Abstract: A fuel supply device, which serves to predetermine a fuel quantity that is proportional to the aspirated air quantity, and also serves to spread the air-fuel mixture. The fuel supply device includes an air metering device, which is arranged in the air intake manifold of the internal combustion engine and activates a fuel metering device, which has a control slit that opens a control groove by a varying amount. The control slit and the control groove are rotatable relative to each other, and the control groove has at least one control edge, which overlaps the control slit and is formed at an angle relative to the axis of rotation. The control slit is arranged in a guide sleeve and the control groove is arranged in a rotatable sleeve mounted in the guide sleeve with the rotatable sleeve being arbitrarily shifted relative to the guide sleeve.

Abstract: A pressure pickup for measuring the pressure in the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine. The pressure pickup comprises a part, movable in response to the manifold pressure, to which is coupled means for short-circuiting the magnetic flux lines of an electromagnet so that the change in flux lines is detected by the electromagnetic coil and measured by an induction evaluation circuit and thus indirectly measuring the manifold pressure.

Abstract: A method of mounting valve seats in a butterfly valve comprising a valve body mounted in a valve stem in a valve housing. The valve seats are attached to the valve housing so as to contact the periphery of the valve body when the valve is closed. End surfaces of the valve seats are adjusted relative to the valve stem and seal members by means of first bolts. Then, the first bolts are replaced with third bolts for pressing the valve seats against the periphery of the valve body.
Abstract: An electronic circuit is described for use with an existing fuel injection system in which fuel control pulses are generated on the basis of air flow rate, engine speed and exhaust gas composition. In particular, the existing fuel injection system is assumed to include an exhaust gas sensor with a signal integrator and a throttle position switch which indicates a closed throttle. It is also assumed that the fuel injection system shuts off fuel control pulses when the throttle is closed and engine speed drops below a predetermined value. The present circuit is intended to recognize this fuel shutoff and to set the integrator at an average value irrespective of the "too lean" signal which it receives from the exhaust gas sensor. In this way, upon termination of fuel shutoff, the engine will receive an average mixture rather than a highly enriched one.
Abstract: A circuit for use in conjunction with the fuel injection controller of an internal combustion engine in which fuel injection valve control pulses are generated on the basis of engine information, for example, engine speed and air flow rate. When the engine is being operated at negative torque (downhill operation, engine braking) the valve control pulses are suppressed. This condition is detected by comparing the length of preliminary control pulses with a reference pulse generated by a monostable multivibrator which is triggered by pulses synchronous with engine speed. A first comparator circuit sets a bistable multivibrator when the preliminary pulses are shorter than the reference pulse and a second comparator circuit resets the bistable multivibrator in the opposite case. The bistable multivibrator controls an output elemet which can suppress the valve control pulses in one of the two states.
Abstract: A bimetal device with an electrical heating element which serves for temperature-dependent control is provided. The bimetal device has a thin insulating layer, on which is arranged at least one electrical resistance layer which serves as a heating element. The resistance layer can be placed on the base of the bimetal device by means of vapor depositing or by thick film technology. In this manner a plurality of resistance layers can be provided that are insulated from each other and of which one serves for continual heating. It can also be useful to provide only one resistance layer which is connected in series with a PTC resistor and holds the bimetal device at a certain temperature. The embodiment of the electrical heating element as a resistance layer makes possible a very rapid heating of the bimetal.

Abstract: Defective and/or deformed capsules, for example, hard gelatin capsules, are identified and removed from a supply of such capsules by causing the ordered, sequential transport of capsules through a dimensionally calibrated passage in which a defective capsule is arrested while the preceding train of capsules is permitted to continue. The gap in the train of capsules is detected by a photoelectric sensor or the like, after which the machine member in which the calibrated passage is located is moved to the vicinity of a reject container, compressed air is admitted to the passage and the defective capsule is expelled into the reject container. The application of the compressed air and the movement of the machine member to the reject container may be under the control of the photoelectric sensor signal.
Abstract: A fuel metering system of an internal combustion engine is regulated by a data processor which has stored data prescribing the proper amount of fuel to be metered out for particular positions of the throttle valve and for particular values of the engine rpm. This preliminary adjustment is further refined by providing the data processor with feedback data concerning actual engine operating parameters, e.g. the exhaust gas composition, engine speed fluctuation and temperature. The feedback data is used by the data processor to override and further adjust the fuel quantity metered out to the engine.

Abstract: For use in association with a fuel mixture preparation system of an internal combustion engine which uses closed-loop control based on exhaust chemistry as determined by an oxygen sensor, there is described a circuit which monitors the operational readiness of the oxygen sensor on the basis of its internal resistance. The measurement takes place in a bridge circuit which is supplied with current whenever the sensor is non-operative but which becomes inactive when the sensor is at normal temperatures. The bridge voltages are fed to a comparator which generates an average output value when the oxygen sensor is not yet ready for operation and this average signal is processed in an integrator for final control of the fuel-air mixture.

Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines, which has improved and simplified means for a throttled preliminary shut-off to prevent cavitation in the injection system and late injections by the fuel injection valves. The pump piston is provided with two recesses that terminate in chamfered control edges and control the end of the delivery cycle and also contains a throttle bore, which has a cross bore, and connects the first recess, which is opened shortly before the other recess, with the pump operating chamber by means of a longitudinal bore in the pump piston. The second recess has an unthrottled connection to the pump operating chamber.
Abstract: A process for manufacturing inorganic heat insulating material by mixing up water-soluble alkali silicate, alumina cement, metal base foaming agent and foam stabilizing agent into pasty state under presence of water. The heat insulating material manufactured by this process is of the class useful for heat insulating walls of buildings and for heat insulating plates incorporated in machinery.
Abstract: A control circuit for a fuel injection system which modifies the control pulses of the electromagnetic valves during engine starting. The width of the normal injection control pulses determines the amount of fuel and is derived from engine parameters, in particular rpm and air flow rate. When stating the engine, the control circuit is actuated by the starting switch of the engine and causes suppression of the normal control pulses. A multivibrator generates substitute starting control pulses whose duration is changed by altering the time constant of the multivibrator in response to the signal from a temperature transducer.

Abstract: A device for controlling the admission of additional gas, such as exhaust gas, to the induction tube of the engine so that additional gas quantities are admitted to the induction tube only during partial load operation. The device includes an additional gas quantity valve situated within the induction tube. The valve includes, in its various embodiments, structure to assure a high tolerance factor in the engagement of the valve seat and the movable valve member so that wear and temperature effects will not adversely affect the control of the additional gas quantity flow.
Abstract: The fuel mixture of an engine is controlled by a mechanism responsive to the signals from an oxygen sensor located in the exhaust pipe. The oxygen sensor is provided with a heater to permit rapid attainment of normal operating temperatures. The heater is controlled by a switch actuated by a timing circuit. The timing circuit closes the switch whenever the alternating signals from a comparator responsive to sensor signals do not occur, indicating sensor non-operation.

Abstract: A control device for diesel-injection internal combustion engines, whose hydraulically activated adjusting member moves the regulating rod of the fuel injection pump in the "stop" direction when the discharge of the hydraulic medium is blocked by a magnetic valve, and simultaneously serves as an arbitrarily engageable full-load or delivery rate reducing stop for the regulating rod. The control device includes a first electromagnet, which activates the valve member of the magnetic valve, and a second electromagnet, whose control member limits the adjusting movement of the adjusting member, which can be controlled by the valve member of the first electromagnet, to a position that serves as the full-load or lower rate stop for the regulating rod of the injection pump, when the second electromagnet is engaged. This limitation takes place mechanically or by opening a return line, which determines the position of an adjusting piston that is connected with the adjusting member.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine with a main combustion chamber defined by the cylinder and the piston has a separate ignition chamber located in the cylinder head which communicates with the main combustion chamber through a narrow channel. The channel terminates tangentially in the chamber and the flow of combustible mixture into the chamber generates therein a vortex which aids in ignition and combustion. The chamber includes spark-producing electrodes but does not receive additional fuel. In order to improve the ignition process, i.e., to lower the energy required for ignition, the walls of the ignition chamber are cooled to a controlled degree by changing the size of an air gap when the chamber expands or contracts, thereby changing the heat flow from the ignition chamber to the cooled portions of the engine.
Abstract: A high pressure fuel injection system includes a pump-type fuel injection nozzle assembly provided with a sliding control valve which admits pressurized fuel or opens a return channel. A pressure chamber situated near the end of the needle valve of the nozzle remote from its seat is connected via a bypass channel with a region downstream of the sliding valve for the purpose of exerting a hydraulic closing force on the needle valve. The pressure in the bypass channel is controlled by the motions of the sliding valve. Alternatively, the additional hydraulic pressure may be exerted on the needle by an intermediate piston.
Abstract: A fuel metering valve assembly includes an air flow metering member which actuates the movable part of a fuel metering valve. Depending on the displacement of this movable part, two cooperating openings, a control slot and a shaped control orifice, together define the effective flow cross section for the fuel delivered to the engine. In order to improve the resolution of the path of the moving part of the valve assembly, one of the cooperating openings, e.g. the control orifice, is formed as a triangular opening in a sleeve or bushing surrounding an axially slidable shaft which supports the air flow rate-responsive member. The triangular opening may also be defined within the wall of the shaft. The width of the control slot is defined by a spacer ring between two coaxial partial bushings and one edge of the triangular opening is defined by the oblique line separating two partial sleeves.

Abstract: A work vehicle having a work arm assembly mounted for horizontal oscillation on a swivel platform. The arm assembly and the swivel platform are actuated by separate hydraulic actuators. The two actuators are connected in parallel with one another to a control valve via a circuit selection valve.
