Abstract: Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer readable media are provided for providing category-sensitive chat channels. A category-sensitive chat channel may be provided. The category-sensitive chat channel may be assigned a given category level. The given category level may determine a scope of content allowed in the category-sensitive chat channel. Information to be posted through the category-sensitive chat channel may be obtained. The obtained information may be filtered based on the given category level. The filtered information may be posted in the category-sensitive chat channel.

Abstract: A method for transferring files and apparatus through Wi-Fi Direct are provided. The method includes: an obtaining step, for obtaining a multimedia attribute of a file to be transferred; a sending step, for sending the multimedia attribute obtained in the obtaining step; a receiving step, for receiving information of the multimedia attribute of the file to be transferred; and a judgment step, for judging, according to the information of the multimedia attribute received in the receiving step, whether a receiving end supports the type of the file to be transferred. The embodiment of the patent document solves the problem that the receiving end may know whether to support the type of the file only after completely receiving the file or performing an opening operation, thus leading to inconvenient use, which improves the user experience.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for the automated creation of targeted or focused content extractions and/or compilations (e.g., highlight reels). In one embodiment, the extractions or compilations are created for use in a content delivery network. In one variant, incoming live feeds are recorded. Time-stamped metadata from sources (either internal or external) able to identify moments and events of interest is used to parse or select portions of the live feeds to generate clips related thereto. Those clips are then sent to users (including optionally their mobile devices) for viewing. In some embodiments, a recommendation engine is used to select clips matching interests of a particular user or group of users. Varied sources of metadata may be used, and networked resources may be utilized to in the implementation of internal “excitement” monitoring systems.

Abstract: An input/output system and a method for a set-top box using a terminal include making a connection with the terminal including a display unit or a speaker through wired or wireless communication, determining whether the terminal is in a receive enable state for image data or audio data, and sharing the image data or the audio data with the terminal by transmitting the image data or the audio data to the terminal to output an image through the display unit of the terminal or to output audio through the speaker of the terminal, when the terminal is in the receive enable state for the image data or the audio data.

An Access device can be a stand alone device such as a DVD player in which the DVD disk contains the back-end information network. Other Access devices obtain the back-end information network from remote sources. Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a data transmission method and device, which are to be applied to a source client, wherein the source client is a client in a foreground running status in a mobile terminal, the mobile terminal, by means of a split-screen function, divides the display screen thereof into a first split screen for displaying a running interface of the source client and a second split screen for displaying a running interface of a target client, the target client is a client in a foreground running status in the mobile terminal. The method comprises: establishing a communication connection between the source client and the target client; receiving a drag instruction for a thumbnail of target data in the source client and moving the thumbnail according to the drag instruction; monitoring whether a data transmission instruction for the target data is received, if yes, transmitting the target data to the target client through the established communication connection.

Abstract: Systems and techniques for employing perceptual characteristic similarity for item replacement in media content are presented. The system can include an identification component, a matching component and a replacement component. The identification component identifies at least a portion of an item in a media file. The matching component determines a replacement item from a set of candidate items based on a comparison between perceptual characteristics associated with the item and corresponding perceptual characteristics associated with the set of candidate items. The replacement component replaces the item in the media file with at least a portion of the replacement item.

Abstract: A apparatus for dynamically modifying filter characteristics of a delta-sigma modulator in order to receive and transmit radio frequency signals over a wide frequency range. The system is used for wide bandwidth radio system designed to adapt to various global radio standards and, more particularly, to a cellular radio architecture that employs a combination of a single circulator, programmable band-pass sampling radio frequency (RF) front-end and optimized digital baseband that is capable of supporting all current cellular wireless access protocol frequency bands.

Abstract: A method, system, apparatus, article of manufacture, and computer program product provide the ability to ingest a media content file. The media content file to be uploaded and managed in an enterprise media framework (EMF) is selected. Media content file(s) to be tagged are also selected. A mask matcher identifies a mask (having multiple parts) that identifies a file structure of information associated with the media content file. For each of the multiple parts and based on the information associated with the media content file, metadata is calculated and applied to the media content file.

Abstract: A broadcast receiver according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a tuner for receiving a broadcast signal; a display module for displaying content on a main screen; an interface module for receiving, from a remote control, a first command for selecting a specific location on the main screen; and a controller for controlling the tuner, the display module, and the interface module, wherein the controller enlarges a specific region within a preset distance from the specific location according to the received first command, and displays the magnified specific region in a zoom window, and furthermore, the location of the zoom window varies according to a motion of the remote control.

Abstract: A technique for managing transitions between streaming media sources can include receiving a request from a client to change a streaming media source from an initial streaming media source to a next streaming media source. The initial streaming media source includes last segments being streamed to the client and the next streaming media source is selected by the client from a virtual master playlist. The technique further includes identifying the next streaming media source in a master playlist of a content delivery network, inserting a discontinuity between last segments of the initial streaming media source and first segments of the next streaming media source, and streaming the first segments of the next streaming media source to the client as a continuous stream from the last segments of the initial streaming media source with the discontinuity between the last segments and the first segments.

Abstract: In some aspects, control circuitry receives and stores a user-specified time duration to associate with a skip-forward command. When the user later issues a skip-forward command to advance playback of a media asset to a desired location, the control circuitry retrieves the stored time duration, and determines an expected overshoot value associated with the skip-forward command. The control circuitry then compensates for the expected overshoot by calculating a new location in the media asset based on both the retrieved time duration and expected overshoot value. Upon advancing to the new location, the media asset is played back in a fast-forward mode, e.g., at a speed higher than normal speed.

If it is determined that the switching condition is satisfied, information utilized to switch the content is output to the output unit.

The method for adjusting video playing progress includes: acquiring a keyword inputted by a user; determining at least one matching keyframe corresponding to the keyword in a target video, which includes at least one keyframe; displaying the at least one matching keyframe; and adjusting displaying progress of the target video to target displaying progress, when a selection operation on a keyframe of the at least one matching keyframe is detected, where the target displaying progress corresponds to the keyframe as indicated by the selection operation.

The storage stores association information that associates access information on the program processing apparatus corresponding to user identification information with the user identification information. The acquisition unit acquires the user identification information and program-specifying information that specifies a broadcast program. The controller specifies the access information on the association information from the user identification information. Then, the controller causes the program processing apparatus to perform processing regarding the broadcast program specified by the program-specifying information acquired by the acquisition unit by using the access information.

Abstract: A video ingest, search and delivery solution is provided in which videos and their associated metadata are ingested based on ingest criteria. Moments in the metadata are identified by parsing comments in the metadata for comments that reference a time in the video. Moments are recorded with the referenced time and the text of the comment. Videos are rated and may be delivered to users based at least in part on the rating. Moments may be displayed together with the video by displaying the text of moments at the associated time in the video as the video is being delivered. The text of moment records may be searched based on search parameters received form a user to identify videos to deliver to the user.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for delivering multimedia content from the cloud to cable operators are disclosed. A device located at the cable headend or implemented in the cloud can receive a request for at least one media stream for playback on a broadcast media channel. Content corresponding to a plurality of multimedia files in the media stream can be obtained from the internet or a cloud based service. The content can be used to generate the multimedia files in a format that is compatible with the cable operator. The multimedia files can be used to assemble the at least one media stream which can be provided to the cable operator for broadcast on the broadcast media channel.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies are disclosed herein for creating a manifest file at a time of creating recorded content. A video device can request media content from a content source and receive the media content requested. The media content can be received with metadata from the content source. The video device can record the media content to generate recorded content and create, during the recording of the media content, a manifest file that includes at least a portion of the metadata that is received from the content source. The video device can store the recorded content and the manifest file.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for maintaining a programming lineup of adaptive-bitrate content streaming is provided. The apparatus includes a timeline module configured to maintain a programming lineup of media content available over a network. The media content may comprise a plurality of streamlets. The apparatus also includes at least one data module configured to maintain multi-bitrate streamlet information. The system includes the apparatus and a client module configured to acquire content based upon the programming lineup provided by the timeline module. While displaying the first video stream, the electronic device downloads and stores a first portion of a second video stream and receives a request to display the second video stream on the display. In response to receiving the request, the electronic device starts to play the second video stream using the first portion of the second video stream, if the first portion of the second video stream meets recency criteria with respect to a current stream time of the second video stream. But if the first portion of the second video stream does not meet the recency criteria, the electronic device requests a second portion of the second video stream that is outside of the first portion of the second video stream.

The media content provider continually records and or otherwise stores video and audio content from around the world. Stored content will generally correspond to a large number of other media content providers, such as cable television operators, Internet based media content providers, television networks, and so on. Subscribers to the media provider interact with the media content provider via hardware and/or software mechanisms either provided by the media content provider or conforming to specifications of the media content provider. Based on these subscriber's subscriptions to the other content providers, the subscribers will have viewing, listening, or application execution privileges for content maintained in the data store. Content of a subscriber corresponding to multiple video content providers is maintained and served by a single provider.

The method comprises steps of receiving a video content item from a content provider, e.g., a 2-minute video advertisement for a car from an advertiser, and analyzing the video content item. The video content item is segmented into multiple segments based on the analysis, e.g., scene changes detected with the video frames of the video content item. One or more segments are selected, e.g., based on their associated visual quality, and are combined to generate a preview video, e.g., a 10-second long video highlighting new features of the car. One or more transition segments can be added between segments to enhance user experience with the preview video. The preview video is provided to a client device for display and auto playback.

Abstract: A scheduled programming recommendation system narrows down a user's electronic program guide to a short list of about a dozen recommended programs. The list is customized to the user's own interests according to a point scoring algorithm that compares program data with data from the user's viewing history. The content receiver is programmed to offer alternatives to users while engaged in a program, or within a short time interval near the end of a program. If the user switches to another ongoing program, there is an option to start the new program at the beginning. This option is made possible by a feature of the scheduled programming recommendation system that automatically records recommended programs in a background memory location, separate from the user's recorder memory space. Only recommended programs are automatically recorded. Access to recorded content is provided exclusively via the recommended list.

For example, in one embodiment, a method performed by a digital video recorder is disclosed that includes communicating with a home gateway to determine whether a device connected to the home gateway has enough free storage space to store a television program in the event that the digital video recorder determines that an internal data storage unit associated with the digital video recorder has enough free storage space to store the television program. Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for determining whether a client device is authorized to receive media content based at least in part on the call signs of broadcast stations that the client device is able to receive. A computing device receives a broadcast station identifier and a program identifier from a client computing device. The computing device determines that the client computing device is authorized to access media content identified by the program identifier based at least in part on the broadcast station identifier. Finally, the computing device streams the media content to the client computing device in response to determining that the client computing device is authorized to access the media content.

A corresponding instruction understandable by an unrelated controlled device is generated by the networked server, and the corresponding instruction is operable to cause the controlled device to perform the received instruction. The networked server may transmit the corresponding instruction to the controlled device.

Abstract: Bandwidth optimized channel surfing allow users to experience channel surfing without delay between switching channels when buffering delays are a concern. Audio associated with the surfed channel can be presented to the user in full. Video can be presented at lower frame rates per second than for continuous video. Video sampling or channel surfing mode can mean, for example, that 5 frames per second are displayed to the user. Main video viewing mode can display the full 24 or more frames per second that continuous video is presented at. An interface for channel surfing can determine an automatic switch back to full video. This switch back to full frames per second can occur when a user has hovered over a channel being surfed for a pre-determined amount of time. A user interactive selection of the channel can also result in the switch from channel surfing to main video viewing mode.

Abstract: A method for reestablishing presentation of a paused media program is disclosed. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a Set-Top Box (STB) located in a building can have a controller element that presents a media program to a media device operable only in the building, pauses presentation of the media program responsive to a pause request, generates a departure mark that identifies a presentation point in the media program associated with the pause request, receives a request to resume presentation of the media program from the departure mark at a portable communication device capable of maintaining communications with the STB outside the building, and transmits to the portable communication device a presentation of the media program from the departure mark. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A technique for determining annotation items associated with video information is described. During this annotation technique, a content item that includes audio information and the video information is received. For example, a file may be downloaded from a uniform resource locator. Then, the audio information is extracted from the content item, and the audio information is analyzed to determine features or descriptors that characterize the audio information. Note that the features may be determined solely by analyzing the audio information or may be determined by subsequent further analysis of at least some of the video information based on the analysis of the audio information (i.e., sequential or cascaded analysis). Next, annotation items or tags associated with the video information are determined based on the features.
