Abstract: Systems and methods for managing display power consumption are disclosed. In some embodiments first information is displayed in an available display area including a first portion of a display screen in a configuration having a set of portions. The set of portions includes the first portion of the display screen, which is configured in a powered-on state to perform display functions and receive user input, and a second portion of the display screen, which is configured in a powered-off state. Responsive to a user indication in the in the first portion, the second portion is added to the available display area by transitioning the second portion to the powered-on state to perform display functions and receive user input. Second information is displayed in the second portion.

Abstract: A reusable authentication component may be integrated into a web page to communicate with an authentication server and authenticate a user to the web page. The reusable authentication component may implement a complex authentication process, including multiple user interfaces to receive multiple assurances of user identity and user confirmation of previously stored mutual authentication data. The authentication process may be performed by the authentication component without refreshing or redirecting the parent web page until completion of a successful user authentication, after which the parent web page may receive authentication data and refresh to provide user specific and/or secure user data on the web page.

Abstract: A character input device provides a function of deleting an unconfirmed inputted character which the user is currently inputting, and a function of changing a confirmed character string to an unconfirmed state to a single correction key. Therefore, the character input device enables the user to carry out a character input efficiently by using limited space without requiring an excessive operation and arrangement of a new key for reconversion. Further, because the character input device holds the information on confirmed character strings even after all the character strings have been confirmed, the character input device enables the user to arbitrarily select a character string which the user wants to correct at any time, and re-edit only the portion.

Abstract: A method provides, as part of a computer administration system, an administration interface that can operate almost any computerized device having a user interface. The computer administration system manages components of a computer system and the administration interface is operable to configure the components and to provide dynamic performance and configuration information of the components to the user as the components operate. The method provides a “commentary input” area on the administration interface while providing performance and configuration information of a specific component or a set of components. Thus, the method can receive comment(s) about the specific component(s) of the computerized system in the commentary input area. When this occurs, the method stores the comment(s) in a data store in a manner that associates the comment(s) with the specific component(s) that was being monitored. The method also automatically stores contemporaneous component data with each comment in the data store.

Abstract: Methods for supporting user data input are presented including receiving a page for display on a display unit, wherein the page includes a number of input fields; receiving a number of input support functions, where each of the number of input support functions is associated with each of the number of input fields; generating an alternative field for receiving the user data input; detecting an input field in accordance with a user selection; setting one of the input support functions associated with the input field to the alternative field; entering user data input into the alternative field; and copying the user data input entered into the alternative field to the input fields. In some embodiments, methods further include generating a tab index, where the tab index is configured to move the alternative field to a next input field in response to a tab key stroke.

Abstract: To provide a method, a program and a system for supporting the input of one or more execution parameters of predetermined software in an input field. The method includes: receiving input of a text character string including one or more execution parameters in the input field displayed on a display device; displaying one the display device one or more execution options of the predetermined software in such a manner that a user can select the options in response to selection of a part of the text character string by the user; and transforming the text character string so as to include at least one of the one or more execution options selected and displaying the transformed text character string on the display device. The one or more execution options displayed can vary with the type of selection of the part of the text character string.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a system, method and technique for operating a communication device. According to an embodiment, information contained in a contact record is displayed, where the information includes a plurality of entries. Each entry is associated with one of a plurality of communication types and includes an identifier for use with an application of the associated communication type. An input is detected corresponding to a user's selection of one of the plurality of entries. In response to the user's selection, the application of the communication type associated with the selected entry is automatically executed by initiating a communication using the identifier included in the selected entry.

Abstract: An electronic device and a method for inputting information through touch input device of an electronic device is provided. The method inputs information including at least one of symbols and characters through touching of a screen displayed on the touch input device, and executes a specific application capable of processing the input information.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing text entry on a limited-display device, such as a mobile device or in-vehicle device. In an embodiment, a partially transparent virtual overlay is generated and rendered on a display of the device on top of a user interface. Finger-written characters or character strings are received through the virtual overlay via a touch-screen of the device. The recognized characters or character strings are displayed in an input field of the user interface, such that the characters or character strings are visible through the partially transparent virtual overlay.

Abstract: A device, computer program and method for outputting linguistic information. The voice output device, for example, includes an output information acquisition unit acquiring linguistic information and attribute information. Attribute information includes an attribute added to each linguistic element included in the linguistic information. A tactile pattern storage unit stores a predetermined tactile pattern corresponding to each linguistic element. A tactile pattern acquisition unit acquires the tactile pattern from the tactile pattern storage unit. A voice output unit reads aloud the linguistic elements and a tactile pattern output unit outputs, in parallel with reading aloud each linguistic element, the tactile pattern corresponding to the attribute added to the linguistic element, thereby allowing a user to sense the tactile pattern by the sense of touch.

The method includes focusing on a selected text field and displaying a SIP, when the predefined text field is selected from among text fields, scroll-displaying the text fields in a display area in response to a requested scroll, when a user requests the scroll of the display area of the text fields, and identifying, from a result of the scroll display, whether the selected text field is being displayed in the display area, and determining whether text is to be entered into the selected text field.

The list of related symbols can include the related symbols and a description of each symbol. The related symbols can be a predefined list of symbols that are related to the current symbol input by similar appearance, similar sound, commonly observed error and/or shared keyboard key. The related symbols can include user-defined symbols.

Abstract: A computer implemented method and system for generating, communicating, and managing letters in different formats provide a letter management database (LMD) and a letter communication application (LCA) communicating with the LMD via a network. The LMD uploads, stores, aggregates, archives, curates, organizes, searches, and provides access to the letters. The LCA is accessible via a sender device and recipient devices and generates, communicates, manages, and provides access to the letters. The LCA generates a personalized letter based on a selection of displayed themes and writing style options, and media content and tags acquired from the sender device. The LCA acquires a selection of one or more delivery options and at least one recipient identifier from the sender device for delivering the generated personalized letter to one or more recipients and/or recipient devices. The LCA facilitates access to the generated personalized letter through one or more access modes via the LMD.

Abstract: A sketching and searching application for idea generation is described. In an embodiment, a software application is described which has a user interface which comprises a sketching area. When a user draws or annotates a sketch in the application, the application automatically searches for images based on the sketch and displays results in the form of images outside the sketching area. These images are used to inspire new ideas and to facilitate the creative process in a way that is closely linked with the sketching process. When the sketch is updated, additional searching is automatically performed and new results are displayed. In some examples the sketching area is deformable and deformation may cause new results to be displayed and in some examples the user is able to drag image results into the sketching area to enable tracing of the image or to include the image in the sketch.

Abstract: An intelligent abbreviated dialing feature can use a portion of a phone number as a shortcut to dialing. Any portion of a phone number can be input into a communications device such as by pressing buttons on the keypad or speaking into a microphone. A processor in the communications device or on a network accessible by the communications device can generate the phone number register from frequently dialed numbers. The processor can compare the input into the communications device against the phone number register. For each digit of the phone number that is input into the communications device, the processor can search the phone numbers and provide search results with the corresponding numbers. A phone number can be selected from the search results and dialed.

Abstract: Methods and systems for text disambiguation and context designation in incremental search are provided. A method for selecting items in response to ambiguous keystrokes entered by a user and unambiguous metadata associated with a previously selected search result includes receiving ambiguous keystrokes, selecting and presenting a first subset of items and metadata associated with the items presented based on the ambiguous keystrokes. The method also includes receiving a selection of one of the items from the user, and, in response to a locking operation received from the user, locking in fixed relation at least one of the ambiguous keystrokes to at least one metadata term associated with the selected item. The method further includes, subsequent to receiving the locking operation, selecting and presenting a second subset of items based at least in part on the locked metadata term, and presenting the second subset of items.

Combination cells, a Boolean combination of two or more selected search cells, are also movable and contain a combine icon, hit count, and an expression field. The Boolean query is depicted in a folder tree hierarchy, where search folders are shown within combination folders, which are represented as logical AND, OR, or MINUS folder icons. An applet in a browser accesses a server through the Internet.

Abstract: A system for producing automated medical reports. The interface includes a menu area and a medical report area which is distinct from the menu area. The menu area includes a list of names representing medical conditions. The doctor may make different selections of names from the menu area as the medical service is being rendered to build a report in the medical report area. If a medical condition is not listed in the menu area, the doctor may add a new field for it and select/enter a name and a descriptor for the new field. Whereby, the field is automatically added in the menu area, and the name is automatically displayed in the new field without exiting the report/interface. Upon receiving a user selection of the new name, the descriptor associated therewith is retrieved from the memory and added in the medical report area without exiting the report/interface.

Abstract: A network resource address substitution system and method including stored machine-readable coded instructions. When executed, the instructions cause a computing device to present to a user one or more graphical user interfaces (GUIs). One such GUI includes data entry fields for a user to enter each of a network resource address such as a URL, one or more ordered keywords, and a user-selectable actuator which, when selected, creates a network-accessible link between the NRA and the keyword(s). A created link is stored at a data record as a link entry including each of the NRA and the keyword(s). The instructions are further configured to present to a user a GUI enabling a user to enter and submit keyword(s) to access a saved link, and to access the linked URL. Users can further reserve a link, and a data record will indicate that the link is reserved against subsequent changes.

Abstract: A direction-based data entry system displays a field having an initial value and a field location. When the user selects the field, the direction-based data entry system enters a data entry mode in which an auxiliary data entry tool is not displayed. To enter a new value for the field, the user indicates movement across the display relative to the field. As the user indicates movement, the direction-based data entry system may display an indication of a new value for the field represented by the movement. When the new value is the value that the user wants entered into the field, the user terminates the movement, which causes the new value to be the current value for the field.

Abstract: A method of remotely controlling a mobile terminal is disclosed. According to an aspect, there is provided a method in which a computer connected to a mobile terminal remotely controls the mobile terminal, including: displaying a remote control window which is a user interface for receiving data for controlling the mobile terminal, on a screen of the computer; sensing an input of text data through manipulation of an input unit of the computer, and displaying the text data on a predetermined area of the remote control window; and transmitting the text data displayed on the predetermined area of the remote control window to the mobile terminal if a predetermined value is input through the input unit of the computer.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing graphical representations of resources related to passages of classic literature are provided. According to one implementation, a graphical user interface (GUI) is provided in which the GUI includes a search field configured to enable a user to enter a search term. The search term may be recognized as a subject focus element. The GUI also includes a bloom diagram window configured to display an initial bloom diagram having the subject focus element at a center location and resource elements related to the subject focus element at locations surrounding the center location. A passage window is configured to display one or more passages of a classic literary work, wherein the passages related to the subject focus element. Also, the GUI includes a resource window configured to display a description of the resource elements.

Abstract: Systems and methods for sharing previously-associated application data from a secure device can include a first device (e.g., a tablet computer) and a second device (e.g., a smartphone which can be a more secure device than the tablet computer) coupled to one another. The tablet computer can send a request to the smartphone for previously-associated input data associated with an application currently running on the tablet computer, an input field of the application, and an input entered in the input field of the application. The smartphone can transmit the previously-associated to the tablet computer. The previously-associated input data can include a browser history, frequently-visited websites, stored user credential data, auto-fill text data, or other previously-associated input data. As the previously-associated input data is stored on the smartphone (e.g., the more secure device), the likelihood of unauthorized access to the previously-associated input data can be reduced.

Abstract: A method of displaying a browser including a text field and a terminal for implementing the same are discussed. According to an embodiment, the method includes displaying a browser including at least one or more text fields, selecting a specific text field from the at least one or more text fields, and enlarging the selected text field. If a terminal user selects a specific text field, the selected text field is enlarged or a text field input window is generated. Accordingly, the present invention facilitates the terminal user to input prescribed information to the selected text field.

A display tag includes a sensing unit which captures an image displayed on a screen of an external tag writer, if a sensing unit is disposed opposite the screen; and a display unit which displays a captured image. Abstract: In a cooperative processing system for performing cooperative process between a portable terminal and a television terminal through a service server and a device control server, content and content information separately managed by a content server connected to the television terminal and the service server are searched based on a search condition extracted from the content or the content information reproduced and displayed by the portable terminal, and the search result of the content and the content information is seamlessly displayed on the television terminal. Consequently, the convenience of the user in content usage can be enhanced.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture provide the ability to define a floodplain encroachment. River reach and station information are received into a geographic information system (GIS). Floodplain encroachment values are defined using a graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI provides a simultaneous view of station identifiers for each station for which the floodplain encroachment is to be defined, profiles defined for each of the station identifiers, a method identification corresponding to each of the defined profiles, and a target water surface elevation change for each profile. The values are provided to a HEC-RAS engine which outputs analysis results that are simultaneously displayed in the GUI with the other information. The analysis results include a water surface elevation change, a top width, and a velocity for each profile-station pair. Users can modify the values and dynamically view the results from HEC-RAS in the GUI.

In an embodiment, a computer-implemented method includes an interaction model that uses an input state associated with a user operation and an electronic page interface to provide an interactive authoring experience. Abstract: The present invention is a device for processing text strings by displaying at least two bands of characters of an alphabet, each band having one character designated as the focus character, with the focus character of a first band being highlighted initially, and having a band switching means for switching the highlighted character to the focus character of another band, a character choosing means for switching the highlighted character in a band to a different character in the band, and a character selecting means for selecting the currently highlighted character. The character choosing means and band switching means are typically arrow buttons on a control device and the character selecting means is typically an “enter” button. The invention also includes the corresponding method of entering text strings into a text processing device.

Abstract: A handheld electronic device includes a reduced QWERTY keyboard and is enabled with disambiguation software. The device provides output in the form of a default output and a number of variants. The output is based largely upon the frequency, i.e., the likelihood that a user is likely to have intended a particular output, but various features of the device provide additional variants that are not based solely on frequency and rather are provided by various logic structures resident on the device. The device provides a learning function that allows the disambiguation function to adapt to provide a customized experience for the user. The learning function is disabled, however, when the relevant words are found to be in a special category for which frequency learning, i.e., frequency revision, is not employed.

Abstract: A subset of a plurality of input elements associated with a form to be rendered in a graphical user interface may be identified. Thereafter, the rendering of the form may be initiated such that the graphical user interface renders a form to include the subset of the plurality of input elements and to exclude input elements that are not within the subset. Related techniques, apparatuses, systems, and computer program products are also described.
