Abstract: A user has a computing device with a minimally-featured keyboard and a display and employs such keyboard to enter text characters into the device. The user commands the device to navigate to a text field, and the device actuates a character entry application to assist the user. The character entry application presents in the display one of a strip of characters and a character box of characters that can be scrolled through by the user to select a particular one of the characters. The user scrolls through the characters by way of first predetermined keys on the keyboard, and selects a scrolled-to character by way of a second predetermined key on the keyboard. Thereafter, the user views in the display a representation of the selected character in the text field.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and apparatus for managing a user interface. In one illustrative embodiment, a number of tags associated with a group of fields is identified for display in the user interface responsive to receiving a request to display the user interface. A number of policies for displaying fields in the user interface comprising a priority for a tag in the number of tags is identified. The fields are displayed according to the priority for the tag in the number of tags identified in the number of policies.

Abstract: Methods, system, and computer program products for browsing content with a display area and input system that may be limited in comparison to more traditional browsing systems. Movement between and selection of interactive elements generally occurs in a navigation mode, whereas interaction with a single interactive element generally occurs in an edit mode. In navigation mode, a direction input selects the next interactive element in the direction indicated. If no interactive element is at least partially visible in the direction indicated or if a selected interactive element is only partially visible, the display scrolls. Switching between navigation mode and edit mode is based on the input received, in view of the input supported, by a particular interactive element. Interactive elements may be limited to the width of available display area.

Abstract: Embodiments relate generally to computer software and computing devices, and more particularly, to a system, an apparatus and a method configured to segregate data at an interface of a computing device to facilitate on-line electronic payment transactions. In one embodiment, a method includes presenting fields configured to accept a first type of data and to accept a second type of data for an on-line electronic payment transaction. The method includes generating an initialization signal for transmission to an isolated data management system to initialize a portion of a memory associated with first type of data, responsive to an interaction with a field, receiving data from the field, and generating a save signal to save the data from the field in a portion of the memory. This can be responsive to a second interaction with the field.

Abstract: An input method editor (IME) described herein couples scenarios of the input of the user with specific network services to offer more relevant and richer candidates for higher input productivity. Data relating to a computer application in which the input candidates are to be input and/or context relating to a user-submitted query is collected and analyzed to determine a scenario. The input candidates may include text candidates and rich candidates. The IME may select a scenario-tuned and type specific engine to identify the text candidates and/or rich candidates. The scenario-tuned text candidate engines leverage scenario-tuned language models and lexicons, and the scenario-tuned rich candidate engines leverage scenario-relevant web services, such as image, mapping, and video search, when available and appropriate.

Abstract: Various embodiments provide a method that comprises receiving a set of segments from a text field, analyzing the set of segments to determine at least one of a target subtext or a target meaning associated with the set of segments, and identifying a set of candidate emoticons where each candidate emoticon in the set of candidate emoticons has an association between the candidate emoticon and at least one of the target subtext or the target meaning. The method may further comprise presenting the set of candidate emoticons for entry selection at a current position of an input cursor, receiving an entry selection for a set of selected emoticons from the set of candidate emoticons, and inserting the set of selected emoticons into the text field at the current position of the input cursor.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for defining the processes in a processing plant are disclosed. In one embodiment, the system uses input forms to allow a user to define the processes, chemicals, process streams, and sampling points in the plant in a way that requires no programming code to be written by the person defining the plant. In one embodiment, the electronic form-based user-configurable system can be used to configure and manage multiple plants belonging to one organization. The plant definition can be used to log information about the plant. The logged information can be used to generate reports or charts. Logging, reporting, and charting can be managed using input forms and without the user needing to write any computer code.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products automatically creates a calendar entry for an electronic calendar application. A graphical user interface is displayed having a text field and a date and time field. Whenever a user wishes to create a calendar entry, the user populates the text field and the date and time field. Abstract: Some embodiments provide a credibility system including an interface portal for presenting a holistic view of entity credibility. To provide the holistic view, the credibility system aggregates credibility data from multiple data sources. The aggregated credibility data is processed and ordered to present different dimensions of entity credibility, with each dimension graphically presented in the interface portal through an interactive credibility module. In some embodiments, the credibility data associated with each credibility module is processed to produce at least one value that quantifiably represents the credibility data. In some embodiments, the credibility data associated with each credibility module is hierarchically ordered to present the credibility data in a drill-down fashion with each hierarchical layer presenting more detailed credibility data for better understanding the credibility data presented in the preceding layer.

Abstract: Predicted input data is obtained by initially acquiring a set of operations that are performed on non-editable user interface elements of a user interface prior to a subsequent data input into an editable user interface of the user interface. The set of operations is then classified into a pattern class based on the operations in the set and the subsequent data input that corresponds to the set. Subsequently, a pattern type for the pattern class is generated that describes a relationship between the set of operations and the subsequent data input. Accordingly, when a new set of operations is received, input data is predicted for the new set by applying the pattern type to the new set.

Abstract: Techniques and structures that facilitate text operations in a bitmap-based document are described. In some embodiments, a bitmap image, as well as one or more data structures that may include text code data and text coordinate data, may be generated from an original document. Text coordinate data may relate a location of the text code data to a location in the bitmap image. In some embodiments, a bitmap representation of text and one or more data structures, that may include a set of coordinates of the bitmap representation of text and text code data corresponding to the set of coordinates and the bitmap image may be received. Text operations may be performed on the bitmap representation of text.

Abstract: Techniques that facilitate review of bitmapped representations of text in a file are described. In some embodiments, one or more signals representative of cursor movements over a bitmapped representation of text in a bitmap image may be received. One or more selected text elements may be determined based on the cursor movements. Determining may include searching a data structure, separate from the bitmap image, which includes information regarding text element locations corresponding to the bitmapped text representation in the bitmap image. A portion of the bitmapped representation of text corresponding to the determined selected text elements may be highlighted.

An automated method adapted to set up and host a virtual event includes: receiving a set of event parameters from an event planner; generating a 3D immersive event space based at least partly on the parameters; and providing the 3D event space to multiple participants able to access a URL associated with the event space using a web browser.

Abstract: Inputting in a textbox comprises: monitoring a related event of inputting text in a textbox; providing an extended window for displaying excess text in response to detecting that the text exceeds the textbox; hiding the extended window, and storing a state of inputted context and the inputted text in response to a monitored event that the textbox loses focus; and displaying the extended window and the textbox, with their text, according to the stored state of inputted context in response to monitoring again the related event of inputting text in the textbox after monitoring the event that the textbox loses the focus. A global view can thus be provided for a user, whereby the user is capable of seeing at one time the content as a whole inputted by himself/herself, and immediately locating the last text inputted when the user leaves the textbox and then comes back for inputting.

One or more selections of input controls from previous data states of the user interface can be received. Data associated to those selections of input controls can be associated with corresponding input controls in a current session dialog of the user interface.

Abstract: Displaying graphical indicators, instead of data, based on user-defined conditions. The user can specify conditions for displaying graphical indicators instead of actual data by specifying a test, values, and an image. The graphical indicators can be pre-assigned images that are dynamically applied based on the underlying text or numeric data values. Graphical indicators allow the user to visually represent data types or categories with graphics, based on the user's conditions. Different conditions can be specified for a given data field and each condition can be associated with a particular graphical indicator. Prioritized processing of data conditions allow for complex control of which indicator will be displayed to visually represent the data. When the underlying data in a field changes, the criteria can be reapplied and the field dynamically updated to the appropriate indicator.

The device detects a gesture on the value selection bar and, in response to, displays the value selection bar at a second length. While the value selection bar is displayed at the second length, the device detects a third user input that moves the value selection object within the value selection bar and, in response, enters a second value within the range of values into the first numerical value field based on a position of the value selection object on the value selection bar.

Abstract: Techniques for providing a single text field and multiple different types of user input modes for inputting information into the single text field are described herein. In some instances, a user may enter a first portion of text into the text field in a first user input mode before inputting a second portion of text into the field in a second user input mode. The techniques may enforce a first set of rules associated with the first user input mode while the user enters the first portion of text. The techniques may then enforce a second, different set of rules associated with the second user input mode while the user enters the second portion of text. As such, the techniques enable a user to provide two or more different pieces of information into a single text field.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for substantially automatically generating a device capabilities file for a device in a printing environment. Features and aspects hereof provide for providing an XML schema (XMLS) file representing the available features of the device and then substantially automatically generating a device capabilities file from the XMLS file. The XMLS file may be substantially automatically generated by appropriate computing tools based on provided JDF job tickets for the device or may be generated by any other means and provided for generation of the device capabilities file. The device capabilities file may be generated by parsing the hierarchical tree structured XMLS file to identify attributes and elements therein. Each attribute is then translated to a corresponding device capabilities entry representing the available features of the device and setting values for each feature to generate the device capabilities file.

Abstract: Methods for sending a file stored in a first format on a non-mobile device to a mobile device in a second format suitable for viewing on the mobile device are provided. In one aspect, a method includes receiving a request to transmit a file converted from a first format to a second format to a mobile device, and storing the file in the second format suitable for viewing on the mobile device. The method also includes sending an access notification for the converted file to the mobile device. The access notification provides access to the converted file. Systems, graphical user interfaces, and machine-readable media are also provided.

Abstract: A graphics or image rendering system, such as a map image rendering system, receives image data from an image database in the form of vector data that defines various image objects, such as roads, geographical boundaries, etc., and textures defining text strings to be displayed on the image to provide, for example, labels for the image objects. The imaging rendering system renders the images such that the individual characters of the text strings are placed on the image following a multi-segmented or curved line. This rendering system enables text strings to be placed on a map image so that the text follows the center line of a curved or angled road or other image feature without knowing the specifics of the curvature of the line along which the text will be placed when creating the texture that stores the text string information.

Abstract: A broadcast receiver and method for controlling the same are discussed. According to an embodiment, the broadcast receiver includes a display unit, a communication unit configured to establish an Internet access and receive a broadcast, and a control unit. The control unit displays on the display unit a text input box selectively usable for a first search category and a second search category, and displays a current category indicator indicating a current search category of the text input box. When the current category indicator is selected to change the current search category, the current search category of the text input box is changed from the first search category to the second search category, and an appearance of the current category indicator for the text input box is changed to indicate the changed search category.

Abstract: A terminal device for executing an application providing a search service is provided. The terminal device may include a touch sensing display, one or more processors, and a memory. The application is configured to be stored in the memory and implemented by the one or more processors, and includes a first interface providing a code to display a first search interface corresponding to a text-based search on the touch sensing display, and a second interface providing a code to display a second search interface on the touch sensing display, when a call interaction of the second search interface corresponding to a recognition search is sensed in response to a touch input on the touch sensing display while displaying the first search interface.

Abstract: A computer implemented system and method presents search results in various forms upon a physical display. The spacing and movement of presented search results may be subjected to system defined gravitational forces wherein presented search results are shown as spheres or other icons of various sizes positioned at various distances from the center of the display. Displayed search results with greater ranking are displayed as relatively larger spheres or icons nearer the center of a display as compared to lower ranking results, which are smaller and displayed further afield. Ranking is shown as a matter of degree, rather than just as an ordinal list as in the related art. Attributes, such as link age, quantity, and other characteristics, of represented websites and various interconnections among represented websites are depicted by user controlled toggles.

Abstract: A method executed at a client computer accesses a data record having a fixed set of predefined fields and a set of custom fields. Each predefined field has a predefined field name and a field value, and each custom field has a user-specified field name and a field value. The method displays the data record in a graphical user interface, which includes data entry controls for user specification of a field name and a field value. The method receives input from a user that includes a user-specified field name in the data entry controls. When the user-specified field name matches a field name of a predefined field, the method stores a user-supplied value in that predefined field. When the user-specified field name does not match the field name of any predefined field, the method stores the user-specified field name and the user-supplied value in an allocated custom field.

Abstract: A system to compare a reference image of a text character, word or phrase with another image of the character, word or phrase that was rendered by a text rendering engine. Differences between the reference image and the rendered image may be recorded for subsequent analysis. Performance of a text rendering engine producing text according to typographical rules applicable to a natural language can be evaluated by one with no knowledge or ability to read the natural language.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a credibility system including an interface portal for presenting a holistic view of entity credibility. To provide the holistic view, the credibility system aggregates credibility data from multiple data sources. The aggregated credibility data is processed and ordered to present different dimensions of entity credibility, with each dimension graphically presented in the interface portal through an interactive credibility module. Abstract: A system and method of creating annotations for graphical user interface (GUI) objects is provided. The annotations may be based on best candidate GUI objects that are in the vicinity of GUI objects that need annotation. The best candidate GUI object may be selected based on the position of an unannotated GUI object, a position of candidate GUI objects, a role of the unannotated GUI object, and a precedence criteria of the unannotated GUI object. The precedence criteria may include a position preference for candidate GUI objects in relation to unannotated GUI objects. The annotations may also be based on information within a self-described GUI object. Options can be specified to define how the annotations are extracted from candidate GUI objects and self-described GUI objects. The annotation of GUI objects can assist non-technical users in the automated testing and documentation of GUIs.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are tools and techniques for using a single-finger single touch to zoom content. In one embodiment disclosed herein, a single-finger single touch on a touch screen displaying at least a page of content is detected. At least in response to the detecting the single-finger single touch, a page zoom is performed.

Abstract: A list authoring surface (LAS) is provided that includes a lightweight user interface component for entering, displaying, manipulating, and providing reminders for one or more tasks that takes the place of hand-written notes, scraps of paper, or “sticky” notes. The list authoring surface may be deployed across a multitude of software applications and may be readily accessed anywhere on a stationary or mobile desktop or display screen. Information may be manually or automatically entered into the list authoring surface user interface. An event timeline that uses a “fuzzy” reminder method allows for reminders to be associated with tasks where some tasks must be accomplished or must occur at hard dates/times, but where other tasks may be accomplished or may occur during soft or “fuzzy” date/time ranges.

Abstract: An apparatus may generate a text entry with a user interface. The apparatus may include a display, a user input device, a memory and a processor. The apparatus may display single character user input controls and multi-character user input controls on the display. Each of the single character user input controls and the multi-character user input controls may be buttons selectable with the user input device. A single character user input control may correspond to a single character and a multi-character user input control may correspond to a group of characters. The apparatus may display one of the multi-character user input controls in a display region and other user input controls outside of the display region. If the multi-character user input control is selected, the apparatus may replace the multi-character user input control with a second set of single character user input controls in an expanded display region.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product are presented for intercepting data entry by a proxy server to automatically define data entry fields in a webpage. The proxy server counts a number of instances in which a particular type of data is entered into each field in the webpage. If the number of instances exceeds a predetermined number for a specific field, then subsequent users are prompted to enter data of that particular type in that specific field.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and system for presetting an input mode for an input box, wherein the method comprises: in response to an input box being to receive an input, making a query for an input mode corresponding to the input box recorded in an input method; and presetting the input mode found through the query as the input mode for the input box. With the disclosed method and system, when a user needs to input information in an input box in accessing an application or the internet, the input method can automatically preset a desired input mode for the input box according to the use history of the input box, thus improving the user's experience.

Abstract: There is presented a method and system for providing a compact graphical user interface for flexible filtering of data. The method comprises showing a search interface on a display device for filtering a content set by a plurality of domains, including a first domain, displaying, within the search interface, a first graphical representation of a parameter set of the first domain in response to a selecting of the first domain, receiving a first parameter subset from the first graphical representation, filtering a content set using the first parameter subset to obtain a search result, and displaying the search result on a display device. The search interface includes a temporally visible menu for selecting parameter sets of the domains and a compact single line query box to display graphical representations of parameter sets or to provide a conventional text entry box.

Abstract: A system and method for online product design. An electronic product template having a number of pre-defined text fields and template editing tools for allowing the user to incorporate user text into the text fields are downloaded to a user computer. The current state of the product design is retained at the user computer. When the user has entered text for incorporation into a text field, the text for that text field and the associated font information are uploaded to the server. The server creates an image of the text field and downloads the text image to the user computer for incorporation into the displayed product design according to text positioning information retained at the user computer. Each text field in the design is a separate image that can be individually and independently edited and positioned within the product design.
