  • Patent number: 6502447
Abstract: A progressive die for forming a turbulator having multiple rows of axial corrugations. The corrugations are slit and offset such that artificial turbulence is generated as it passes through the corrugations. The device includes a plurality of dies disposed along an axial material direction. A flat strip of material enters the dies and is folded about its longitudinal axis in a relatively wide V-fold. As the strip of material moves forward, it is intermittently stamped in the series of dies. The initial dies create a central V-shaped fold that gradually narrows into a U-shaped channel with straight walls. Once the first corrugation is formed, a series of progressive dies form the remaining corrugations in alternating fashion. Next, the material moves through a slitting station that provides apertures and an axial offset such that adjacent sections of the corrugation are slit and offset in the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 6397469
Abstract: A power assisted combination shear used for forming structural louvers in the crimped seam of structural steel decking comprises a frame supporting a pair of jaws which are opened and closed by means of an operator-controlled pneumatic cylinder. One jaw terminates in a blade and the other jaw has a corresponding die member. The blade and die have undercut reliefs in the root portions, which permit the louver to be formed without breaking through to the edge of the seam. The louver comprises a sheared portion in the form of a bowed tab bridging a corresponding window formed in the seam by the shearing of the tab. The interference between the louver and window provides a substantial increase in the lateral resistance (shear strength) of the crimped seam, thereby obviating the need to additionally weld or screw the seam to provide the necessary shear strength for even the highest stress applications.

Abstract: A shearing machine includes a sickle shaped upper jaw interacting scissors fashion with a generally linear lower jaw. The distal ends of the sickle shape begin shearing from opposite ends of a plate-type object at about the same time, with shearing progressing toward a central point. A transverse member and a return leg form, with the lower jaw, a J-shaped device. • Patent number: 5007264
Abstract: In a method for the bending of workpieces by swivel bending jaws, the bent-off part is to assume a predetermined bending angle with respect to the workpiece, for this purpose, in a first bending operation, at least one corresponding leg is to be bent off from the workpiece by means of the swivel bending jaws. Then, the swivel bending jaws are released from the leg and a springback of the leg or the actual bending angle is determined by direct measurements and compared with a set bending angle. Subsequently, an agreement is established between set bending angle and actual bending angle by a renewed bending operation, by a bending-over.

Abstract: A method of producing concentric knockouts on a planar portion of sheet metal to be formed into an equipment housing. The sheet metal is successively positioned with respect to punch sets of increasing diameter and knockout portions of increasing size are sequentially cut, but for retaining anchors, to surround previously cut portions. Successive knockout portions are cut by punches moving in opposing directions. The punch sets comprise a cutting punch and an embedding punch. The cutting punch cuts and displaces the knockout in a first direction and the embedding punch of the same punch set moves in an opposite direction to at least partially restore the cut and displaced portion within the surrounding portions of the sheet metal.

  • Patent number: 4748841
Abstract: A method is disclosed for producing contact pins having a mounting portion including three resilient legs. The mounting portion permits solderless mounting of the contact pin in plated-through holes of printed circuit boards. In a single combined stamping and cold extrusion operation, the three legs are brought to a position in which they make an angle of 120 degrees with each other. A die used for the production process includes a female and a male part. To form a first leg of the mounting portion, a punch in the male part is lowered into a corresponding slot in the female part. To form the two other legs, material from the shank of the contact pin is displaced by inclined surfaces of the female part into two recesses corresponding with these surfaces, the recesses being located at the two long sides of the punch in the male part.
