Abstract: A load-dependent brake force controller including a lever mechanism with a variable fulcrum and a control mechanism which is arranged to bring the brake force controller into a middle position upon failure of the connecting linkage which includes a two-part shaft, one driving shaft part fixedly attached to a lever moved by the vehicle axle and indirectly coupled via an excursion limiter embodied as a torque coupling to a sled for varying the support point of the fulcrum with the other shaft fixedly coupled to the sled, wherein the control mechanism is disposed in the vicinity of the confronting ends of the two-part shaft and usually exerts a largely ineffective torque on the driving shaft part but, upon a fracture or failure of the driving linkage, acts on the second shaft part with a torque that is greater than the torque exerted by the excursion limiter.
Abstract: A speed control system for a vehicle, especially an internal combustion powered vehicle, includes a driver-settable member which has up to four distinct regions of adjustment, namely idling, deceleration, cruising and acceleration. The cruising region includes a mechanical or other pressure point to provide a sensible signal to the operator of the vehicle indicating the constant speed region. The apparatus of the invention prescribes a function generator which generates a voltage as a non-linear function of the driver-settable member and supplies it to a voltage-controlled oscillator. The output signal of the oscillator is fed to an integrating stage whose direction of integration is controlled by suitable logical circuits which detect the region occupied by the driver-settable member and the difference between the set-point value supplied by the integrator and the actual vehicle or engine speed. Other circuitry controls idling rpm.
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for delivery of fuel under high pressure to combustion chambers and in which the fuel is delivered by a rotating and reciprocating pump piston. The relative angular position of the pump piston with respect to its drive shaft defines the timing of fuel injection. This timing is varied in accordance with engine speed by a hydraulic servo-mechanism which includes a piston moving against two springs, one of which comes into engagement before the other so that the change of injection timing as a function of engine speed follows two different curves.
Abstract: A fuel injection system, in which an adjustment in the fuel injection point, which is dependent on the load, is accomplished by controlling the pressurized fluid with a regulator sleeve, which dams the fuel quantity diverted by the regulator sleeve in order to conduct this dynamic pressure to the fuel injection point adjusting piston or to the pressure control valve, to influence the control pressure therewith.
Abstract: The invention relates to fuel injection nozzles having a bored nozzle body terminating in a blind bore positioned in proximity to a plural series of fuel injection ports one series of which are in communication with a valve seat and arranged to be opened and closed by a slidable valve. The valve needle also includes an axial bore that provides for fuel pressure communication with the blind bore in the nozzle body.
Abstract: A particle sorting and analyzing apparatus operating on the Coulter prince, with two chambers containing an electrolyte which is caused to flow through an orifice connecting the two chambers. The particles to be analyzed are introduced into the first chamber just ahead of the orifice. An electric field is established in the electrolyte by two electrodes, located in the first and second chamber, respectively. After passing out of the second chamber through an atomizing nozzle, selected droplets containing particles are charged and then deflected. The electrical currents generated by the charging processes are kept from interacting with the measuring currents by a third electrode, located in the second chamber in the vicinity of the nozzle and kept at the same potential as the other electrode in the second chamber. The third electrode effectively short-circuits the current path in the second chamber and grounds out spurious electrical disturbances.

Abstract: A sensor which determines an operational variable of a system, for example an oxygen sensor of an internal combustion engine, generates a usable output voltage only at the proper elevated temperature. In order to uncouple the control loop from an improperly operating sensor, i.e., a cold sensor, the internal resistance of the sensor is monitored by passing through it a test current and by comparing the resulting voltage drop to a set-point value. Whenever the internal resistance is too high, indicating non-readiness, the control loop is opened and a substitute average output value is supplied to the fuel injection system or to the system driven by the control loop. During normal operation, the sensor is tested periodically with short test pulses to continuously monitor the operational readiness, but the main test current is normally shut off, thereby preventing falsification of the output signal.
Abstract: In the operation of an internal combustion engine, certain operating parameters, for example the length of fuel injection pulses, the ignition timing and the exhaust gas recycle rate can be adjusted on the basis of information related to state variables of the engine, for example the engine speed, the induction tube pressure, the air flow rate and the like. In particular, the injection pulse length may be determined from data stored in a memory and addressed by a pair of numbers related to the instantaneous values of engine speed and air flow rate. This type of open loop control is rapid and may be very exact but does not account for long-range changes in engine behavior due to wear, etc. For this reason, additional circuitry senses a further state variable, for example, the oxygen content of the exhaust gas or the engine roughness, and uses this information in a feedback loop to generate a correction signal which is then applied in a rate multiplier to the basic fuel injection datum.
Abstract: An apparatus for purifying a fibrous suspension which contains contaminants of varying size and mass has a housing and a rotor for imparting a vortex motion to the fluid contained in the housing. Lighter contaminants are collected in the core of the vortex and travel generally on axis to an opening in the end of the housing. Heavier contaminants acquire radial velocity due to centrifugal force and migrate to the wall of the housing when the stream is deviated by nearly 180.degree.. The liquid then traverses a surrounding screen which retains further contaminants. Provision is made for comminuting specks and the like.
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines includes a reciprocating and rotating pump piston. Fuel delivery to the pressure line connected to an injection valve can be interrupted by the opening of a main control orifice in the wall of the cylinder which permits fuel to return to a low pressure volume of the pump. In order to provide for pressure relief of the pressure line when no injection takes place, there are provided a pressure control valve and a pressure relief conduit which bypasses this valve. The pressure relief conduit terminates in an auxiliary control orifice in the wall of the cylinder and is also obturated by the piston during its motion. The two control orifices are so located as to be opened in a predetermined sequence. The piston surface includes portions which block the auxiliary control orifice during engine starting.
Abstract: The disclosure relates to the automotive art in general and in particular to a checking and measurement device for an automobile chassis, comprising measurement scale carriers which are adjustable in correspondence with the spatial position of measurement points in a vehicle chassis. Each one of the measurement scale carriers consists of a transverse arm disposed for measuring in the transverse direction of the chassis, the arms having, at each end portion, a guide for a releasable measurement rod which may be connected to each respective arm end portion for measuring in the vertical direction of the chassis and is of adjustable length, which has means for pivotal suspension of the measurement rod in a chassis measurement point and means for adjusting the measurement rod in the transverse direction of the arm for measuring in the transverse direction of the chassis.
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines in which fuel is pressurized and distributed seriatim to multiple cylinders of the engine. The fuel delivery timing, for example the timing of the onset of injection, is made variable, e.g. depending on engine speed, and the amount of fuel injected is also variable and may, in particular, also depend on engine speed. In one embodiment, the relative rotation of the fuel delivery member made for the purpose of changing the fuel timing is also imparted to the fuel magnitude control assembly which therefore undergoes no change and remains independently adjustable. Two other embodiments are also presented.
Abstract: A centrifugal rpm governor for fuel injected motor vehicles, in which the control stroke, which is detected by a lever controlled follower on an adapting surface, is enlarged for a more precise control of the adaptation. A translated shift lever is used as the control lever, which is coupled with the governor adjusting member and the lever carrying the follower. To improve the quality of the governor, the shift lever engages an adapting lever, which carries the follower and which is arranged nearly parallel to the intermediate lever. By means of an adjusting member, which is provided with an adapting control and retraction spring, and which is separated in the governor and adapting sleeve, the use of the governor as an idling as well as a maximum rpm governor is made possible.

Abstract: A mixture control device for a fuel-injected internal combustion engine in which an air flow meter in the induction tube is associated with a slide valve which opens and closes a fuel metering orifice. A differential pressure valve is connected across the metering orifice and one chamber of the differential pressure valve is connected to a servo-motor which moves the main fuel control rod of the fuel injection system. When the amount of fuel delivered to the engine is different from that metered out by the orifice, the pressure in the differential valve changes, causing a temporary admission of pressurized fuel to the servo-motor, which adjusts the position of the main fuel control rod until equilibrium is re-established. Several embodiments are presented, including exhaust gas recycling.
Abstract: A continuous fuel injection system for metering out fuel to the induction tube of an internal combustion engine. An air flow metering assembly in the induction tube includes a baffle plate which is set with its plane perpendicular to the air flow vector and is mounted on a shaft which slides axially in bearings. As a result of the air flow, the baffle plate is displaced axially to varying extent and this displacement is opposed by a restoring force provided by pressurized fuel and subject to adjustment on the basis of engine variables. A vaned impeller wheel, mounted on the baffle shaft, causes rotation of the shaft in the bearings, thereby eliminating static friction and preventing hysteresis effects. The centrifugal forces generated by the rotation aid in distributing the fuel and in admixing it with the incoming air.

Abstract: A filtering apparatus for the filtering of fibers and equivalent material from flowing air, and in particular for use in textile operations, has been invented in which the fiber material is firmly compacted so that as much fiber material as possible may be accommodated in a given volume of a collecting container attached to the filtering apparatus. For this purpose the filtering apparatus has a hollow fiber filtering assembly into which the flowing air is guided, a conveyor screw and a motor to drive the conveyor screw toward an outlet of the filtering assembly. The filtering assembly also includes at least one filter, with the outlet located downstream in the direction of movement of the fiber material, and at least one braking component located near the outlet which serves to brake the motion of the fiber material induced by the conveyor screw and to compact the fiber material firmly.
