Abstract: A handheld device with a graphical user interface (GUI) for entering and displaying blueprint data as a hierarchical sequence of segments. A handheld device having a touchscreen and/or keys is used to sequentially enter line segments and arcs to enter blueprint data into the device. Each line segment or arc that is entered may be referenced to an existing endpoint or start point of a previously entered line segment or arc. A blueprint entered into the handheld device may be edited by modifying, deleting, or inserting a line segment or arc. When an edit is performed, the line segments and arcs in the sequence that follow the element being edited may be automatically modified to maintain continuity in the blueprint without disturbing prior segments in the sequence.

Abstract: Enabling search in a touchscreen device. This embodiment relates to electronic devices, and more particularly to electronic devices with a touchscreen. The principal object of this embodiment is to enable a user to perform a search in a text based data in a single step on a touch screen based device.

Abstract: Improved techniques are disclosed to associate emotions (or feelings) with digital assets, such as digital media assets. In one embodiment, a graphical user interface can be presented to assist a user in associating emotions or feelings with a digital asset (e.g., digital media asset). The emotions of a user can be graphically represented by images, such as icons. For example, by selecting one or more of the images or manipulating a user control in relation to the images, a user can associate (e.g., tag) emotions to a digital asset. Once digital assets are associated (e.g., tagged) with one or more emotions, operations (e.g., playlist creation, search, shuffle, etc.) can be performed based on emotions.

Abstract: An operating system program launch menu, such as a Start menu, provides various mechanisms for a user to quickly and efficiently locate and launch desired data items such as programs, data files, storage locations, and the like. A search box within the program launch menu may be used to quickly locate programs, documents, communications, and other data items. An auto-complete feature may be used, e.g., when the user restricts the locations searched for the user-entered search text. A most commonly used program list may include programs based on various criteria including both frequency of use and recent use, thereby always including a most recently used item. An all programs view may display programs and documents in a hosted-tree view within the original confines of the program launch menu, thereby negating the need to open sub-menus on top of a large portion of the desktop displayed on the display device.

Abstract: An input device comprises: an operation unit having a display part that can display a plurality of character keys and a touch screen; a subsequent input candidate search unit that, upon detection of contact to an area corresponding to a specific character key in the touch screen, searches among the input candidate string for an input candidate string with a first character being a specific character corresponding to the area thus detected, as a subsequent input candidate string; a subsequent input candidate determination unit that, with regard to the subsequent input candidate thus found, determines a subsequent character following the first character as a subsequent input candidate character; and a display exchange unit that displays a character key of the subsequent input candidate character thus determined, by exchanging with a character key arranged in the vicinity of a character key for the specific character as the first character.

Abstract: A tool for aiding a user author labels for drugs. The tool receives inputs that define requirements for a label, or aggregated requirements for a set of related labels. The requirements may be derived from inputs specifying values of label attributes and then be used to identify fields to appear in each of one or more labels to be generated. Information on fields may be used to dynamically render an interface through which a user may specify text strings to appear in each field when label text is generated. Input elements of the interface may be populated with lists of options identified based on the requirements. The requirements may also be used in generating similar labels and assessing the impact of changes, such as to regulatory requirements. The tool may be particularly useful for authoring labels for clinical trials in which multiple label formats for multiple countries may be generated.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method, a computer program, a device, an apparatus and a browser operable with a user interface having an output display and an input to receive signals from a plurality of user inputs, where at least one user input is a multi-function input operable in a first mode to provide a display control input, and in a second mode to provide another function, such as alphanumeric character input and, when operating the at least one user input in the first mode, to inhibit operation of the at least one user input in the second mode due to a change in content of the display in response to operation in the first mode. The first mode may be, as non-limiting examples, a zoom mode or a scroll mode.

Abstract: An applet may be downloaded or provided to a web browser when a user visits a site in order to protect data input by the user from being captured by malicious software, such as key loggers. The applet may present a user input field in the web browser and may generate a random sequence of low-level key stroke or mouse click events within the input field when the user enters information, such as a username and/or password. A listening key logger will receive a large amount of random data, whereas the applet will receive and buffer the actual user data that may be communicated to a remote site access by the user.

Abstract: An adaptive multi-line view user interface is provided that varies the manner in which data is displayed as the size of the user interface is changed. As the available horizontal space in the user interface becomes too small to display the text or data on a given display line, the data is rearranged to fit the available space. Text or data that will be truncated as the width of the user interface is decreased is moved to a separate display line beneath the line in which the truncated text or data was previously displayed. A maximum number of lines may be specified for displaying text or data. After the maximum number of lines is reached, additional text or data truncated by narrowing the width of the user interface is not displayed. The displayed lines of text or data may be displayed according to a progressively lighter font from line to line so that lines at or near the top of a given displayed text or data record are darker and more readily draw the attention of a reader.

Abstract: A text input method in a portable device and a portable device supporting the same are provided. The portable device includes, a touch screen including a display unit for displaying a text input area and a text display area including at least one consonant and vowel, and a touch panel provided at an upper side of the display unit for generating a touch event, and a control unit for controlling text displayed according to a touch event generated from the touch screen, in which the control unit detects multi-touch events for at least two key icons output on the text input area, and controls the display of a specific text composed of a combination of the multi-touched key icons based on the detected multi-touch events.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and machine-readable and executable instructions are provided for performing data operations while preserving graphical user interface real-estate. A data field with a context can be displayed on a graphical user interface. A query field that includes a number of entry fields that stretch in a first direction and are listed in a second direction can be displayed for filtering the data field on the graphical user interface, while maintaining the context of the data field, wherein the data field and the query field are displayed concurrently.

Abstract: A displayed map is overlaid with a map-based graphical user interface that provides a polygon layer and a point layer which work in tandem to simultaneously display both aggregated and disaggregated data across the displayed map. A selection of one of the regions of the polygon layer is received at the touch display from the user, and a request is submitted to a remote service administering the dataset for items in the dataset that reside in the selected region. The items in the dataset that reside in the selected region are received from the remote service, and the received items are rendered as points in the point layer, where the rendered points are bounded by the selected region.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes detecting that a first user is entering a text input at an input region of a computing device, wherein the input region includes multiple subregions and each subregion is associated with at least one character of a plurality of characters. The method also includes determining, for each character as the first user enters the text input, a probability that the character is next in the text input. The method further includes determining a size of each subregion based on the determined probability of the character associated with the subregion.

Abstract: There is provided an image segmentation apparatus and related method for enhancing accuracy of image segmentation based on user interaction. The image segmentation apparatus including an interface configured to, in response to an image displayed on the interface, receive information about the image from a user and a segmenter configured to segment the contour of a region of interest (ROI) in the image based on the information.

Abstract: Systems and methods for displaying a suggested query completion in a web browser window while providing for display a first webpage within a webpage display region of the web browser window are provided. A method includes, receiving an initiation of a query within an input box in a control region of the web browser window. The method also includes providing for display a dropdown region within the web browser window in response to the initiation of the query. The dropdown region includes suggested completions to the initiation of the query. At least one of the suggested completions is associated with a second webpage. The method also includes providing for display a webpage preview of the second webpage within the dropdown region.

Abstract: The present invention is directed in general to imaging technologies and more particularly to medical imaging and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) having an image display wherein system features and functions are provided to a user via active overlays located over displayed images. A system and method are provided to imbed an ability to interact with an image by activating traditional annotations that are displayed in conjunction with an image in a PACS. Users are able to access program functionalities in an improved, quicker, accurate and more intuitive means. More specifically, the present invention relates to providing the capability to customize multiple context menus, and flatten the command hierarchy of an imaging system. The present invention also provides the ability to “overload” current text and graphic annotations that are already displayed within an image of interest.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure provide a system for correlating document pages. The system receives a source image of a document page and a rendered image of a markup language page converted from the document page. The system then performs a correlation analysis between the source image and the rendered image. Next, the system determines a correlation factor between the source image and the rendered image based on the correlation analysis, wherein the correlation factor indicates a page fidelity between the document page and the markup language page converted from the document page.

Abstract: A display control part 11 displays on a display part 34 an application screen including a symbols display area displaying symbols and a software keyboard. The display control part 11 further displays the symbols entered by the user through touch operation on the software keyboard at a given position in the symbols display area. When a determination part 13 determines that a time t1 has elapsed since the last input operation on the software keyboard, the display control part 11 deletes the display of the software keyboard and extends the symbols display area.

Abstract: In response to user input, a predictive application mode is initiated that includes providing a user interface to select or enter user input. Based on the user input, multiple potentially relevant applications can be selected. The multiple applications can be executed with the user input as input to generate multiple results. The results can be analyzed to determine the relevancy and a ranked order. The results can then be displayed in a user interface that lists the results according the ranked order. User input can then be monitored to determine if a result, and the associated application, displayed in the ranked list is selected, or if the user enters the user input into an application that did not appear in the list. The user input detected by the monitoring process can be used as feedback to improve the predictive application selection process or that ranking of the results.

Abstract: New methods of relational database management are described, for example, to enable completion and checking of data in relational databases, including completion of missing foreign key values, to facilitate understanding of data in relational databases, to highlight data that it would be useful to add to a relational database and for other applications. In various embodiments, the schema of a relational database is used to automatically create a probabilistic graphical model that has a structure related to the schema. For example, nodes representing individual rows are linked to rows of other tables according to the database schema. In examples, data in the relational database is used to carry out inference using inference algorithms derived from the probabilistic graphical model. In various examples, inference results, comprising probability distributions each for an individual table cell, are used to fill missing data, highlight errors, and for other purposes.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for identifying an answer to a question in an electronic discussion forum. In some embodiments, text from a discussion forum that includes a question may be retrieved. One or more responses to the question from the discussion forum may be determined. An answer to the question may then be determined from the one or more responses to the question. In some embodiments, an answer may be determined based, at least in part, on at least one of a context of the text from the discussion forum, a context of a location in which the answer to the question may be further presented, and user behavior related to the one or more responses to the question.

Abstract: An intuitive file transfer method transfers a selected file from a source device to a selected destination device based on intuitive operation of file transferring. The source device and the destination device are connected by a data transmission device. The source device and the destination device are both provided with a storage device and are both loaded with an intuitive file transfer program. After initialization, the source device and the destination device start the intuitive file transfer programs, which detect if a user uses a pointing device to select an object icon to be transferred in a display area of the source device. When the selected object icon is detected to be moved by the user through a predetermined pointing operation, source data associated with the selected object icon are transmitted through the data transmission device to the storage device of the destination device.

Abstract: To facilitate the use of audio files for annotation purposes, an audio file format, which includes audio data for playback purposes, is augmented with a parallel data channel of line identifiers, or with a map associating time codes for the audio data with line numbers on the original document. The line number-time code information in the audio file is used to navigate within the audio file, and also to associate bookmark links and captured audio annotation files with line numbers of the original text document. An annotation device may provide an output document wherein links to audio and/or text annotation files are embedded at corresponding line numbers. Also, a navigation index may be generated, having links to annotation files and associated document line numbers, as well as bookmark links to selected document line numbers.

Abstract: In a system and a method, a selection of an input data field is detected. In response to the selection of the input data field, a user interface having an inner concentric circle and an outer concentric circle is generated. A contact point corresponding to a location of a touch gesture submitted via a touch-enabled input device within one of the inner concentric circle and the outer concentric circle is detected. An angular velocity of circular movement from the contact point around one of the concentric circles is measured. An input data value is adjusted at a granularity based on the contact point and at a rate based on the measured angular velocity of circular movement.

Abstract: In order to manage handwritten information written on a paper surface and electronic information input from an information terminal in association with each other, handwritten comment information and electronic comment information are managed as thread information in association with each other. When an object near a comment is imaged (captured), the thread information is superimposed and displayed on the captured image and is extended/displayed toward the object.

Abstract: There are provided a method and an apparatus for executing a function executing command through a gesture input, and more particularly, a method and an apparatus for executing a function executing command by recognizing a gesture input performed in a text input field displayed on a touch screen display. The method for executing a function executing command through a gesture input includes displaying a keyboard window for inputting text and a text input field for displaying the text inputted by the keyboard window on a touch screen display; recognizing a gesture input performed in the text input field; and executing a function executing command corresponding to the gesture input only when the text displayed in the text input field is not selected. A user can intuitively execute function executing commands by recognizing a gesture input in a text input field with ease when the function executing command is input through a touch screen display.

Abstract: Interactive content may be presented to a user that is manipulating a peripheral. One or more state parameters that are related to the position of the peripheral may be determined. The peripheral may be identified from a plurality of possible peripherals. The interactive content may be adjusted based at least in part on the one or more position parameters and/or the identification of the peripheral. Haptic feedback to be provided to the user may be determined based at least in part on the one or more position parameters and/or the identification of the peripheral.

Abstract: A system and method of creating annotations for graphical user interface (GUI) objects is provided. The annotations may be based on best candidate GUI objects that are in the vicinity of GUI objects that need annotation. The best candidate GUI object may be selected based on the position of an unannotated GUI object, a position of candidate GUI objects, a role of the unannotated GUI object, and a precedence criteria of the unannotated GUI object. The precedence criteria may include a position preference for candidate GUI objects in relation to unannotated GUI objects. The annotations may also be based on information within a self-described GUI object. Options can be specified to define how the annotations are extracted from candidate GUI objects and self-described GUI objects. The annotation of GUI objects can assist non-technical users in the automated testing and documentation of GUIs.

Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for modifying key functionality based on context of a user interface. A system configured to practice the method presents a graphical user interface, the graphical user interface providing a user interface element for data entry, and analyzes a user interaction via the user interface element and a context of the user interaction within the user interface element. Based on the user interaction and the context, the system activates a non-default mode for a key having a default mode. The key can be a physical key or a key in a virtual on-display keyboard. The default mode can be inserting a character such as a period or a comma, and the non-default mode can be launching voice input. The system receives, via the key, input directed to the user interface element, and performs an action associated with the non-default mode in response to the input.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for a subscriber of services on a network to display a custom operator name or alpha tag on the subscriber mobile communications device. The custom alpha tag (or operator name) is selected or defined by the subscriber via an interface on a communications device, and a custom operator name request is submitted to a provisioning logic on the network. The provisioning logic communicates with business rule logic on the network, the business rule logic being configured to retrieve and/or update a first account associated with the subscriber with the custom operator name. A billing logic within a billing subsystem may be invoked to debit a second account associated with the subscriber. A programming logic on the network then updates one or more mobile devices with the custom alpha tag. The several logic units may be part of an Over-the-air (OTA) platform on the network.

Abstract: An electronic inspection report system includes a central report generator and a data collection device. The central report generator is adapted to produce multiple types of inspection report template. The central report generator is adapted to select a type of inspection report template to provide to a data collection device based upon various criteria. The central report generator is adapted to receive electronic information from various databases and format the information such that the information can be used in inspection reports. While inspecting an item, an inspector uses a data collection device to access an inspection report template and fill in fields of the inspection report template. The data collection device can be configured to check the consistency of information carried in fields of the inspection report and signal the inspector when some of the information is inconsistent. The central report generator can include a repository of completed inspection reports.

Abstract: A system to conduct a public-initiated opinion poll on a media space or in a consumer space is discussed. Simple activation of software- or hardware-based buttons or otherwise by speaking into or tapping on a device are provided and enables the public to express its likes/dislikes about anything, anyone, anywhere, anytime and merely when he/she decides to do so. Hence, this system replaces the current survey-based paradigm in which the surveyor decides when to ask what, and how from the public.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes presenting a comment icon in connection with a third-party application, the comment icon being associated with a first party and enabling a user to compose comment concerning the third-party application; and while the user is interacting with the third-party application, in response to the user activating the comment icon, creating a comment post concerning the third-party application; enabling the user to input comment inside the comment post; and enabling the user to submit the comment post to the first party for publication.

Abstract: Methods for implementing an auto-complete feature for contact entry on mobile devices are described. In some embodiments, a mobile device downloads from a server a number of contacts associated with a user, wherein the number of contacts is a subset of contacts in a contact list of the user. Upon receiving a partial contact entry from the user that includes a string of one or more characters, the mobile device identifies contacts from the downloaded contacts matching the partial entry. The mobile device displays no more than a preset number of matching contacts on the display of the mobile device at any one time, in a particular order, with an option for the user to display and fetch for more matching contacts. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: An embodiment relates generally to a method of messaging. The method includes providing a message activation widget on a lock dialog box of a screen saver application and activating the message activation widget. The method also includes displaying a message user interface configured to accept a message and displaying a screen saver image in response to saving an entered message in the message user interface.

Abstract: Architecture that automatically presents a default (e.g., a top popular query) in a search box for viewing and selection by the user. Search users are presented with the default query and other queries less popularly ranked than the default query are presented as suggestions for selection and processing by the search engine or an application. The default query can be presented with graphical emphasis (e.g., grayed text) in the search box to indicate the query is merely presented as a suggestion that may or may not be executed, and the user interface will operate differently based on user interaction. Clicking the search button associated with the search box with the default query results in a search being performed by the search engine or associated local application to fetch additional results. Clicking the search box triggers clean-up of the default query from the search box and other popular queries automatically suggested.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing display power consumption are disclosed. In some embodiments first information is displayed in an available display area including a first portion of a display screen in a configuration having a set of portions. The set of portions includes the first portion of the display screen, which is configured in a powered-on state to perform display functions and receive user input, and a second portion of the display screen, which is configured in a powered-off state. Responsive to a user indication in the in the first portion, the second portion is added to the available display area by transitioning the second portion to the powered-on state to perform display functions and receive user input. Second information is displayed in the second portion.

Abstract: Method, device, and storage medium that provides a briefing service. The briefing service includes a self-discovery mode and a suggestion box. The self-discovery mode allows a user to obtain information about a product or a thing based on an image capture of a Quick Response code. The Quick Response code is decoded and a parameter is extracted and used to generate a uniform resource identifier. The suggestion box allows a user to submit a suggestion regarding a briefing. The self-discovery mode and the suggestion box are provided to a user based on a briefing software that includes user interfaces.

Abstract: An approach for managing a set of data tuples is provided. A search tuple is received and a comparison relation is determined. The set of data tuples is ordered based on the comparison relation. A placement of the search tuple is determined between two consecutive data tuples in the ordered set of data tuples so that the search tuple is ordered among the ordered set of data tuples in accordance with the comparison relation. A presentation is generated based on the placement of the search tuple between the two consecutive data tuples. The presentation includes a sequence of data tuples included in the ordered set of data tuples. The sequence includes the two consecutive data tuples and the search tuple between the two consecutive data tuples.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for populating user information onto an electronic form using human interactions via touch, voice, gestures or an input device. The electronic form is selected by the user for completion using a user profile of stored data. When a form field requires a manual input—such as a form field with multiple potential values—a user is prompted to complete the field using one or more of the human interactions to allow the user to easily complete the field. These human interactions may include touching the form field with a finger on a touchscreen user interface, speaking the form field name, gesturing or selecting via the input device to generate a window of different potential values, and then touching, speaking, gesturing of selecting via the input device the value that the user prefers.

Abstract: A method of inputting a text word in a computerized system using a virtual keyboard, including, recording two or more strokes; wherein each stroke forms contact with the virtual keyboard and maintains contact forming a trace path as it traverses through multiple keyboard keys, each key representing a letter; identifying the word based on the recording; and wherein every distinct letter in the word is represented by a key in one of the trace paths.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to enable an integrated query and navigation system. A graphical user interface is provided that simultaneously displays a query entry frame and a resource display frame. The query navigator includes a query input mechanism that receives input and displays suggested query terms and representative images for articles for matching content. The resource display frame enables a user to view query information and content information in the same interface as to be informed and make decisions on that information.

Abstract: A search and find user interface is provided that is integrated with a data indexing engine to allow efficient and high-speed data search and retrieval across data storage folders associated with a given software module or associated with a number of disparate software modules. An expanded form of the search and find user interface is provided for advanced searching. Where searching is required beyond a present search scope, an automatic “upscoping” mechanism is provided for expanding a search to data storage folders outside a current data storage folder on which an initial search is executed.

Abstract: A method for quick text entry on a portable electronic device and a portable electronic device configured for the same are provided.
