Abstract: To facilitate the use of audio files for annotation purposes, an audio file format, which includes audio data for playback purposes, is augmented with a parallel data channel of line identifiers, or with a map associating time codes for the audio data with line numbers on the original document. The line number-time code information in the audio file is used to navigate within the audio file, and also to associate bookmark links and captured audio annotation files with line numbers of the original text document. An annotation device may provide an output document wherein links to audio and/or text annotation files are embedded at corresponding line numbers. Also, a navigation index may be generated, having links to annotation files and associated document line numbers, as well as bookmark links to selected document line numbers.

Abstract: In order to manage handwritten information written on a paper surface and electronic information input from an information terminal in association with each other, handwritten comment information and electronic comment information are managed as thread information in association with each other. When an object near a comment is imaged (captured), the thread information is superimposed and displayed on the captured image and is extended/displayed toward the object.

Abstract: There are provided a method and an apparatus for executing a function executing command through a gesture input, and more particularly, a method and an apparatus for executing a function executing command by recognizing a gesture input performed in a text input field displayed on a touch screen display. The method for executing a function executing command through a gesture input includes displaying a keyboard window for inputting text and a text input field for displaying the text inputted by the keyboard window on a touch screen display; recognizing a gesture input performed in the text input field; and executing a function executing command corresponding to the gesture input only when the text displayed in the text input field is not selected. A user can intuitively execute function executing commands by recognizing a gesture input in a text input field with ease when the function executing command is input through a touch screen display.

Abstract: Interactive content may be presented to a user that is manipulating a peripheral. One or more state parameters that are related to the position of the peripheral may be determined. The peripheral may be identified from a plurality of possible peripherals. The interactive content may be adjusted based at least in part on the one or more position parameters and/or the identification of the peripheral. Haptic feedback to be provided to the user may be determined based at least in part on the one or more position parameters and/or the identification of the peripheral.

Abstract: A system and method of creating annotations for graphical user interface (GUI) objects is provided. The annotations may be based on best candidate GUI objects that are in the vicinity of GUI objects that need annotation. The best candidate GUI object may be selected based on the position of an unannotated GUI object, a position of candidate GUI objects, a role of the unannotated GUI object, and a precedence criteria of the unannotated GUI object. The precedence criteria may include a position preference for candidate GUI objects in relation to unannotated GUI objects. The annotations may also be based on information within a self-described GUI object. Options can be specified to define how the annotations are extracted from candidate GUI objects and self-described GUI objects. The annotation of GUI objects can assist non-technical users in the automated testing and documentation of GUIs.

Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for modifying key functionality based on context of a user interface. A system configured to practice the method presents a graphical user interface, the graphical user interface providing a user interface element for data entry, and analyzes a user interaction via the user interface element and a context of the user interaction within the user interface element. Based on the user interaction and the context, the system activates a non-default mode for a key having a default mode. The key can be a physical key or a key in a virtual on-display keyboard. The default mode can be inserting a character such as a period or a comma, and the non-default mode can be launching voice input. The system receives, via the key, input directed to the user interface element, and performs an action associated with the non-default mode in response to the input.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for a subscriber of services on a network to display a custom operator name or alpha tag on the subscriber mobile communications device. The custom alpha tag (or operator name) is selected or defined by the subscriber via an interface on a communications device, and a custom operator name request is submitted to a provisioning logic on the network. The provisioning logic communicates with business rule logic on the network, the business rule logic being configured to retrieve and/or update a first account associated with the subscriber with the custom operator name. A billing logic within a billing subsystem may be invoked to debit a second account associated with the subscriber. A programming logic on the network then updates one or more mobile devices with the custom alpha tag. The several logic units may be part of an Over-the-air (OTA) platform on the network.

Abstract: An electronic inspection report system includes a central report generator and a data collection device. The central report generator is adapted to produce multiple types of inspection report template. The central report generator is adapted to select a type of inspection report template to provide to a data collection device based upon various criteria. The central report generator is adapted to receive electronic information from various databases and format the information such that the information can be used in inspection reports. While inspecting an item, an inspector uses a data collection device to access an inspection report template and fill in fields of the inspection report template. The data collection device can be configured to check the consistency of information carried in fields of the inspection report and signal the inspector when some of the information is inconsistent. The central report generator can include a repository of completed inspection reports.

Abstract: A system to conduct a public-initiated opinion poll on a media space or in a consumer space is discussed. Simple activation of software- or hardware-based buttons or otherwise by speaking into or tapping on a device are provided and enables the public to express its likes/dislikes about anything, anyone, anywhere, anytime and merely when he/she decides to do so. Hence, this system replaces the current survey-based paradigm in which the surveyor decides when to ask what, and how from the public.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes presenting a comment icon in connection with a third-party application, the comment icon being associated with a first party and enabling a user to compose comment concerning the third-party application; and while the user is interacting with the third-party application, in response to the user activating the comment icon, creating a comment post concerning the third-party application; enabling the user to input comment inside the comment post; and enabling the user to submit the comment post to the first party for publication.

Abstract: An embodiment relates generally to a method of messaging. The method includes providing a message activation widget on a lock dialog box of a screen saver application and activating the message activation widget. The method also includes displaying a message user interface configured to accept a message and displaying a screen saver image in response to saving an entered message in the message user interface.

Abstract: Methods for implementing an auto-complete feature for contact entry on mobile devices are described. In some embodiments, a mobile device downloads from a server a number of contacts associated with a user, wherein the number of contacts is a subset of contacts in a contact list of the user. Upon receiving a partial contact entry from the user that includes a string of one or more characters, the mobile device identifies contacts from the downloaded contacts matching the partial entry. The mobile device displays no more than a preset number of matching contacts on the display of the mobile device at any one time, in a particular order, with an option for the user to display and fetch for more matching contacts. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: Architecture that automatically presents a default (e.g., a top popular query) in a search box for viewing and selection by the user. Search users are presented with the default query and other queries less popularly ranked than the default query are presented as suggestions for selection and processing by the search engine or an application. The default query can be presented with graphical emphasis (e.g., grayed text) in the search box to indicate the query is merely presented as a suggestion that may or may not be executed, and the user interface will operate differently based on user interaction. Clicking the search button associated with the search box with the default query results in a search being performed by the search engine or associated local application to fetch additional results. Clicking the search box triggers clean-up of the default query from the search box and other popular queries automatically suggested.

Abstract: Systems and methods for managing display power consumption are disclosed. In some embodiments first information is displayed in an available display area including a first portion of a display screen in a configuration having a set of portions. The set of portions includes the first portion of the display screen, which is configured in a powered-on state to perform display functions and receive user input, and a second portion of the display screen, which is configured in a powered-off state. Responsive to a user indication in the in the first portion, the second portion is added to the available display area by transitioning the second portion to the powered-on state to perform display functions and receive user input. Second information is displayed in the second portion.

Abstract: An approach for managing a set of data tuples is provided. A search tuple is received and a comparison relation is determined. The set of data tuples is ordered based on the comparison relation. A placement of the search tuple is determined between two consecutive data tuples in the ordered set of data tuples so that the search tuple is ordered among the ordered set of data tuples in accordance with the comparison relation. A presentation is generated based on the placement of the search tuple between the two consecutive data tuples. The presentation includes a sequence of data tuples included in the ordered set of data tuples. The sequence includes the two consecutive data tuples and the search tuple between the two consecutive data tuples.

Abstract: Method, device, and storage medium that provides a briefing service. The briefing service includes a self-discovery mode and a suggestion box. The self-discovery mode allows a user to obtain information about a product or a thing based on an image capture of a Quick Response code. The Quick Response code is decoded and a parameter is extracted and used to generate a uniform resource identifier. The suggestion box allows a user to submit a suggestion regarding a briefing. The self-discovery mode and the suggestion box are provided to a user based on a briefing software that includes user interfaces.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for populating user information onto an electronic form using human interactions via touch, voice, gestures or an input device. The electronic form is selected by the user for completion using a user profile of stored data. When a form field requires a manual input—such as a form field with multiple potential values—a user is prompted to complete the field using one or more of the human interactions to allow the user to easily complete the field. These human interactions may include touching the form field with a finger on a touchscreen user interface, speaking the form field name, gesturing or selecting via the input device to generate a window of different potential values, and then touching, speaking, gesturing of selecting via the input device the value that the user prefers.

Abstract: A method of inputting a text word in a computerized system using a virtual keyboard, including, recording two or more strokes; wherein each stroke forms contact with the virtual keyboard and maintains contact forming a trace path as it traverses through multiple keyboard keys, each key representing a letter; identifying the word based on the recording; and wherein every distinct letter in the word is represented by a key in one of the trace paths.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to enable an integrated query and navigation system. A graphical user interface is provided that simultaneously displays a query entry frame and a resource display frame. The query navigator includes a query input mechanism that receives input and displays suggested query terms and representative images for articles for matching content. The resource display frame enables a user to view query information and content information in the same interface as to be informed and make decisions on that information.

Abstract: A search and find user interface is provided that is integrated with a data indexing engine to allow efficient and high-speed data search and retrieval across data storage folders associated with a given software module or associated with a number of disparate software modules. An expanded form of the search and find user interface is provided for advanced searching. Where searching is required beyond a present search scope, an automatic “upscoping” mechanism is provided for expanding a search to data storage folders outside a current data storage folder on which an initial search is executed.

The gesture module may be operable by the at least one processor to output, for display at the presence-sensitive display, a graphical keyboard comprising a plurality of keys and receive an indication of a continuous gesture detected at the presence-sensitive display, the continuous gesture to select a group of keys of the plurality of keys. The gesture module may be further operable to determine, in response to receiving the indication of the continuous gesture and based at least in part on the group of keys of the plurality of keys, a candidate phrase comprising a group of candidate words.

Services associated with a search engine database identify entities and associated tasks. A user's context is utilized to identify one or more entities and one or more associated tasks that may be relevant to the user's current context. Entities and tasks are presented through a dedicated menu, icon, or other like dedicated user interface element to which the user can direct action. Also, entities and tasks are presented through a separate user interface context, such as a separate screen. A user's context can also include information regarding future content that will be presented to the user. Then, entities and tasks are presented via the same user interface mechanisms used to request such content, such as textual input user interface mechanisms.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a computer system, method, and computer program product for constructing a command line. According to one aspect of the present invention, a user can construct a command line based on historical command lines. The user can view and select individual historical and/or available parameters to construct the new command line, without requiring that the user manually type the parameters with a physical or virtual keyboard.

Abstract: Techniques for providing a single text field and multiple different types of user input modes for inputting information into the single text field are described herein. In some instances, a user may enter a first portion of text into the text field in a first user input mode before inputting a second portion of text into the field in a second user input mode. The techniques may enforce a first set of rules associated with the first user input mode while the user enters the first portion of text. The techniques may then enforce a second, different set of rules associated with the second user input mode while the user enters the second portion of text. As such, the techniques enable a user to provide two or more different pieces of information into a single text field.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing dynamically linked graphical messages in a process control system are disclosed. A dynamically linked graphical message may include a hyperlink and an electronic sticky note image. At run-time of a display view, the hyperlink may be established between contents of the electronic sticky note image and a process control object, and the electronic sticky note image may be displayed proximate to a representation of the process control object. The electronic sticky note image may automatically be displayed on any display view (displayed on any computing device in communication with the process control system) that includes a representation of the process control object or corresponding sub-class object. The contents of the electronic sticky note image may be stored separately from configurations of the process control object and the display view. User interfaces for administering and displaying properties of dynamically linked graphical messages are also disclosed.

A whole or part of the contents of the displayed note are selected by a first input form. The contents of a note written on the screen by the memo function is designated as a command to execute for the selected whole or part of the contents by a second input form different from the first input form. The selected whole or part of the contents are processed according to the command.

Abstract: A method of providing a service using a keypad is provided. The method includes displaying a text box and a keypad on an executed screen, inputting a start identifier according to a selection of a smart conversion button of the keypad, inputting a command after the identifier, inputting a termination identifier after the command, performing an intelligent service according to the command when the termination identifier is inputted, and outputting a result according to the intelligent service in the text box.

Abstract: An apparatus for processing handwriting input includes a touch display unit, a touch display control unit, a storage unit, a calculating unit, and a processing unit. The touch display control unit determines a character in response to a character operation by an input device, and a height and a width of an imaginary rectangle sized to fittingly encircle the character. The calculating unit enlarges the height of the imaginary rectangle by adding a given value to the height of the imaginary rectangle if the height of the imaginary rectangle is smaller than a predetermined value. The processing unit resizes the character displayed within the enlarged imaginary rectangle by a first scaling factor. The touch display control unit controls the touch display unit to display the resized character in one of rows of a character display portion provided by the touch display unit. A related method is also described.

Abstract: In one aspect, a virtual input device can be configured by detecting a language identifier associated with a selected data entry field, determining a key mapping corresponding to the detected language identifier, configuring a virtual input device in accordance with the key mapping, wherein the virtual input device includes one or more controls and the key mapping specifies a character corresponding to at least one of the plurality of controls, and presenting the virtual input device to a user. The language identifier can comprise one of an Extensible Markup Language tag and a Hypertext Markup Language tag. Further, user input selecting a second data entry field can be received, wherein a second language identifier is associated with the second data entry field, a second key mapping corresponding to the second language identifier can be determined, and the virtual input device can be configured in accordance with the second key mapping.

Abstract: A system for generating customized badges. The system includes a computer, a printer coupled to the computer, a display coupled to the computer, and a computer readable medium. The computer readable medium includes instructions for opening a badge profile, providing a data entry screen based on the profile, receiving data in the data entry screen, and printing customized badges on the printer based on the received data. The badge profile defines a size, type, and location of data to be printed on the customized badges.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for detecting an action providing input associated with an element of a user interface (UI) and/or graphical model, and providing an indicator to indicate the action has been detected. The UI and graphical model may provide elements that may be editable or otherwise changeable. The action may provide input that may change a value of the editable element of the UI or alter an element of the graphical model. Upon detection of the action, an indicator is provided in the UI or the graphical model in a manner associated with the detected changed element. The indicator may be a visual indicator or any other sensory indicator, such as a sound, force, or tactile indicator. The indicator provides a prompt to a user that one or more elements of the UI or graphical model may need to be saved, applied, or any changes canceled.

Abstract: A method includes displaying information on a display of an electronic device, the information comprising an entry field and a selectable obscuration feature operable to be toggled between a first state and a second state within the entry field. When the selectable obscuration feature in is the first state, characters are displayed as entered in the entry field, and when the selectable obscuration feature is in the second state, obscuration symbols are displayed in place of the characters as entered in the entry field.

A terminal includes an input detection unit to detect a focus on an input field, and an input method editor providing unit including an information analysis unit to analyze information of the input field, an input method editor determination unit to determine a character type for the input field, a database unit to store data related to the character type corresponding to the input field, and an input method editor output unit to output the input method editor corresponding to the determined character type.

Abstract: A system includes a data record (such as an Electronic Medical Record (EMR)) and a user interface for modifying (e.g., storing data in) the data record. The data record includes both free-form text elements and discrete data elements. The user interface includes user interface elements for receiving free-form text data. In response to receiving free-form text data via the free-form text user interface elements, a suggested action is identified, such as a suggested action to take in connection with one of the discrete data elements of the data record. Output is generated representing the suggested action. A user provides input indicating acceptance or rejection of the suggested action. The suggested action may be performed in response to the user input.

Abstract: Auto-completion techniques are provided. In some embodiments, a multimedia object can be determined based upon a received textual input. A displayable representation of the multimedia object can be provided as an auto-complete suggestion. In response to user selection of the displayable representation, the received textual input can be replaced with a representation that enables the multimedia object to be accessed. In some embodiments, a mathematical operation can be performed based upon the received textual input. The result of the operation can be provided as an auto-complete suggestion. In response to user selection of the suggestion, the received textual input can be replaced with the result of the mathematical calculation.

Abstract: Methods, computer systems, and computer storage media are provided for initiating clinical actions associated with a clinical object on a touch screen interface using incremental gestures. A clinical object is presented in an object row on the touch screen interface, and clinical actions associated with the clinical object are determined. A user gesture comprising an incremental gesture of the object row in a first direction is detected; the incremental gesture reveals an indicator associated with one of the clinical actions. The indicator is revealed after the incremental gesture has traveled a first distance. The action is initiated upon release of the incremental gesture.

Abstract: A display tag is provided. A display tag includes a sensing unit which captures an image displayed on a screen of an external tag writer, if a sensing unit is disposed opposite the screen; and a display unit which displays a captured image. Therefore, a user can visually recognize content related to tag information, and thus user convenience is enhanced.

Abstract: A user authenticates a mobile device (MD) to a network-based service (NBS) for initial authentication. Policy is pushed from the NBS to the MD and the MD automatically obtains details about devices and attributes that are near or accessible to the MD in accordance with the policy. The details are pushed as a packet from the MD to the NBS and multifactor authentication is performed based on the details and the policy. If the multifactor authentication is successful, access privileges are set for the MD for accessing the NBS and perhaps for accessing local resources of the MD.

Abstract: The present invention provides a mechanism to display exactly which parts of a GUI are being updated by non-blocking or asynchronous interaction with a server. It also allows the user to continue to interact with unaffected portions of the display and therefore can be used to provide a superior user experience. Specifically, the present invention displays a busy or progress indicator at the element level of granularity, indicating that the value of the element is currently undergoing a non-blocking or asynchronous update.

Abstract: Methods of adding data identifiers and speech/voice recognition functionality are disclosed. A telnet client runs one or more scripts that add data identifiers to data fields in a telnet session. The input data is inserted in the corresponding fields based on data identifiers. Scripts run only on the telnet client without modifications to the server applications. Further disclosed are methods for providing speech recognition and voice functionality to telnet clients. Portions of input data are converted to voice and played to the user. A user also may provide input to certain fields of the telnet session by using his voice. Scripts running on the telnet client convert the user's voice into text and is inserted to corresponding fields.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for controlling an application by handwriting image recognition are provided. The method includes displaying an executed application on a touch panel, detecting a predefined user input, displaying a memo window including a handwriting input area and a non-handwriting input area over the application in response to the detected the user input, receiving and recognizing a handwriting image in the handwriting input area of the memo window, and controlling a function of the application according to a recognized result.

Abstract: User interface for searching for data are described. In one embodiment, a method, which involves a user interface for searching, includes displaying on a display device a search input region and displaying, immediately adjacent to the search input region, a user interface object which, if selected, cause the display of a menu, disposed adjacent to the user interface object, of selectable search options to configure how to perform the search. The search input region can be configured to receive an input for a search of data on a data processing system coupled to the display device.
