Abstract: A method for obtaining data from a user includes receiving a row selection in an input grid, where each column is associated with one of a plurality of primary input variables, and where each row is configured to display primary data corresponding with the plurality of primary input variables, receiving a request to expand the row to display an input form, where the input form comprises a plurality of fields, where each of the plurality of fields is associated with one of a plurality of supplementary input variables, and where the plurality of fields are configured to display supplementary data corresponding with the plurality of supplementary input variables. The method further includes expanding the row to display the input form, obtaining and storing supplementary data for the input form, collapsing the row to hide the input form, and displaying a summary of supplementary data stored for the input form.

Abstract: Consumers may centrally store, manage and distribute information using an information account stored in a central data repository. The information account is accessible from any client device, without the need to permanently store or install proprietary software thereon. The information account comprises a plurality of consumer information elements stored in a tagged data format. A host server hosts a database management system for accessing the information account. A client-side application may manage communications with host server. Alternatively, the client device may interact with a vendor server that executes a server-side application for managing communications with the host server. In response to a request from the consumer, the host server may filter selected consumer information elements from the information account and transmit the filtered consumer information elements to the client-side or server-side application.

Abstract: User interfaces, methods, systems, and computer-readable media for activating and/or displaying text input systems on display devices may include: (a) displaying a text input system activation target at a user changeable location on a display device; (b) receiving user input directed to the activation target; and (c) activating a text input system in response to the user input. Such user interfaces, methods, and systems further may include (d) displaying a pre-interaction condition of the activation target; (e) receiving user input directed to the activation target in this pre-interaction condition; and (f) changing an appearance of the activation target from the pre-interaction condition to a larger size and/or a different visual appearance in response to this user input. Additional aspects of this invention relate to computer-readable media for providing user interfaces, systems, and methods as described above.

Abstract: Textboxes are provided to support both standard textbox operations and handwriting input. A textbox may be displayed as a standard textbox, receive input from a keyboard, a pointing device (e.g., a mouse), and/or a handheld writing device (e.g., an electronic pen or stylus), and interpret the input to perform standard textbox operations. Based on various user actions, the textbox is displayed as an enlarged textbox that provides a writing surface for receiving input from the handheld writing device that is interpreted as handwriting input. Text is recognized from the handwriting input, and the text from the enlarged textbox is synchronized with the textbox.

In accordance with one embodiment, there is provided a method for quick text entry, comprising: displaying a text entry user interface within a graphical user interface, the text entry user interface element including a text entry field; receiving text in the text entry field; storing the text received in text entry field in memory in response to corresponding input.

Abstract: In general, this disclosure describes techniques for providing a user of a computing device with the ability to perform text-entry operations (e.g., using a touch screen) on a computing device. Specifically, the techniques of this disclosure may, in some examples, allow the user to use gestures on a mobile computing device to perform text entry and editing operations. Using a presence-sensitive user interface device (e.g., a touch screen), the user may use gestures to enter text into text-based applications (e.g., short message service (SMS) messages, e-mail message, uniform resource locators (URLs), and the like). Using visually-defined areas on the touch screen, the user may utilize gestures of certain patterns, relative to the defined areas, to indicate text entry and editing operations such as, for example, deleting characters and words, indicating a space or return characters, and the like.

Abstract: A system and method for creating and managing custom lesson plans. A computing device includes a lesson planning tool that receives a lesson creation request from a user. The lesson planning tool is responsive to the lesson creation request to create a customized lesson plan based on game data and rule data included in the lesson creation request. The lesson planning tool also creates and stores a customized lesson plan record in a database. The customized lesson plan record identifies the customized lesson plan and audience members that are eligible to access the customized lesson plan. The lesson planning is responsive to a lesson plan request from another user to determine whether the other user is eligible to access customized lessons plans stored in the database based on audience data included in the lesson plan request.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to assist an emergency dispatcher in responding to emergency calls reporting incidents involving a hate crime or other anti-social behavior toward a victim. The systems and methods can include an emergency police dispatch protocol configured to facilitate uniform and consistent gathering of information about an incident being reported and configured to determine a determinant value corresponding to an appropriate emergency dispatch response. A diagnostic tool is provided to aid the dispatcher in gathering information about the victim that pertains to one or more bias categories. The victim information can be used to identify one or more potential biases that could have motivated the perpetrator of the hate crime or other anti-social behavior. The diagnostic tool facilitates uniform and consistent gathering of victim information pertaining to various bias types.

The system may include a processor and a computer-readable medium operatively coupled to the processor and including a memory in which is stored a database configured to catalog collections of data associated with and identifying hardware items. The system may also include a graphical user interface (GUI) configured to display at least some of the data associated with and identifying a hardware item including. Abstract: A system and method for providing an interface for an electronic or computing device. In one embodiment, the invention includes a keyboard positioned adjacent to the posterior side of the computing device in such a way that the user can operate the device in an easy and convenient manner, while at the same time maximizing the amount of available display space to the user viewing the anterior side of the device. In this embodiment the user operates the keyboard while it is hidden from view behind the display. The invention also provides several mechanisms that allow the user to become familiar with this approach to operating the device, some of which are applicable to the improvement of standard keyboards for many common purposes and uses. These mechanisms include, but are not limited to, appropriately spaced keys, chorded keyboards, tactile feedback mechanisms, and key indication, selection and verification methods.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a contextual user interface for a computer system including a database and processor. According to one embodiment, a plurality of activities are associated with an application and stored in the database. Furthermore, a set of activities from the plurality of activities are displayed on a user interface. Upon receiving an activity request for a desired activity from a user, the processor determines the application associated with the desired activity and identifies data to be accessed by the application. The contextual user interface is then configured to automatically launch the application along with the identified data.

Abstract: Various embodiments are described for determining a search configuration for a network site. A plurality of network sites are accessed in a server, and for each of the network sites, it is determined whether a search text box exists in a network page of the network site. A search is automatically performed using a search term in the search text box if the search text box exists in the network page and it is determined whether a search term can be identified in association with a search result network page generated from the search. A search configuration is stored that indicates where the search term can be identified in a future network page resulting from a search performed on the network site.

Abstract: A handheld electronic device includes a reduced QWERTY keyboard and is enabled with disambiguation software. The device provides output in the form of a default output and a number of variants. The output is based largely upon the frequency, i.e., the likelihood that a user is likely to have intended a particular output, but various features of the device provide additional variants that are not based solely on frequency and rather are provided by various logic structures resident on the device. The device provides a learning function that allows the disambiguation function to adapt to provide a customized experience for the user. The learning function is disabled, however, when the relevant words are found to be in a special category for which frequency learning, i.e., frequency revision, is not employed.

Abstract: A portable electronic device includes a rendering circuit to visualize large format data files on a narrow display. The large format data files are rendered using either a desktop display mode or a mobile display mode. The desktop display mode renders the data file using data file-specified dimensions and resolutions. The data file is viewable in its entirety by automatic scrolling achieved by moving a cursor near the edge of the display. Data file elements may be edited while in desktop display mode. The mobile display mode renders the elements of the data file as a list with minimal regard for spatial orientation. Navigation in mobile display mode is field-to-field.

Abstract: A method of interacting with an electronic device and an electronic device so configured are described. In accordance with one embodiment, there is provided a method of interacting with an electronic device. A command line having an input field is displayed on a display of the electronic device. An input string is received in the input field. The input string is disambiguated into one or more commands which match the input string. Each matching command is displayed on the display each as an entry in a command list. In some embodiments, each entry in the command list is selectable in response to selection input.

Abstract: There is disclosed a method and apparatus for providing count-constrained user interface controls. The user interface displays a user input field and a predetermined count limit of user input parameters for the user input field on a user interface on a display. Once user interaction with the user input field is accepted, the user interface is updated such that the predetermined count limit on the display one of (a) blinks if a total count of the user input parameters exceeds the predetermined count limit, (b) changes color if the total count of the user input parameters equals the predetermined count limit, and (c) returns to a default color matching other aspects of the user interface if the total count of the user input parameters is less than the predetermined count limit.

Abstract: A communication device supports leaving a message using a communication device input interface when the device is in a locked state. The communication device may be a network telephone having a display interface and a user input interface. The communication device may be configured to transition to a locked state, store a message based on input received at the locked communication device, and present the message to an intended recipient. The message may be presented to the intended recipient upon unlocking the device (e.g., stored locally and presented when the phone is unlocked), presented to the intended recipient in accordance with communication settings (e.g., delivered to an email account, cell phone, etc.), or otherwise delivered.

Consistent with some embodiments of the invention, the navigation bar provides a unified path or user experience for searching for user-generated content that has been posted to a service, and posting new user-generated content to the service. By providing a unified path to perform both the searching and posting functions, the likelihood of the occurrence of redundant or duplicate data is reduced.

One example can facilitate generating a graphical user-interface (GUI) from image data that includes multiple semantically-labeled user-selectable anatomical structures. The example can locate a sub-set of the image data associated with the individual semantically-labeled user-selectable anatomical structure and can cause presentation of the sub-set of the image data on a subsequent GUI.

Abstract: A device and method for scheduling follow-up events in relation to an existing event record. The device receives an input follow-up request associated with the existing event record and automatically generates a follow-up event record having information in its field populated using the information contained in the existing event record. The date of the follow-up event is automatically generated based upon the date of the existing event record. If the existing event record is a recurring event, then the date of the follow-up event is based on the frequency of recurrence. The follow-up event record may be displayed for user editing and may be transmitted to the attendees to propose scheduling of the follow-up event.

Abstract: Embodiments provide in-place editing of data records via an editable visual representation within a displayed collection of static images. Each of the static images corresponds to at least one data record having at least one field. The field is non-editable by the user via the image. The plurality of images is provided to the user for browsing, navigation, searching, and the like. In response to the user selecting at least one of the displayed images, the selected image is converted to a layout-based visual representation having editable fields. The user interacts with the visual representation to add, modify, and/or delete data associated with the data record. The data record is updated, and the selected, static image is regenerated with the data from the user.

Abstract: Methods and systems for repurposing toolbar input areas are provided. Input areas of toolbars may be repurposed such that the input area is linked to one or more applications. An input area may be linked to one or more applications upon receiving a linking mode selection from a user. Such linking causes results associated with the user input to be filtered by the one or more applications associated with the input area. Input areas may also display results filtered by one or more applications without being directly linked to the applications.

The system and method also operates to process the plurality of text-based characters as the password. Abstract: A method and system provide automated claim chart generation. The method and system import claims and related information regarding at least one patent The method and system create an initial claim chart for the patent, receive user edits to the claim elements of the claims, and process the user edits to the claim elements. After detecting a user edit to an element a first claim that is repetitive of a second claim, the method and system automatically update the corresponding element of the second claim. The method and system create a product template that includes product identifiers, product characteristics, and evidence showing that the products have the product characteristics. The method and system perform a case analysis, receive an input mapping the product characteristics to the claim elements in the initial claim chart, and generate a claim infringement analysis chart combining the mapped claim elements and the product characteristics.

Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products for the generation and management of knowledge base data to support automated e-health diagnosis systems are disclosed. Such systems, methods and computer program products provide the ability for a subject matter expert, without computer programming skills, to generate a knowledge base consisting of XML code that may be integrated into an automated e-health diagnosis system in order to provide real-time decision support. The subject matter expert may use the present invention, for example, to identify the symptoms that are relevant to a particular diagnosis, weigh symptoms relative to a given diagnosis, detail the rationale for particular decisions, and provide detailed treatment recommendations with regard to each individual diagnosis. The output of this tool may be an XML knowledge base that may be integrated, in a plug and play fashion, with the e-health diagnosis system.

Abstract: A method and device for entering data in an application is disclosed. The method may comprise displaying a graphical user interface (GUI) keyboard within the application, the keyboard comprising multiple identifier keys. A detection module may monitor the position of a pointer of a pointing device in relation to the multiple identifier keys and detects that the pointer of the pointing device has been positioned over one of the multiple identifier keys for a predetermined period of time, thereby detecting the selection of the identifier key. In response to detecting the selection, data associated with the selected identifier key may be generated and indication data representative of the generated data may be displayed in a data field.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein generally relate to methods and systems for configuring settings of a cell expansion system including a bioreactor. Through a user interface, a user may configure display settings, system settings, and settings associated with protocols for loading, growing and/or harvesting cells. In configuring settings for protocols and associated processes, a diagram view or window of the cell expansion system is displayed in embodiments. The diagram view displays the process settings as graphical user interface elements. Settings available for configuration are enabled for selection in the diagram view. The diagram view allows the user to visualize the settings available for task configuration and to configure enabled settings. Configured settings are stored and capable of retrieval for subsequent execution or modification of the applicable protocol.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of generating a set of goals is presented. The method entails receiving user input that includes items and an input value associated with each of the items. Individual values are assigned to the items based on the input value. The individual values are then summed to generate a total value, and the items are ranked according to the contributions of their respective individual values to the total value. A difference between the total value and a corresponding reference value is determined. The input value that is associated with the highest-ranking item is changed, and the total value and the difference are then recalculated using the changed input value. The process is repeated with the next highest-ranked item and the next until a condition is fulfilled. A goal is defined based on the changed input value of the items at the time the condition is fulfilled.
