Abstract: A gear includes teeth 3 to be engaged with teeth of a corresponding gear to transmit a rotational motion, in which a form (b) of a tooth root side of each tooth 3 includes: a first curved surface c which smoothly connects with a tooth surface a having an involute curve and has a profile represented by a curve which is convex in a direction opposite to the involute curve of the tooth surface a; and a second curved surface d which smoothly connects with the first curved surface c and has a profile defined by a quadratic function having a curve being convex in the same direction as that of the first curved surface c. Therefore, a stress generated on the tooth root side at the time of engagement with the teeth of the corresponding gear can be reduced, and the strength of the teeth can be increased.

Abstract: An angle sensor for determining a rotation angle of a rotatable body, such as a steering column in a motor vehicle, includes a gear wheel. The orientation of a magnetic field generated by the gearwheel is configured to be detected by a magnetic field sensor. The gear wheel is comprised of a magnetisable material, such as hard ferrite, into which a magnetisation is introduced. The gear wheel is stronger in a central region than in an edge region in which the teeth are arranged. In order to weakly magnetise the edge region, which minimizes a negative influence of the teeth on the homogeneity of the generated magnetic field, the front face of the gear wheel is configured to be magnetized. The magnetisation process advantageously takes place at the same time as an injection moulding process to form the gearwheel. A method is implemented to produce the gear wheel.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a bearing assembly rotatingly supporting a pinion shaft of a differential for a motor vehicle. The bearing assembly has inner and outer rolling-contact bearings arranged in axially spaced-apart relationship and disposed in O-configuration. A driving gear is arranged on the pinion shaft between the inner and outer rolling-contact bearings and held on the pinion shaft circumferentially in fixed rotative engagement and/or formfitting engagement. Adjacent to the driving gear on the pinion shaft is an intermediate ring and adjacent thereto is an inner ring of the outer rolling-contact bearing. A locking ring is clamped in an annular groove of the pinion shaft. A spring element biases the driving gear against an annular shoulder of the pinion shaft via the intermediate ring and inner ring of the outer rolling-contact bearing, with the spring element being constrained between the inner ring of the outer rolling-contact bearing and the locking ring.

Abstract: A gear and drive system utilizing the gear include teeth. Each of the teeth has a first side and a second side opposite the first side that extends from a body of the gear. For each tooth of the gear, a first extended portion is attached to the first side of the tooth to divert flow of fluid adjacent to the body of the gear to reduce windage losses that occur when the gear rotates. The gear may be utilized in drive systems that may have high rotational speeds, such as speeds where the tip velocities are greater than or equal to about 68 m/s. Some embodiments of the gear may also utilize teeth that also have second extended portions attached to the second sides of the teeth to divert flow of fluid adjacent to the body of the gear to reduce windage losses that occur when the gear rotates.
