Abstract: An automatic flight control apparatus for aircraft having the desired attitude of the aircraft in a balanced relation to the action speed of the aircraft and utilizing this reference signal to generate a difference signal which corresponds to the difference between the reference signal and a signal representing the actual attitude of the aircraft; this latter signal then is used as one of the control parameters. The difference signal is fed to a control system through a limiter having a limiting range to avoid feeding excessively large difference signals into the control system and thus preventing unstable flight.

Abstract: A fuel supply unit is proposed wherein the pump rotor and electromotor armature are mounted independently of one another on a common fixed axis. A pin which engages in a corresponding recess in the pump rotor for entrainment purpose is provided on the motor armature.
Abstract: A fuel injection system in which the valve control pulses are generated on the basis of information regarding the engine rpm and the combustion air flow rate and in which the air flow rate is measured by a baffle plate and a position sensor. When the throttle is abruptly closed, the inertia of the air and of the baffle plate prevents a precise measurement and an overly lean fuel mixture may be admitted. Accordingly, the apparatus of the invention is sensitive to the rate of change of the signal from the baffle plate sensor and when that rate is too great, additional current is fed to a multiplying circuit, thereby extending the control pulse length and increasing the amount of fuel fed to the engine.
Abstract: An improved hydraulic brake booster including a booster cylinder and a dual-circuit main cylinder connected together. The brake booster includes a booster piston which defines a storage pressure chamber and the dual-circuit main cylinder includes a double piston which defines a primary pressure chamber. A separating wall is provided which is connected to both the booster cylinder and the dual-circuit main cylinder and separates the storage pressure chamber from the primary pressure chamber.
Abstract: An apparatus for straining liquid fibrous suspensions to remove contaminants and foreign objects has a stationary screen basket located in a housing. Purging blades rotate in the interior of the screen basket in close proximity to the interior walls of the screen and create pressure pulses, causing trapped contaminants and foreign objects to migrate toward an outlet, whereas the purified suspension, including the useful fibers, passes through the screens.The average path traversed in the apparatus by contaminants and foreign objects is shortened due to the disposition of an intermediate chamber, at mid-height of the screen basket, through which contaminants may also be eliminated from the apparatus. The purging blades are appropriately extended to sweep the walls of this intermediate chamber. The shortened average path reduces the probability that contaminants will pass through the screen on their way to the outlet.
Abstract: In a shock strut for an aircraft landing gear having inner and outer elongated telescoping tubes and a primary orifice selected and designed to attenuate the load level to a certain design condition which is compatible with the aircraft's structural threshold up to a certain overload sink speed, a load attenuating valve which opens when the design velocity is exceeded. The load attenuating valve includes secondary orifices held closed by a tension fuse which ruptures and opens the orifices in parallel to the primary orifice for additional flow, thus keeping the pressure drop across the orifices to an acceptable level so as to permit full stroking of the strut. In this way, as much energy as possible is absorbed before the load is transmitted to the aircraft on failure.
Abstract: The double-acting measuring piston of this invention is slidably positioned in a cylinder and is provided with oppositely disposed mirror image sealing members which encompass a supporting body and are retained in abutment therewith by spaced flanges. The sealing members have foil lip portions that form between them, the cylinder wall and the supporting body an annular pressure chamber. The mirror image sealing members have oppositely disposed surface areas that are subjected to chambers containing a medium pulsating at slight pressure differences.
Abstract: An electronic fuel injection system generates primary fuel control pulses in synchronism with the crankshaft rotation. The width of these control pulses is adjusted according to the indications of various engine transducers and determines the amount of fuel to be injected. The system also includes an air flow rate transducer whose output signal is monitored by a comparator. When the air flow rate signal undergoes very rapid changes, the comparator triggers a secondary pulse generator which supplies additional fuel injection control pulses to admit more fuel. The occurrence of the secondary pulses is temporally independent of the primary pulses.
Abstract: A control system for an X-ray apparatus in which the selected values of tube voltage, tube current and exposure time are used to compute optimized values of the current-time product which is compared with stored values of permissible tube performance to produce tube settings and initiate tube cut-off. The transmission of control data is performed digitally while the computing is performed in an analog computer.
Abstract: An externally ignited four cycle internal combustion engine equipped with an inlet valve and an outlet valve, both valves being positioned on one side of the cylinder. A swirl (or vortex) chamber is provided within the cylinder head, the height of the swirl chamber being substantially less than its maximum diameter. The inlet and outlet valve discs lie substantially in a same plane. A channel-like recess in the cylinder head, which creates a guide channel when the piston is in its upper dead center position, terminates approximately tangentially in the swirl chamber.
Abstract: A fuel injection pump is driven by the engine via a drive shaft that also rotates a cam ring. The cam ring reciprocates radial pistons which deliver fuel under high pressure to fuel lines located around an axially sliding distribution member. The amount of fuel delivered is determined in part by the timing of the opening of a pressure relief channel which is opened by a sliding annular ring surrounding the distribution member. The position of this ring and hence the fuel quantity delivered is adjusted by the equilibrium between spring forces and fluid pressure from a regulating valve. A separate pressure control valve adjusts the pressure gradient across an arbitrarily settable throttle which also affects the regulating pressure. Separate mechanisms adjust an engine starting excess quantity and a fuel bypass which is thermostatically controlled to maintain the pump operating temperature within prescribed limits.
Abstract: A method of, manufacturing refrigerating units (equipment), such as refrigerating and refrigerated showcases, store fixtures and the like, including forming walls, partitions and/or panels having a layer of plastic foam formed in situ. Standard modular elements are produced, each constituting a portion of a wall, bottom or upper portion of the unit to be constructed. Each element is provided with respective stepwise tiers formed along its two longer edges and along its two shorter edges with respective outwardly extending protuberances formed from the layer of plastic foam. The modular elements are assembled along their longer edges, at least some of the shorter edges also being in contact. Units made by the method are described.
Abstract: The process and apparatus disclosed herein is concerned with adjusting the composition of a combustible mixture supplied to an internal combustion engine by adding a supplementary quantity of air to the suction tube thereof. As disclosed the supplementary substance quantity is controlled as a dependent function of the fuel fed to the internal combustion engine and the fuel fed is gauged by way of the gas pressure in the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine.

Abstract: An apparatus for moving a wheeled vehicle which can be positioned, controlled and operated by a single individual. The apparatus operates on one wheel of the wheeled vehicle and moves the vehicle by rotating the one wheel. The apparatus includes a drive which engages both the wheel and the surface along which the vehicle is moved and an idler roller which also engages the wheel. The idler roller in its engagement with the wheel produces a reaction force for the apparatus which reacts the driving torque input to the drive. The idler roller produces the essential effect needed to accomplish the one-man operation noted above.
Abstract: The induction tube of an internal combustion engine is provided with an air flow measuring device which may be part of a carburetor and with a normal throttle valve, settable arbitrarily from the outside. A bypass channel conducts air around one or both of these elements and contains a flow restricting device. The induction tube further includes an air flow throttling mechanism for establishing a definite pressure drop across the inlet and terminus of the bypass to insure air flow therethrough even at full throttle and low rpm when the engine vacuum is low. The air flow throttling mechanism may be a pivoted baffle plate or a slide which enters the induction tube and partially blocks the air flow therethrough and which is moved by differential pressures in the induction tube. The slide retracts from the induction tube at full throttle and at high engine speed.

Abstract: A blow-molding apparatus for producing a flask-like container with a handle has two mold halves which surround a thermoplastic parison for subsequent inflation. Each of the mold halves has a guide channel through which one of a variety of tools may be admitted as complementary pairs. These tools include plungers for defining a region in the parison to serve as the hole of the handle, punches for compressing the plastic material in that same region and, finally, a knock-out mechanism, consisting of at least a ram for knocking out the cooled material so as to form the opening in the container which defines the handle.
