mobile device will prompt the user for his/her credential only if the geographic location matches an allowed location. The user gains access then by inputting information corresponding to the credential, e.g. username and password, of a valid user. In the examples, if the geographic location does not match an allowed location, the mobile device provides a warning to the user, and the user is not allowed to enter any credential information. Optionally, the mobile device may send an alert message about the device being taken outside a specified boundary, e.g. to report the situation to other personnel.

Abstract: A method includes displaying a first application view. A first input is detected, and an application view selection mode is entered for selecting one of concurrently open applications for display in a corresponding application view. An initial group of open application icons in a first predefined area and at least a portion of the first application view adjacent to the first predefined area are concurrently displayed. The initial group of open application icons corresponds to at least some of the concurrently open applications. A gesture is detected on a respective open application icon in the first predefined area, and a respective application view for a corresponding application is displayed without concurrently displaying an application view for any other application in the concurrently open applications. The open application icons in the first predefined area cease to be displayed, and the application view selection mode is exited.

Abstract: A graphical user interface for use on a computer coupled to an enterprise electronic medical records system for accepting order data including an order entry window corresponding to an identified order, the identified order including one or more parameters. The graphical user interface also including an expandable order editing box linked to the order entry window and responsive to identification of the order and adapted to accept an input from a user. The graphical user interface also including an order parameter manager coupled to the enterprise electronic medical records system that is adapted to populate at least one of the one or more order parameters based on information associated with a patient for whom the order is being placed. Abstract: A system and method for intelligent camera display based on selective searching is provided. The method includes searching a plurality of devices for compliance with a search criteria, and performing an action substantially simultaneously on all devices in the plurality of devices that are in compliance with the search criteria.
