    Abstract: A noise damping device is proposed for the reduction and smoothing out of compressional vibrations of a conveying medium, especially fuel conveyed by fuel feed pumps, which device serves for diminishing the continuous pressure vibrations by means of suitable damping installations in the fuel circulation. The noise damping device comprises arrangements comprising locations of discontinuity, cross-sectional changes, changes in the flow path as well as including at least one wall section which yields in an elastically resilient manner, whereby a simultaneous dynamic volume change is likewise produced. Such pressure vibration damping devices can be arranged at any desired point in the fuel circulation, preferably in the zone of the pressure connection of the fuel feed pump, and can have the form of barometric bellows, accordion bellows, corrugated hoses, and the like.

The control apparatus comprises sensors which furnish signals according to the attitude of the throttle valve, as well as the rpm of the internal combustion engine and the temperature of a catalytic converter situated in the exhaust pipe, and further comprises means for the evaluation of these signals as well as for the interruption of the fuel supply to the internal combustion engine and the introduction of supplementary air during overrunning at catalytic converter temperatures above the proper operating temperature for that device.

    Abstract: An internal combustion engine in which some of the combustion chamber walls are kept at temperatures which are higher than the temperature of the remaining parts of the combustion chamber. The temperature control of the selected portions of the combustion chamber is performed by heat pipes which lie adjacent to thin combustion chamber walls and which transfer heat from these walls to other parts of the engine which are adjacent to coolant channels. The presence of the heat pipe insures a relatively low thermal inertia of the adjacent combustion chamber walls, permitting their rapid heating after cold starting and the presence of the heat pipe prevents excessive temperatures due to the ability to carry away heat from these parts of the combustion chamber at higher temperatures. The temperature-controlled combustion chamber walls may be provided in auxiliary combustion chambers, prechambers or antechambers.

    Abstract: A control apparatus for a fuel injection pump of a diesel combustion engine is proposed, in which the fuel delivery adjustment element of the injection pump is moved to its zero adjustment position when the engine cuts off, is held in this position (roll-start lock), and can reach its start-position only in accordance with standard starting procedure. The control apparatus includes a hydraulically actuated correcting element, that can be placed under fuel delivery pump pressure by means of a directional control valve for displacing the fuel delivery adjustment element into its zero adjustment position. The correcting element is locked by a slide lock, likewise controlled by delivery pump pressure. The slide lock is brought into its blocking position when the delivery pump pressure drops sufficiently, and retracted only when the driver actuates the directional control valve and the delivery pump pressure increases when the engine starts.

This is accomplished by engaging an hydraulic circuit, which is intended to transfer the motion of the travel limiting flexible element, with the assistance of a disengagement device. The disengagement device has a piston, which is subject to spring pressure on one side and to reservoir pressure on the other side and which eliminates the effect of the travel-limiting flexible element with the aid of a piston rod.

    Abstract: What follows is a description of a composite aerodynamic rotor blade assembly which has been optimized from the standpoint of both fabrication cost and structural integrity. The rotor blade is fabricated using fewer overall assemblies to optimize cost and includes an aft fairing structure which is uniquely characterized in that it includes not only the typical elements of an aft fairing structure of the composite blade, but the spar heel as well. In assembly the skin members of the aft fairing structure are secured between the spar heel and the cap member of the assembly. This insures a fail-safe design and in this way the skin members are enabled to carry load effectively. The deicing blanket is assembled with the spar and cap member so that its supporting structural material serves as a load carrying member. Also, the spar, the inboard termination of the cap member, and the spar heel together form the root end of the rotor blade into which the torsion splices are formed.
