Abstract: A search and find user interface is provided that is integrated with a data indexing engine to allow efficient and high-speed data search and retrieval across data storage folders associated with a given software module or associated with a number of disparate software modules. An expanded form of the search and find user interface is provided for advanced searching. Where searching is required beyond a present search scope, an automatic “upscoping” mechanism is provided for expanding a search to data storage folders outside a current data storage folder on which an initial search is executed.

Abstract: A method for quick text entry on a portable electronic device and a portable electronic device configured for the same are provided. In accordance with one embodiment, there is provided a method for quick text entry, comprising: displaying a text entry user interface within a graphical user interface, the text entry user interface element including a text entry field; receiving text in the text entry field; storing the text received in text entry field in memory in response to corresponding input.

Abstract: In one example, a computing device includes at least one processor that is operatively coupled to a presence-sensitive display and a gesture module operable by the at least one processor. The gesture module may be operable by the at least one processor to output, for display at the presence-sensitive display, a graphical keyboard comprising a plurality of keys and receive an indication of a continuous gesture detected at the presence-sensitive display, the continuous gesture to select a group of keys of the plurality of keys. The gesture module may be further operable to determine, in response to receiving the indication of the continuous gesture and based at least in part on the group of keys of the plurality of keys, a candidate phrase comprising a group of candidate words.

Abstract: Users are provided with information regarding entities and tasks that are associated with the user's current context, which includes the content currently being presented to the user. Services associated with a search engine database identify entities and associated tasks. A user's context is utilized to identify one or more entities and one or more associated tasks that may be relevant to the user's current context. Entities and tasks are presented through a dedicated menu, icon, or other like dedicated user interface element to which the user can direct action. Also, entities and tasks are presented through a separate user interface context, such as a separate screen. A user's context can also include information regarding future content that will be presented to the user. Then, entities and tasks are presented via the same user interface mechanisms used to request such content, such as textual input user interface mechanisms.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a computer system, method, and computer program product for constructing a command line. According to one aspect of the present invention, a user can construct a command line based on historical command lines. The user can view and select individual historical and/or available parameters to construct the new command line, without requiring that the user manually type the parameters with a physical or virtual keyboard.

Abstract: Techniques for providing a single text field and multiple different types of user input modes for inputting information into the single text field are described herein. In some instances, a user may enter a first portion of text into the text field in a first user input mode before inputting a second portion of text into the field in a second user input mode. The techniques may enforce a first set of rules associated with the first user input mode while the user enters the first portion of text. The techniques may then enforce a second, different set of rules associated with the second user input mode while the user enters the second portion of text. As such, the techniques enable a user to provide two or more different pieces of information into a single text field.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing dynamically linked graphical messages in a process control system are disclosed. A dynamically linked graphical message may include a hyperlink and an electronic sticky note image. At run-time of a display view, the hyperlink may be established between contents of the electronic sticky note image and a process control object, and the electronic sticky note image may be displayed proximate to a representation of the process control object. The electronic sticky note image may automatically be displayed on any display view (displayed on any computing device in communication with the process control system) that includes a representation of the process control object or corresponding sub-class object. The contents of the electronic sticky note image may be stored separately from configurations of the process control object and the display view. User interfaces for administering and displaying properties of dynamically linked graphical messages are also disclosed.

Abstract: An apparatus for processing handwriting input includes a touch display unit, a touch display control unit, a storage unit, a calculating unit, and a processing unit. The touch display control unit determines a character in response to a character operation by an input device, and a height and a width of an imaginary rectangle sized to fittingly encircle the character. The calculating unit enlarges the height of the imaginary rectangle by adding a given value to the height of the imaginary rectangle if the height of the imaginary rectangle is smaller than a predetermined value. The processing unit resizes the character displayed within the enlarged imaginary rectangle by a first scaling factor. The touch display control unit controls the touch display unit to display the resized character in one of rows of a character display portion provided by the touch display unit. A related method is also described.

The method includes displaying a text box and a keypad on an executed screen, inputting a start identifier according to a selection of a smart conversion button of the keypad, inputting a command after the identifier, inputting a termination identifier after the command, performing an intelligent service according to the command when the termination identifier is inputted, and outputting a result according to the intelligent service in the text box.

Abstract: A handwriting-based User Interface (UI) apparatus and a method for executing an intended function menu using notes stored in a user terminal supporting a handwriting-based memo function are provided, in which upon user request, a note that has been written by the memo function and stored is retrieved and displayed on a screen. A whole or part of the contents of the displayed note are selected by a first input form. The contents of a note written on the screen by the memo function is designated as a command to execute for the selected whole or part of the contents by a second input form different from the first input form. The selected whole or part of the contents are processed according to the command.

Abstract: A system for generating customized badges. The system includes a computer, a printer coupled to the computer, a display coupled to the computer, and a computer readable medium. The computer readable medium includes instructions for opening a badge profile, providing a data entry screen based on the profile, receiving data in the data entry screen, and printing customized badges on the printer based on the received data. The badge profile defines a size, type, and location of data to be printed on the customized badges.

Abstract: In one aspect, a virtual input device can be configured by detecting a language identifier associated with a selected data entry field, determining a key mapping corresponding to the detected language identifier, configuring a virtual input device in accordance with the key mapping, wherein the virtual input device includes one or more controls and the key mapping specifies a character corresponding to at least one of the plurality of controls, and presenting the virtual input device to a user. The language identifier can comprise one of an Extensible Markup Language tag and a Hypertext Markup Language tag. Further, user input selecting a second data entry field can be received, wherein a second language identifier is associated with the second data entry field, a second key mapping corresponding to the second language identifier can be determined, and the virtual input device can be configured in accordance with the second key mapping.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for detecting an action providing input associated with an element of a user interface (UI) and/or graphical model, and providing an indicator to indicate the action has been detected. The UI and graphical model may provide elements that may be editable or otherwise changeable. The action may provide input that may change a value of the editable element of the UI or alter an element of the graphical model. Upon detection of the action, an indicator is provided in the UI or the graphical model in a manner associated with the detected changed element. The indicator may be a visual indicator or any other sensory indicator, such as a sound, force, or tactile indicator. The indicator provides a prompt to a user that one or more elements of the UI or graphical model may need to be saved, applied, or any changes canceled.

In response to receiving free-form text data via the free-form text user interface elements, a suggested action is identified, such as a suggested action to take in connection with one of the discrete data elements of the data record. Output is generated representing the suggested action. A user provides input indicating acceptance or rejection of the suggested action. The suggested action may be performed in response to the user input.

Abstract: Auto-completion techniques are provided. In some embodiments, a multimedia object can be determined based upon a received textual input. A displayable representation of the multimedia object can be provided as an auto-complete suggestion. In response to user selection of the displayable representation, the received textual input can be replaced with a representation that enables the multimedia object to be accessed. In some embodiments, a mathematical operation can be performed based upon the received textual input. The result of the operation can be provided as an auto-complete suggestion. A clinical object is presented in an object row on the touch screen interface, and clinical actions associated with the clinical object are determined. A user gesture comprising an incremental gesture of the object row in a first direction is detected; the incremental gesture reveals an indicator associated with one of the clinical actions. The indicator is revealed after the incremental gesture has traveled a first distance. The action is initiated upon release of the incremental gesture.

Abstract: A user authenticates a mobile device (MD) to a network-based service (NBS) for initial authentication. Policy is pushed from the NBS to the MD and the MD automatically obtains details about devices and attributes that are near or accessible to the MD in accordance with the policy. The details are pushed as a packet from the MD to the NBS and multifactor authentication is performed based on the details and the policy. If the multifactor authentication is successful, access privileges are set for the MD for accessing the NBS and perhaps for accessing local resources of the MD.

Abstract: The present invention provides a mechanism to display exactly which parts of a GUI are being updated by non-blocking or asynchronous interaction with a server. It also allows the user to continue to interact with unaffected portions of the display and therefore can be used to provide a superior user experience. Specifically, the present invention displays a busy or progress indicator at the element level of granularity, indicating that the value of the element is currently undergoing a non-blocking or asynchronous update.

Abstract: Methods of adding data identifiers and speech/voice recognition functionality are disclosed. A telnet client runs one or more scripts that add data identifiers to data fields in a telnet session. The input data is inserted in the corresponding fields based on data identifiers. Scripts run only on the telnet client without modifications to the server applications. Further disclosed are methods for providing speech recognition and voice functionality to telnet clients. Portions of input data are converted to voice and played to the user. A user also may provide input to certain fields of the telnet session by using his voice. Scripts running on the telnet client convert the user's voice into text and is inserted to corresponding fields.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for controlling an application by handwriting image recognition are provided. Abstract: An electronic device includes a storage unit, a touch input unit, a display unit, and a processor. The storage unit is used for storing decryption passwords. The touch input unit is configured to select a file for encryption/decryption, and to generate corresponding handwriting input signals in response to the handwritten signature of a user on the touch input unit. The processor includes a detecting module, a feature extracting module, and an encryption and decryption module. The detecting module detects the coordinates of the handwriting of the user's signature. The feature extracting module extracts the feature of the user's signature according to the detected coordinates, and stores the extracted feature of the user's signature. The encryption and decryption module uses the features of the user's signature as a password to encrypt or decrypt the selected file. An encryption method and a decryption method are also provided.

Abstract: A calculation control method is used for an electronic device. The electronic device includes a storage unit storing a number of arithmetic equation models. The method includes the following steps. Sense handwritten touch input on a touch sensing unit by a user. Generate signals associated with the user's handwritten touch input. Display the handwritten content according to the generated signals. Recognize the handwritten content of the user, and convert the recognized handwritten content into an arithmetic operation if the recognized handwritten content matches one of the arithmetic equation models stored in the storage unit. Calculate a result of the arithmetic operation, if the recognized handwritten content matches one of the arithmetic equation models. And display the calculated result to the user.

Abstract: In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products. A display for a particular contact record is presented. The display includes a name for a particular contact and a generic input area. Each of a plurality of contact records identifies a name for a contact, and each of the plurality of contact records is configured to store multiple entries that each include a value and a field type from a plurality of field types. User input of information using the generic input area is received. A field type from the plurality of field types is determined based on matching semantics of the received user input. The determining occurs without receiving user input specifically identifying the matching field type. The determined field type and the received user input is stored as an entry for the particular contact record.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer programs are provided for smart interfaces that shift the burden of cognition from a user to a computer system. More particularly, a method is presented for using a computer system to interpret data. The method includes an operation for accepting data from a data entry field of the user interface, where the data is provided to the data entry field in a selected format. The selected format is different from a common data format expected by the user interface. In another operation, the accepted data is normalized to conform to the common data format expected by the user interface. This normalization is based on information about one or more of a geographic location of the user, a geographic location of a server, and a geographic location of a product being used. Further, the method includes an operation for providing the normalized data in the common data format.

Abstract: An enterprise management software system that provides a methodology for transient data storage, user action handling and dependent object creation process. When a dependent object is required to be added, the software system may remember the action without creating the dependent object. When a command is received to cancel the dependent object creation, the software system may work only on the transient data at a frontend and will not interact with backend. The dependent object may be instantiated when receiving a user command to save any entered data. Responsive to the user command, the software system may collect user input and trigger dependent object instantiation process at the backend.

Abstract: A system and process for managing content organized in a tag-delimited template using metadata are described. A stored template written in a tag-delimited language is retrieved. The retrieved template is converted into an object representation of a metadata entry form. A user interface exported by the object representation is initialized. A data entry form is built including individual data entry elements responsive to user selections on the user interface of the metadata form. Each data entry element includes a set of information attributes describing the data entry element. The data entry elements of the data entry form are defined as one or more classes within the retrieved template. The data entry form is rendered by enumerating each of the one or more classes of the stored template and generating each data entry element of the one or more enumerated classes as described by the set of information attributes.
