Abstract: A closure membrane is described for closing a can opening which membrane comprises a flat part and a peripherally adjoining border zone destined to be hermetically sealingly connected to the can. In order to remove the flat part of the membrane safely and completely an opening is provided in the flat part of the membrane. This opening in the membrane is hermetically sealed by a piece of foil attached to the underside of the membrane and forming a tab element the bent back end of which projects out of the opening and forms the tab proper.
Abstract: An electromagnetic valve is equipped with a signal generator which operates in dependence on the positions assumed by the internal valve mechanism and which represents a relatively small unit which is attached in various positions to the housing of the magnetic actuator mechanism of the valve. The signal generator has at least one electrical switch which is actuated mechanically by a pin which transmits the motions of the armature to the switch without any appreciable interference with the operation of the magnetic mechanism. The switch is mounted within a housing on an insert which may be located in various positions relative to the housing and may suitably be a microswitch. Thesignal generator housing is sealingly attached to a mounting bracket which, in turn, is mounted on the housing of the magnetic actuator of the valve. The passage of the actuating pin is sealed against the outside by appropriate seals.
Abstract: A diaphragm valve which may serve as an equal pressure valve or as a pressure equalizing valve of a fuel metering and distributing unit for an externally ignited internal combustion engine. The valve has a flexible diaphragm the diameter of which is clamped between the housing and a bottom plate. Included is an adjusting device for controlling tension of a spring that encompasses the stem of the valve with the lower surface of the spring arranged to rest on the upper surface of the diaphragm. The adjusting device is disposed at an angle relative to the valve axis and engages the rim of a plate that is chamfered to correspond to the inclination of the adjusting member. By means of the adjusting device, the spring plate can be minutely adjusted in its axial position thereby changing the valve spring tension.
Abstract: A prime source of mechanical power comprising an expansion chamber, an inlet into which expansible fluid is injected, and an outlet through which said fluid is exhausted after expansion in said chamber. Expansion of the fluid is achieved by application of a heat source directly to the expansion chamber, which expansion acts through a piston to create useful mechanical motion. The engine is preferably of a reciprocating type, while the heat source can be solar, gaseous, petroleum, nuclear, or electrical.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for the determination of the injection time in externally ignited internal combustion engines, which serve to provide the optimal injection time under given operating conditions, this injection time being derived on the basis of the rpm and the angle of the throttle valve wherein a basic injection time signal is derived from an rpm and a throttle valve angle signal and this signal is subsequently modified by means of a controlled nonlinear function generator to closely approximate an empirically ascertained optimal value for the injection time under given operating conditions, the basic injection time signal being formed in a divider circuit to provide an output signal which is fed to at least one nonlinearity function generator controllable in accordance with the throttle valve angle and the rpm.
Abstract: A long-term endoprosthesis in which a relatively large part of the surface, which in the implanted condition makes contact with the bone of the wearer of the implant, is provided with electrodes. These electrodes are connected with a source of a low frequency electrical voltage and are so arranged that they alternate with relatively short spacings in the contact zone. The electrode spacing preferably decreases in size in accordance with the size of the mechanical area loading on the corresponding part of the contact area, that is to say, the greater the loading, the smaller the spacing.
Abstract: An apparatus which serves to clean air containing fine dust and also larger particles, such as fibrous material, thread ends, etc., which are produced in an industrial environment, especially a textile plant. In order to conduct a two-stage cleaning process without the necessity of dimensioning two filtering stages for the full air flow, there is provided a vortex chamber into which the unclean air is admitted tangentially or in some manner which produces a rotary flow with centrifugal force components which act on the larger particles in the air stream. The vortex chamber includes a rotating filter drum, the interior of which may preferably be provided with suction, causing air to flow from the vortex chamber through the filter, depositing thereon the fine dust carried by the incoming air.
Abstract: A beam-tilting device for headlights of a motor vehicle in which pneumatic modulators respond to the degree of chassis loading, i.e. to the degree of vehicle spring compression and admit pressurized air or vacuum to one or the other side of a differential pressure servo mechanism which tilts the headlights in proportion to the differential load. In order to prevent unnecessary operation of the tilting mechanism during daylight operation of the vehicle, there is provided a monitor shutoff valve which is energized by the headlight switch and which blocks the supply of air to the modulators when the headlights are inoperative, thereby reducing wear and noise.
Abstract: A fuel injection system for continuous fuel injection into the induction manifold of an internal combustion engine. Upstream of the main throttle, there is disposed a baffle plate on a pivoting lever which act as an air flow rate meter and displaces the slide valve of a fuel metering assembly in proportion to the air flow rate. An electromagnetic actuator, attached to the induction tube, has a movable armature on which there is disposed a spring. During engine starting at temperatures below approximately 30 degrees C., the restoring force on the air flow rate meter is so low that the force of the actuator spring is able to displace the pivoting lever and the slide valve in the direction of greater fuel delivery, thereby providing cold starting assistance. In other embodiments, the temperature dependence is increased by using a bimetallic spring on the actuator.In a further embodiment, the actuator is attached to the operating lever.
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for linearizing the output signal of a probe such as a hot-wire probe used for quantitative air measurement in the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine which includes a log stage, a multiplier stage and an antilog stage connected in series, the probe signal being applied to the input of the log stage and the linearized output signal taken from the output of the antilog stage.
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for converting an inductance value into a specific frequency particularly for producing a pressure-dependent frequency fully compensated against variations in temperature for injection systems in internal combustion engines. The circuit arrangement comprises a comparator, the output of which is connected to a series circuit comprising at least one diode, a coil with variable inductance and a temperature-dependent resistor, all connected to a current supply line with the end of the coil opposite the comparator output coupled back to a first input of the comparator. The potential of the second input of the comparator can be affected by the output value of a voltage divider between the two current supply lines and a regenerative feedback line emanating from the output of the comparator. During the operation of the circuit arrangement, a pulse sequence is obtained, the frequency of which is determined by the inductance.
Abstract: A conveyor having a frame, a piston and cylinder unit operable by means of pressure fluid and secured in the frame, a spring assembly for actuation of the piston, a holder mounted on the frame and reciprocable by means of the piston and cylinder unit and carrying a conveyor path for receiving articles. The piston and cylinder unit has inlet and outlet valves and throttle means at the outlet of the outlet valve. A control rod connected to the piston of the piston and cylinder unit is adapted to allow control of the cross-sectional passage area of the throttle means. The control rod has a back-off section which merges into the full diameter of the rod at one end over a long distance and at the other end over a considerably shorter distance. The conveyor permits moving articles by a throwing movement also along a slightly upwardly inclining conveyor path.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatic arrest of the motor in a motor vehicle in conditions of standstill or near-standstill, for example when the motor reaches speeds at or below the stalling speed with an engaged drive line. In stop-and-go driving, the invention includes monitoring the vehicle speed, the motor speed and the state of actuation of the accelerator pedal and the clutch pedal. If a set of conditions is met, for example that the vehicle speed is below 3 kilometers per hour, and that neither the accelerator pedal nor the clutch pedal are depressed, and the engine temperature is sufficiently high, the apparatus of the invention automatically arrests the engine either by fuel shut-off or by ignition shut-off or both. A depression of the clutch pedal restarts the engine. The invention further provides for automatic fuel shut-off to the motor under the conditions of engine braking, i.e., operation with closed throttle and relatively high motor speed.
Abstract: A control device for the fuel supply system of a fuel-injected internal combustion engine provided with a correcting device, which changes the adjusting path and/or the full load position of the fuel quantity adjusting member of the fuel metering device in dependence on operational values the operation of which is made visible by means of a signal indicator. The adjusting member of the correcting device is provided with opposed walls either of which is arranged to cooperate with a stop which is connected to the electrical circuit of the signal indicator, with the stop being mounted in the governor housing in such a manner that it is electrically insulated therefrom.
Abstract: A pneumatic-hydraulic brake system for vehicles having at least one pressure modulator used to supply a group of hydraulic wheel cylinders in combination with an anti-locking device. The pressure modulator is included in both the pneumatic and the hydraulic circuits of the system. For effecting anti-locking pressure modulation, at least one multiple-position air valve is included in the pneumatic circuit and at least one hydraulic valve in the hydraulic circuit.
Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing liquid or pasty substances to gelatin capsules and the like, in particular for dispensing pharmaceutical products thereto. In order to maintain the substance to be dispensed in relative motion to prevent deleterious thickening, the apparatus includes a reciprocating dispensing control plunger which periodically enters a capsule or container to be filled. If no container is present and no dispensing is to take place, the control plunger retreats into a position wherein a separate metering piston continues to transport the material but returns it to a storage container via a conrol channel in the control plunger.
Abstract: A testing apparatus for an anti-lock control system for vehicle brakes for testing the correct functioning of the control system. In one embodiment, the apparatus establishes a predetermined speed and compares this predetermined speed to the speed sensed by the sensing portion of the control system. When the predetermined speed is exceeded by the moving vehicle a testing apparatus is triggered which initiates a test procedure for the control system. The apparatus includes a switching device to insure that a test procedure is initiated only after the vehicle ignition switch is actuated. In another embodiment, the apparatus employs a temperature sensor and/or the control system output for initiating a test procedure, but not during a deceleration of the vehicle. In a further variant, two threshold levels are established, each of which must be encountered before the test procedure is initiated.

Abstract: A regulating apparatus is proposed for a fuel supply system for a mixture-compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engine, which serves to enrich the fuel-air mixture furnished to the engine when it is started cold and while it warms up. The regulating apparatus comprises a pressure-regulating valve which sets the fuel pressure, the closing force of which on the movable valve part is influenced by a temperature-dependent element by means of a relay device and a regulating spring coaxially correlated therewith. Accordingly in a predetermined temperature range, the temperature-dependent element and the movable valve part are connected only by the regulating spring.

Abstract: An infrared imaging device enabling operation in the panning mode with a very high sensitivity and the facility of viewing a desired part of the observed field. A pyroelectric imaging tube is shifted relative to the observed scene and the infrared image on the target is read in a line by line scan the direction of the line being perpendicular to that in which the image is shifted. The shift takes place at a speed corresponding to a whole number R of line intervals in the course of one image frame scan comprising n=KR lines, with the result that each point is examined K times in the course of K successive frame periods; the video signal is accordingly processed to perform K successive integrations.

Abstract: A lock assembly for restraining a drive shaft of a fuel injection pump in a definite rotary position that corresponds to the initial point of fuel injection for an internal combustion engine. The lock assembly which can be removed after installation of the pump in a motor vehicle includes an elastic deformable element that has a portion thereof that is rigidly connected adjacent to one end wall of the pump housing and further includes another portion that is secured to an element driven by the drive shaft.
